I guess this contract length reflects concerns on both sides 1) Spurs - Absolutely no point giving him longer if he walks off halfway through a contract as he's done in all of his previous jobs. 2) Conte - Absolutely no point signing longer if funds for signings don't materialise
Reports say that contract has a massive salary + bonuses. It also has options for another year.
Only risk for Spurs would be if Conte is approached by Real Madrid/Man City/PSG and he walks away to them, the comp we would receive would be low and not prohibitive for one of those Clubs to payout.
EDIT: Also it's not uncommon for managers that arrive midway through the season to be given short contracts eg Tuchel at Chavs was an 18mnth contract.

I think some of them like Drinkwater were bought in over his head, part of the reason he left.

But, now, with Antonio Conte coming in to replace Nuno, the excuses have been stripped away and if the players fail again then, this time, there can be no debate: it will be on them.
There are no doubts over his relevance or his ability to get his teams over the line and there can certainly be no questioning Conte’s pedigree.
He’s made the best even better and won everywhere he’s been.
Just ask Romelu Lukaku, who became a world-class striker under Conte; or Cesc Fabregas, who admitted the Italian took his game to a place he did not believe it could go; or Leonardo Bonucci, who credits Conte with changing the path of his career. This list goes on.
