Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

And this point is why the Porro negotiating is so head scratching to me. There's a clear need. There is a price (whether Spurs agree with that or not belongs in the transfer thread), and yet there is so much hesitation I read an article saying Chelsea are now interested.

A club with a football director must know what Conte's system requires, and yet we hesitate over the fee. A fee which at face value doesn't seem overly outlandish (ofc you're a prem club the seller will make you pay more).
But do you spend 40m on a wingback for a manager who won't be here in 6 months time? If he won't extend his contract and we bring in a coach who wants to play with a back four you're stuck with 40m Porro who probably makes a poor rb.

Here’s the thing with Conte, he came into this season with basically a 100% approval rating among our fans. There’s no questions about his past record like an AVB. And despite the fact that our summer window does look worse by the day, he’s been backed pretty substantially in his time here. Basically everyone believed this would work.

The fact that he’s in some hot water now is down solely to his own brutal coaching performance this season.

Unlike every other coaching debate I can remember at Spurs, the debate is shockingly agendaless. We all liked this guy and thought he was the one would bring us to the heights we’ve craved and what we’re responding to now is solely the fact that performances, team selection, and management are all shockingly poor.
Absolutely 100% agree. Spurs spent a whacking £172m last summer, (more than Woolwich by the way). If he chose the players he’s messed up, if he didn’t then he’s in the same situation as many others across the football world and he is expected as an elite coach to get a tune out of the staff. Cooper at Forest found himself in that situation and after a bedding-in period right now he’s proving to be a better coach then Conte.

If we arent going to give him the players he needs who are very expensive we might as well pack it in.

Couldnt agree more. Our gutless players have downed tools and the fact that they think conte wont be here is part of the reason

No it’s wasn’t. Dembele was a mess, he was on the bench when Poch came in with Mason and Bentaleb picking up the tab. Rose was terrible, Walker and Eriksen inconsistent. Verts and Kane looked good.

You can go back through this forum, during the bed of AVB’s reign many fans thought the squad was shit and had to be rebuilt entirely.

At the time Poch arrived, sure. They were horribly mismanaged and the dressing room was fucking toxic. Full of cunts like Adebaykr and Kaboul.

But the potential was always there. Dembele showed how fucking good he was in his first season for us. Two seasons before Poch arrived.

Again, Rose's potential was there, even from Redknapp days at left back where he got back to back MOTM performances against Liverpool (last time we won at Anfield) and City at the Etihad. He then went and got player of the year at Sunderland before returning to a Spurs team is turmoil under
AVB and Sherwood.

Walker and Eriksen may have been inconsistent, just like the team was. But there talent was quite evident. As mentioned, Walker had already played for a Spurs team that finished top four before Poch arrived and won PFA YPOTY in the process. Eriksen was a shining light during the dark AVB and Sherwood days but again, a hope.

It wasn't a shit squad. It was a squad low on confidence that just needed to actually be coached.

Ffs, at times last season people were laughing at Woolwich's team saying its shit. Xhaka is rubbish, Ben White was a flop for a big price, Ramsdale had been relegated two years on the bounce etc etc etc. Now look at the same players.... Coached. Playing with confidence.... These are the SAME players.

I really want him to succeed but it’s obvious he won’t. I didn’t love Poch as much as most spurs fans. I found him pretty infuriating but I think he needs to come back now. The club and fans need the positivity his appointment would bring. Everyone at the games is so fed up. Nobody is enjoying it.

If Conte can’t change then he deserves what’s coming to him

I think that’s exactly what’s going on.

But an ambitious team would sack Conte now, get their man in and start recruiting his players this window. Give him the next six months to bed in so we’re ready for next season.

Yes and that is what a brilliant manager does. Poch was that for a period, he got players like Rose playing like the devil himself. He took the squad to its very highest level and then we didn’t add a few more extra bits of quality and it ended like Klopp’s current Liverpool team but unlike Klopp without the CL.

This club has no fucking idea how to properly back a manager, it never has done. We could have backed Poch properly, we didn’t. We hire cheque book managers like Jose and Conte but without the big cheque book, we are a fucking mess.

I keep hearing that we’re not going to give him the players he needs/wants. He spent £172m last summer to improve a team that finished 4th. Where is the lack of support in that level of spending?

I’m not an ENIC fan but let’s be fair this season is not (entirely) their fault.

Yeah it's true, Conte has been poor in my opinion this season.

I can imagine Levy is sitting there thinking why should I give him another 150 million or more?
Royal was bought for decent money and isn't worth it at all. We now want another RWB for more money and despite us all saying hes great, I can imagine levy is more hesitant this time around.

Add to the fact Conte isn't in the best form with us, we're in a real stand off now.

I think Conte goes one way or another this season
