I would say Ange was making wine out of water, but in reality he was making liquid gold out of running shit.

I'm not sure how you can be a Tottenham supporter and not realise the situation we were in, especially after selling Kane and watching Son slowly age.

If there was anyone to build around, it was Ange...

Then we sacked him 🤦😭

The club now is an empty vessel. No soul left... no identity, nobody that cares.

How much money have they thrown at an Italian manager in the hope he's like Ange? Why on earth didn't we just use some clever media spins, admit fault and get Ange back.

Chickens have well and truly come home to roost.

If we accept the proposition that the main, as opposed to only, problem is the players and not the managers, then logic requires that we accept, where one of the managers oversaw a Europa League win, that the manager in question overachieved.

Okay I got ya, It's the poor squad that is to blame for the 22 loses last season but the Europa League win is down to the manager.


Like you've been saying all along, it's not because of the manager it's because of the players, apart from the trophy of course.

I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make and I think that's in large part because YOU have zero fucking idea of the point you're trying to make. 🤷‍♂️

But for the avoidance of doubt, what we should have done last season (and especially in 2024) is BUY BETTER PLAYERS.

Maybe a better manager would have helped but we're on our third since Postecoglou and none of it seems to be helping?

You've been stating at different times in the thread it wasn't the manager(s) to blame, the squad isn't good enough. I mean come on man, you've said it plenty of times.

My point is I'm countering your point by stating if the bad results aren't due to the manager then the manager can't really be given any credit for the victories.

I can't think how to make the point any simpler.

Obviously Postecoglou fared better with the same group of players because a) we won a lovely Trophy and b) we weren't RELEGATED.

Postecolgou overachieved. Frank and everyone else has not.

No - it became a bad decision because the problem wasn't the "manager" it was a) injuries and b) a mediocre, imbalanced squad low on genuine quality.

How much evidence do people need to accept the very very obvious truth?

To me there’s two issues.

1) Ange for however flawed he was tactically - had buy in from his players. Frank never did and that issue was allowed to spiral because of Vinai’s refusal to see what was obvious for months.

2) Franks outlook of the game exacerbated what were already alarming weaknesses. He accepted Pahlinha and Gallagher instead of a passing CM. He didn’t demand a Johnson replacement.

Ange knew the faults of this squad... Would he have ever let Brennan go and not be replaced? No chance...

He was expressing the need for more experience - he would have realised we needed a much bigger squad.

Question is - why on earth were so many of our fanbase celebrating his sacking? The one man at the club who ACTUALLY understood football.

Managed a 5th placed finish and got Spurs back into the Champions League. Seems like a massive over-achievement.

Losing Kane without a replacement was the first nail in the coffin.
Losing Son without a replacement was the 2nd nail in the coffin.

It is understandable to not have been able to find a player anywhere near Kane's calibre. Spurs had just finished 8th and were a mess. It was clear no top player would want to come to Spurs.

But, not getting a proper goal scorer to replace Son, and then selling the only other player capable of scoring goals consistently was suicide.
 
We had a new manager bounce and some decent luck in Anges first 10 games but for the next 66 games we were mainly dog crap , losses at home to Ipswich and Leicester last year , not being able to defend set pieces , arguing with fans on a few occasions . Having to change his whole philosophy to win the Europa . Let’s not pretend he was prime Poch .

He shouldn't have been sacked since he won a trophy. He should have the credit and given the a new slate to start the season 3. You can't rock the foundation entirely and left everyone shocked after coming from such euphoria of winning a silverware. Sacking Frank made sacking Ange compounding another mistake as well because it mans Ange could be sacked if he wasn't performing in season 3. Yet he wasn't even given the chance!
