Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

4th place would not be a ‘miracle’ from Conte. Chavs and Dippers are utter gash this season.

With an ‘elite manager’ on £15 million a year, we have 1 point from 21 against the big sides this season - Woolwich (x2), Citeh, Dippers, Newcastle and Man U.

Any manager who’s held out as one of the best in the world, should be ashamed of a statistic like that. All the more so as we were rubbish for practically all 7 of those games.

We have weaknesses in the team, most notably defensively but we have a lot of quality players and we have massively underperformed all season.
I think we still have to remember that this is Contes first full season at Spurs. Rome wasn't built in a day. Took Klopp years to build a Pl and CL winning squad. Isn’t it funny that all these top quality managers can win titles elsewhere but somehow can only achieve top 6 at most with Spurs?

It’s almost as if top 6 is reflected in the way we do business and ambition (or lack of) in the transfer market.

You say we are underperforming. But we are 5th. So you really think this squad should be doing better than that? If we are underperforming in 5th, where should we be? title contenders? Seriously? Because from the quality of players that we have, only a very few handful would get in the top 4 teams. Very few.

We are exactly where we should be. If not OVERACHIEVING. And if Conte gets us Champions League football again next season (and all the CL money for Lord and saviour Levy) it’ll be another huge achievement with these bunch of ragtags

No point reading forward from that.

Conte record stay was 3 years in one club. And that was for the club where he spent majority of his playing career. He signed for us for 1,5 seasons.

Klopp before Liverpool had stayed 7 years with Mainz and another 7 with Dortmund.

No point of comparing dick to a thumb.

I don't think anyone is suggesting it's brilliant though.

The way I look at things is had we lost last night the knifes would have been out and everyone would be slagging the manager and team off. We beat a team which is having a really good season and has taken points at home from a lot of teams.

Last night was one of our better performances, we looked much more solid than in recent weeks.

I do agree our form against the top teams isn't where it should be but that's where we need to improve the defence and goalkeeper which can only be done over time.

I wouldn't go as far to saying the team has no spirit.

The long ball football isn't for everyone but nor is passing the ball around for the sake of passing the ball around.

Don't get me wrong - I do not fetish Pepesque / Barcaesque tiki-taka passing football.
I also believe that football games can be won with possession under 50%.
I believe football games can be won with lower number of passes than opposition.

But what bothers me is that currently our team cannot make fairly easy passes.
Almost everyone need to take multiple touches and lot of time.
And so many times players receiving pass were just standing and waiting for the ball to arrive to them. During that Fulham players came and put their body between ball and Spurs player. It is so very passive and it is against "Football 101".

Regarding defense and GK - I agree. This is the reality.
But in real world you just cant bluntly think of some ideal and push on. This is the reality and manager should have ability to make adjustments. It does no favors to our defense that in front of our box, there is sooooooo much room for opposition to run into, pass and also take shots. This is down to tactics and how squad is set up.

I also agree that away win against current season Fulham is decent result.
But let's be realistic here - we won due to absolute brilliance of Kane, and in first 35 minutes, Fulham had much better chances. First 45 finished with xG of 0.84 vs 0.37.
With such first halves we will continue to lose games against any adequate side. Goons scored 2 in first half. So did Toon and Dippers. It is not even close to being good enough. And in all honesty - nothing has improved during the season. Yesterdays game was like carbon copy of Wolves game on 20.08.2022 - dull game, lot of technical mistakes, but brilliance of Harry Kane brought home 3 points. We need more than praying for a miracle every time.

In the last 13 seasons, we have had 7 finishes in Top 4, 3 finishes in 5th, 2 finishes in 6th and a low of 7th in 2019/20. Forgive me if I’m a bit underwhelmed or sound ungrateful about the magnitude of the achievement of finishing 4th in a season where Chavs and Dippers are so off it.

Everyone getting giddy after a 1 nil scrape against Fulham? I'm unconvinced. Conte doesn't suit us and I don't see where we are heading under him.

Problems we have are ENIC centred, yes, and choice of manager for me is one element.

Yes we won tonight but can someone seriously tell me that was anything short of eye bleedingly poor?
How many games had we lost before tonight? We were hardly going to come out and look like peak Barca, Last night was about working hard and getting a result, no matter how ugly it might have been, the question is can we use this as a stepping stone and try to salvage something this season!?

Fattynomates Fattynomates Agreed. I'm not debating the fact that the 3 points was the priority, but I'm not expecting peak Barcelona. I was merely hoping for some semblance of control over the game/the ability for us to put together some patterns of play and pass the ball better. I can't say I saw any of that. 2nd half was improved versus the 1st half in terms of performance, mind you.

Otherwise, there was one moment of quality from Harry that got us the win. Their xG surpassed ours and we rode our luck.

Delighted we won but we will lose more often that not playing as we did last night and that's the concern I have. Fingers crossed performances do improve going forwards.

You can’t just blindly look at the result and say it was a good performance. We should know that from nuno.

2nd half was pretty good. We looked closer to getting a 2nd than conceding.

1st half was absolutely horrible. We had no answers for their press and looked hopeless. Being up 1-0 at half was all thanks to Kane and luck. No way can we consistently repeat that result with that performance. And that’s why we’ve only won 11 of 21 league games and have lost 7.

I don’t know why any squad or reserve player would be motivated to play for conte. He just plays the same players over and over. Sarr not even on the bench is a joke. We all know Gil wouldn’t have got time if he was healthy, even though he’s 10x what son is right now.

Ive seen him play since his Fulham days

Oh goodie... You're the first person to stick their neck out and say that they have.......

- Can he actually defend...?
- Does he have the discipline to operate within the given parameters of a given position?
- Is he tactically aware?
- Is he diligent enough to fully commit to the necessary work at both ends of the pitch? ....Week in and week out or just in big games?

I ask because - conspiracies aside - there must be something that prevents Conte from playing him and when he made his cameo vs Forest he was extremely erratic; particularly in terms of positioning......
I do agree with you and what i have seen of him since youth is he has grown that much with all the above attributes
His loan from Boro to Forrest definitely put him on the map and he grew in confidence playing week in week out

Conte seems to take an age to TRUST younger players same could be said for Bryan Gil but he has impressed when given the opportunity after the world cup break and i think many fans expected Spence to feature in the 2nd half of the season more regulary hes not even making the matchday squads now.

Yes Conte works with him every day and sees where there at but this weekends fixture in the FA Cup would be perfect to show us these young guns and what we have to look forward to the next couple of seasons.

Lloris also spilled the ball twice from shots, just with nobody around. He did make a couple of blinding saves to be fair, especially late on but he's still a fucking calamity.

At instinctive shot stopping he’s still one of the best

It’s the basics that he struggles with

I don't know how any could watch the match last night, watch our back 5 trying to play out from the back and think "yeah we have the skill Conte needs to push on." Not only can our defenders not defend, but aside from Romero and Perisic, there is no one capable of playing nice one-touch and move football back there.

To compound things, Bentancur is obviously not up to full speed with really exposes PEH's lack of talent.

Mr mood swing lifts his mood, goes up to the fans and gives it the big one and we are all supposed to get excited by it.

Leave me out, I want to see some better football on the pitch, save the badge kissing for the rubes.

For some reason he has trouble bringing the best out of our players. Which he was really good at before.

With the exception of Kulu / Kane / Romero~ everyone has been really below standards this year.
