It sucks because he's a good inspiring person. It's needed because he's not a good manager. I wish him all the best.

Given a choice would you take finishing fifth in the league. Champions league spot.

Or 17th but Europa winners and champions league spot.

The latter but that doesn't mean anything. One outcome being preferable doesn't mean the coaching has been good or that there are signs of it improving in the future. We have played terrible football for a year and a half under this coach, it has progressively got worse the longer he has been in charge.

He won the europa league by playing the opposite of 'his' football and by throwing everything else away to do it. If we were playing well before throwing everything else away I'd understand the argument but we weren't. The question is if you think winning against AZ, Bodo, Frankfurt and United should supersede a 48% win rate, 17th place, never beating Woolwich or chelsea, losing to 2/3 of the bottom three at home and a steady decline in form since his first 10 games. It shouldn't.

Bad managers have had cup runs and will continue to have cup runs. Some of you would have given Di Matteo a lifetime contract, Ramos another year and Ten Haag a knighthood. This guy was done here, you keep coaches on because the coaching is good, not because vibes and moments.

The Europa every time. But we can't do the same this year. This is a one off season. It's been abject for 90% of it. I would finish 17th every year if a trophy was guaranteed. But it's not.
This to me is the point.. A lot of the people who wanted the manager to stay seem to be arguing from the viewpoint that he had the recipe for further trophies and they were going to keep rolling.. Which is not something that I can have any agreement with at all.. The Europa League cup run was an unrepeatable freak occurence. An unrepeatable freak occurence that I'm delirious about.. But unrepeatable nonetheless.. The thing that was repeatable, was the league form.. Because we've seen it for 15 months.

All the stats, plaudits and criticisms of Ange are now in the past. Time to look forward and back the new man and hope and pray we see the style of football that has become synonymous with our great club.

COYS!

Perfectly put.

Literally pointless to consider an impossible scenario.
He has been sacked.
I am wondering what the "experts" think his successor will achieve,
And I've just told you. You're happy to sit there and sneer from the sidelines at others with a different opinion, I answered your question. I think it's fair as you seem to be on the opposite side to me to answer mine. It's not a difficult one. What did you expect Ange to deliver this season?

Fair enough, I sat through all the home games and Villa/Liverpool away cup games, and most of it was pretty grim.
I could hardly watch the second half of the final, but all that was forgotten at the final whistle and the weeks after.
Not that I have personal experience, but I imagine it;'s a bit like giving birth - once the baby arrives, all the pain is forgotten! :)
Well I can't give you any insight into the pain of child birth either Mrs P, but I hear you regards the pain being forgotten and I think now its time to forget the stats, plaudits and criticism of Ange and focus on looking forward with whoever comes in.

Have followed Tottenham my whole life. Was enraged on this forum when we sacked Jose just before a cup final despite a lot of people on here saying it was a good idea then, was fuming when we got rid of Pochettino too early. Levy consistently has made awful decisions on sacking managers at key times and now he's done it again.

Not that I should expect you to have a great idea about the tactical plans of managers, seeing you've been doing formation graphics with Romero or Foyth in centre midfield for the past few years.
Wouldn't the world be as weird as me if managers used players flexibly in the modern game.

Shocking.

Oh, and can you tell that to Pep, who has a history of using CBs as FBs and MFs.

And Maresca who's used Caicedo at RB.

And your loverboy Ange who played Werner up front and has used Sarr at LB.

And slot who closed out the his title campaign with Diaz at 9.

And everyone who managed Ruud Gullit, who was used in nearly every position going in his career.

I’m totally confused by people calling his sacking “spursy”.

I’m fine with people disagreeing with the move but that term literally makes no sense in this context.

People use it for everything they don't like related to spurs.

I'm pretty sure it was originally used for when we would get unlucky, then it was used to refer to bottling and not being able to handle pressure.

Now it just means anything I guess.

I'm so annoyed his exit wasn't managed better. Now everyone is pissed - especially the dressing room. I think Frank is an excellent coach and will do well but Levy's fucked him early doors already. Not good enough.
Whilst I agree with your first 2 paragraphs, it's the one above that I don't.

There was, IMO, no other way they could have handled it after winning the EL. We've waited 17 years for that glory, you at least give the fanbase and the team the time to enjoy and bask in that, allow that euphoria to run its course first.

I posted before that you don't make rational decisions when your emotions are at their height, nor do you smash them at their height by sacking the man too soon.

I'm as disappointed as anyone that it hasn't worked out for him but, when you analyse cold reality, the Football we have been playing for the VAST majority of this season has been dire.

I accept that the ridiculous amount of injuries has played a very big part in this but, even with the players we had remaining, we're still better than 22 losses and we should still expect some sort of structure from a squad that works together daily.

This is what disappointed and, quite frankly, shocked me this season. You can't do plan A better without those first choice players, so you keep the same attacking mindset, but from a structure that won't expose their replacements. How do you execute a plan better when you're missing half of your main tools?

As much as I like the guy, there was zero evidence that he could adapt what his was doing in accordance with what he had to work with. Seriously, who expects Ben Davies to play a high line in the way VDV does? As a result, I just can't see how it can be argued that he'd suddenly and magically change this.

In my view, the board has made the right decision for the Club, and that's all I'm interested in. I think they've made it at the right time too. Long enough to allow the euphoria to subside, but soon enough that we can get a replacement in and concentrate on the window.

I think they've handled this decision as well as anyone could or would have done elsewhere.
