Spoken like a true Ange cultist tbh
Thing is, I'm not.

I think last season was out Fergie FA Cup moment.

You follow us, you know the real context of why the team struggle din the league.

Injuries and squad underinvestment.

Sure we have spent quite a bit, but the quality of our recruitment has been poor.

Nevertheless, we won a major trophy.

This meant the ball was in Levy's court. The pressure was on him to replace Son. To bring in quality and experience to further develop the youth.

He didn't like that investment prospect, so he binned Ange. With it, he binned any prospect if glory for a long time to come.

There's no good time to part company with a manager - and it maybe that Ange had both a big personality and had won with the players the Europa League which is something all the players will have on their CV as a major event, and for some that will be their biggest achievement,

Whilst our league form, and acknowledging the effect of injuries such as rarely having our best two CB's playing together, meant a parting of the ways was probably inevitable, its clear from social media posts that a large number of the players are sending him messages of thanks and good will. And not just the ones we might have expected such as Romero - Van de Ven, Danso (who only joined in January so who only worked with Ange for 6 months), Richarlison, Bergvall, Porro and Solanke which I have seen, and I understand from other sites that Bentancur, Kulusevski and Johnson, and no doubt others. It reflects well on them all that the squad had developed a sense of camaraderie and togetherness which will serve us well next season if the new manager can leverage it.

So I'm hoping whoever comes in as manager has a big personality to lift the players and impress them with his tactics and training. That way we can progress

Several other players I've spotted on their social media giving fulsome praise and thanks to Ange including Vicario and Son (below as an illustration)

Nothing to say the players are unhappy but clearly a new manager will need to win them over with his tactics, training, professionalism and personality etc

How can we pay more dearly than finishing 17th? You think the next manager will get us relegated? Ange obviously had a good rapport with the players, the tried their hardest to follow his instructions even when they were incredibly stupid. Most players would have downed tools and got him sacked way back in November. That is special no doubt, he is definitely a good man manager.

But that's only a small part of the game. A manager also needs to have football intelligence, knowledge and humility and Ange doesn't have those things. That 3-2 game against Everton away is the defining one of Ange's tenure for me. A horrendously arrogant set-up from the first whistle that showed no respect for the opponent or the basic principles of the game. Despite changing to a team with 5 defenders he refused to actually play defensively, telling Gray to just leave the RCB spot and go roaming around upfield along with everyone else. We go 3-0 down before HT. Second half he adjusts and we threaten to take a draw. You can say we showed character but the lack of football acumen makes it very difficult to win with character alone. That's what Ange is, a character. That's not enough at the top level.
Good post but don’t waste your time. You can’t reason with an idiot!

It’s funny you say that with certainty as there is absolutely no way you could know that.
Yes there is. I have in my possession a certain ancient relic which grants me the gift of 100% hindsight across the many possibilities of the known multiverse.

In this multiverse there were approximately 1, 287, 384 trillion possibilities for how this Tottenham Hotspur season would play out and in not a single one of these possibilities did Tottenham win the Europa League after sacking Ange Postecoglou in season.

And, trust me, a lot of weird shit went down in these possibilities. There's even one multiverse where you, Milesy and an unknown person in a large chicken costume engage in consensual tantric sex on the halfway line of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before being sacrificed to great God Klaathu in an attempt to win the God's favour before a match against Chelsea (didn't work - we still lost 1-3 😢)

Yeah exactly, they’re hardly going to post anything negative as I’m sure they liked him, but most of them aren’t daft enough to know 38 points from 38 games isn’t reason enough for change.

Hardly grounds for the pitchfork rebellion Sausage Meat predicted! 😂

This is the thing , people are expecting us to compete on all fronts but we are signing prospects , regardless of the manager the squad needs experience

I think you've nailed the problem with Levy and ENIC, and I fully agree. Can't wait for him to leave.

I just don't think Ange has the ability or potential to achieve any more at Spurs. He's broadly been dreadful and for me the Europa win doesn't mask or absolve him of that. He doesn't have the tools to achieve more glory at Spurs, in my opinion.

In summary, I'm fully Levy out, Ange out, Milesy out.

The Ange Outers don't see that though.

Could it be that the excitement if achieving things is too much for them? Perhaps they took a shine to Spurs when we were bang average in the pre-Redknapp days. Maybe they yearn for that.

Have one decent player, like a Ginola, and a load of dross elsewhere. Rarely get into Europe. Keep it simple. Nothing too hopeful

Maybe that's what is going on here. Maybe that is the clinical explanation for these Ange Outers who seeming like to harm our own best interests.

I'm trying to understand it, Fatty, I'm trying. I really am

Tbf - has Sonny ever given anything but fulsome praise for anyone? Need to look at Madders, Solanke, Richy - the players that haven’t quite had the favouritism that others have. ‘Damned with faint praise’, I suspect.

Look for the words of the clever players: Kane did a runner, Dier politely talks about tactics, Hjojberg went/ was pushed. Who on the current team would you trust with the intelligence to win a game of noughts-and-crosses, let alone know good from bad? Spence, maybe?; VdV?; Davies?; Mason (done a runner/ pushed)? Berg - possibly? Kulu? It’s slim pickings as we have a team of selfish athletes (as they have to be) and - with the best will in the world they’re not always the sharpest at seeing the big picture as they’ve been closeted their whole life.

History will put him as a fun cross-between Ramos’ awful performances but a cup and Ardiles’ ridiculous strategy.

Agreed.

But I cannot remember any player expressing thanks and good wishes to Conte when he left - when Conte left we were 4th or 5th but in terms of play, looking dreadful and I think the wheels were off the wagon even though his match management experience meant results were not too bad.

fyi, both Solanke and Richarlison came out last night with statements on social media every bit like Son in terms of thanks etc.

I would guess at least half the squad so far have come out with similar

Conte publicly threw every player under the bus in that press conference before he left , unlikely he was going to get too many thank you messages , players are currently coming off a European cup win will be buzzing and only remember the good times of the last 2 weeks . The same players that never turned up for a league game 6 months proper to that

Conte clearly made it quite an intense place to work, I’d imagine. And our millionaires don’t want to be working for their money.

Having looked at a few snippets from the players’ social media it looks a bit like they liked him - and who doesn’t like to win a trophy? Not a single one has gone - ‘yeh, we played shit all season’ (or similar) so maybe there’s a little deliberate misremembering?

We probably need to be expecting more of the players once they have a coach who can coach.

I feel like Frank is such a sidewards step, will not be Inspired by his appointment whatsoever.

I think sacking Ange was the correct decision now that the dust has settled but if you’re going to just bring in someone like Frank then I don’t see how he is going to push us on.
