It's obvious, judging from the EL matches, that Ange is able to coach a team that can win mid and low table clubs.
But, that wasn't his aim. He wanted to build a team in such a way that the final product could be able to compete for the top. That's why he insisted on his ideas even with players that were underqualified (at the time, at least). He wanted to build a team character.
That wasn't so obvious from last years League performance.

You don't win big things by losing at home to Ipswich and Leicester.

It would be nice if we all stopped pretending that Ange being unable to muster a win against anyone but Southampton for the final third of his domestic time here was part of some masterplan to be the greatest side ever.

There's this thing called "free agency". You can choose to "click" on a Thread topic or not.

If you're a Spurs fan who preferred it when we were a club who won trophies and stayed in the Premier League then you probably might like to click on the thread of a former manager who achieved these things.

If, instead, remembering when we used to win things and stay in the Premier league makes you angry and bitter then I'd gently suggest you CHOOSE NOT to "click" on this thread.

It really is that easy 🤷‍♂️
As I suspected then, completely unnecessary. Enjoy your squabble

Ange himself stated this when he was hired. Maybe he was just preparing his excuses after him being sacked. Who knows? (although I suspect who do).

Well there is only two pages to go to the 5,000 mark.

As it might happen overnight whilst I'm in dreamland, I just want to put out a big shout out for The Extra Mile(sey) The Extra Mile(sey) , Deuterz Deuterz , GinolasLeftFoot GinolasLeftFoot , CJJ CJJ and the many other similar contributers.

Without your "pearls of wisdom about the Fat Aussie Cunt", we wouldn't have been able to get here.

But we should remember..."To Dare is to DO!"

Keep up the good work.

10K here we come!

I did.

Please tell me, what part of building a team that was so inept that it lost at home to relegated Ipswich and Leicester, that couldn't beat anybody domestically aside from Southampton in the final third of the season, was an ingenious step on the way to a magnificent finished article?
All of it. If I was Ange I wouldn't like to temporarily stop (and delay) a project for the sake of some actually indifferent games. Or, do you think that finishing 12th would make any actual difference?

Tell me why that mob upstairs didn't back him and buy the players he wanted?
He said from day one, that it would take 3 to 4 seasons to get the players he wanted playing the way he wanted.
Why haven't we got 2 or 3 competent players for every position like the top clubs have?

Sigh...

No they fucking didn't. In what way was finishing 17th in the league thriving? The football was fucking boring too, it was chaotic in the sense we couldn't defend for shit, and I'm sure it was entertaining for many, but certainly not for Spurs fans ffs.

Also how tf are you drawing any conclusions on whether or not the players like and respect RDZ after a matter of a couple of weeks and one match?? There's plenty of smoke (though little solid evidence) around them not having a great deal of time for Frank, but even Tudor there's nothing but a bunch of fanfic to indicate they didn't like or respect him.

Many of our players full stop regressed under Ange!
Yet we won a major trophy?

We should have stuck with Ange

Glad you can finally accept it now The Extra Mile(sey) The Extra Mile(sey) ? You have a lot of blood on your hands on here from last season. Now's your chance to apologise for your part to play and accept that you were completely and utterly wrong. Despite many on here, yours truly pleading with you to see the bigger picture.

The stage is yours...

Well Messi and Ronaldo did it pretty routinely, Son and Kane at their peak with us were getting some pretty insane stats though not in that ballpark.

I'm not suggesting that BJ should be anywhere near those guys, just that I'm not about to fall off my chair over him managing 14 goals in all comps whilst offering less than nothing in every other respect.

And anybody seriously trying to point to him as a success story for Ange's coaching should probably double check how he has performed this season, both here and Palace.

He was the sole beneficiary of a very flawed gameplan, not a coaching victory.

Cauliflowers fluffy and cabbages green
Strawberries are sweeter than any I've seen
Beetroots purple and onions white
All grow steadily day and night
The apples are ripe, the plums are red
The broadbeans are sleepin' in a blankety bed
Blackberries are juicy and rhubards are sour
Marrows are fattening hour by hour
Gooseberries hairy and lettuces fat
Radishes round and runner beans flat
The apples are ripe, the plums are red
The broadbeans are sleepin' in a blankety bed
Orangey carrots and turnips cream
Reddening tomatoes that used to be green
Brown potatoes in little heaps
Down in the darkness where the celery sleeps
The apples are ripe, the plums are red
The broadbeans are sleepin' in a blankety bed

No doughnuts here, Ange won’t be interested.

Yes, playing tactics that were the direct antithesis of "Angeball".

Where they were playing his tactics, we couldn't buy a win, we looked toothless, were unquestionably poor at the back, and utterly boring.

So how exactly did they thrive in his tactics?
But, but I thought Ange was incapable of tactics and too stubborn to change his style of play??

He has said many times, ofc he changes his tactic in one off games. What idiot wouldn't.

You guys just really look to beat him with anything you can. You know only people fully on the spectrum take words said to absolute verbatim...

It’s been years since anyone we’ve heard of put up 50 g/a a season. Plenty of shit to sling at BJ and Ange without resorting to hyperbole.

As for the rest of the argument, the fact he put up numbers under Ange that he’s failed to do elsewhere would suggest either a specific game plan, or coaching. Both would be at the behest of the manager. The fact he’s failed to perform since just solidifies that argument.

What I would say though is that he’s the only player I could really name that didn’t regress during Ange’s time with us.

Salah got 29 goals and 18 assists last season. Three shy of the 50 then, apologies for the wild hyperbole...

That is an output worth crowing about.

I'd argue personally, that when I'm assessing if a player has progressed, the upturn needs to be not only demonstrable, but lasting. If the output dissipates the moment a player is put in a different system, or moves elsewhere, then rather than having progressed, they were just fortunate to benefit from a very specific system.

Aside from his goal output, how was his technique? How was his pressing? His tackling? His dribbling? His passing? His creativity? His crossing?

If the player "progressed", then I'd expect many, or at least some of those things, to have improved. As it stands, he had one good attribute, and a system was devised to maximise that. When he left here he was exactly the same player as when he joined.
