Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I am not happy with the situation and with the players at his disposition, Conte should have done better. And it's frustrating to see how weak Spurs are in defense, particularly knowing that Conte has built a reputation of have strong defensive teams...
But, remember, at the end of last season most Gooner fans - including Piers Morgan, and prominent players - wanted Arteta sacked. And Klopp was also wanted out after his 1st season at Liverpool.
It takes time to build up a successful team in the EPL.

We have had 22 years practice, for how much longer are the excuses going to continue.
Top stadium, expensive tickets with a piss poor team and leadership in return, I don't want to commit to paying that do you?

What? That must be a typo surely.
No its crazy but he is right. Sissoko was loved and respected in that dressing room. He sort of tied the French and English lads together he was a bit of a father figure , Dechamp kept him around the French squad for a similar reason. He stopped heads dropping. I think we have start again and I think Dier Kane Loris are a problem. We need a new set of leaders.

On leadership and heart I also read that regards Loris in this area that Steve Mandanda the number three French GK plays a big part in keeping chins up when things go bad. So clearly the French cleverly recognise a deficit there as well.

He was backed. We still have a better team and squad. They play better than us. For sure
That's the tricky part about transfers.

You can throw as much money at a manager as you like. But it is on his table to work with the players he has, build on their strenghts and put together a system that fits them.

Howe has responded splendidly to the players that he has been given.

It was Sissoko who stepped in when Son and Hugo had their halftime row during the Amazon season wasn't it?

I definitely think that we have a lack of father figures/leaders in the dressing room right now. During Poch and Jose we had not only Moussa, but Vertongen, Llorente and Dembele. Dier is said to have such attributes as well (everyone listens to him, he's able to communicate with everyone etc). But you can't just have one of those guys. You need a few in a team. That's why there's always talk about "senior counsils" at clubs like Chelsea when they hit their slumps.

And not to come off as a hater, but people say that Kane has leadership ability but I honestly don't see it.

There's definitely an element of this at play.

Ventrone was the good cop to Conte's bad cop. And every player was said to love him like a grandfather. Now Ventrone is dead and Conte doesn't have that good cop next to him. Vibes are probably very much off backstage.

Jose's best years was when he had his one assistant that was his good cop, that left during his United spell. And Ferguson also had some assistants that acted as the good cop to his bad cop routine.
Not saying this is wrong but Conte has a massive team, he has half a dozen people round him, not including Mason, who should be good cops. One is his own brother.

Ventrone was fitness and nutrition, so I don't know how involved he got with tactics and performance evaluation anyway

We would be better off with Eddie Howe as things stands. Seems crazy but I really think so

We would have been. No doubt as in he would not have been holding a gun or looking elsewhere. And on a 3 or 4 year contract.

But unlike Newcastle we were understandably looking at a different model. Bizarrely going forward Conte is more likely a Newcastle fit as money won't be an object.

I think we may have gone all out for Howe, Potter before he went rogue and maybe one or two others if it were not for Kane and how it may have been received. I'm not knocking Kane for that as opposed to offering a possible reason why it was Conte and not anyone else

I love the personality of Conte but I’m not sure his footballing principles really work at the top end of the PL. 3 at the back is a perfectly functional system and it’s a good thing to have up your sleeve but no other top team plays with that system as religiously as Conte. Our problems in midfield are so obvious and our wing backs so mediocre that persisting with 343 to this extent doesn’t make sense.

It is so clear that the players do not enjoy this system anymore, they are always tentative and never seem willing to move the ball quickly when the game is 0-0. Opponents do not have to suffer when they play us.

When it went tits up at the beginning of his Chelsea reign he quickly changed system, he has to do it now. Let’s sign a new RB who has some pace and attacking nous and we can at least go to a back 4 with Sess/Davies at LB and use Perisic as a forward instead. Our defence is not good enough to keep going with the back 3.

Key to back 4 is a new CB not a new RB.

Again like you, I’m not hating, but I don’t see it either. I’ll never forget when he did a speech before a game in the All or Nothing documentary and it seemed fairly tame.

I also thought it was quite telling during the World Cup seeing the England players looking to Jordan Henderson more than Harry

Does look like losing to Preston ( which is likely given our tendency for such things ) and Milan to exit the Champions League will be the end for Conte. A bit of a shame really, but actually after today, I don’t much give a shit about the status of a multi millionaire who got schooled by Pep’s fluffer Arteta.

Chris Houghton for me. I’m done with the pretence. Get a football man in. Get a Spurs man in and if we are going to be 5-8th forever more at least let’s see some bloody tactical nous and a bit of football.
Love the guy but Forest mate of mine said he was awful manager. He played ultra-defensive, conservative football and had an terrible record there
