Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I've told it before .... but people still seem to forget that this was the kind of football Conte also played at Chelski, Inter and Juve; ie.e. counter-attacking football.
It was this kind of football that brought Chelksi success under both Mourinho and Conte. And Conte won't change his style to please the fans - as long as he believes this is the way to win games he will keep on playing his system. For him, it's all about winning and not the style.
Spurs are, so far, 3rd in the EPL....
Never watched his Juve side, but his Chavs side were brutally efficient and scored a lot of goals. We bear absolutely no comparison.

I will back Conte all the way through, but the football this season has been terrible. I am well aware that his teams aren’t going to entertain, if I remember correctly his title winning Chelsea team was often described as lucky when they’d win games. Anyway, we saw last season that we could play good football in that run that got us into the Champions League.

However, this season’s been a torture in terms of football style. So predictable, sideways, backwards, with the individual fuck-up from some of our players. It’s a deja-vu after 5 minutes of every game, you know what’s going to happen. I don’t think we played well for 90 minutes not even once this season so far. I understand the circumstances are exceptional, with the World Cup and congested matches, but this is worrying because it feels like the previous two managers where their sacking started with a similar pattern.

The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

It’s not a choice between turgid shit to try and limp into fourth or attractive but fragile football that sees us brushed aside.

We played our best ever football (PL era) with a team of youngsters that pressed teams remorselessly. And we were dirty cunts that fouled anyone as soon as they crossed the half way line.
Yep. Redknapp and Poch did 8 full seasons between them. Top 4 six times, 5th twice, playing mostly great, easy on the eye football. I dont want to change manager mid season for a 4th year running and we rightly wont but if this is it for the rest of the season football wise i'd like a change for next season whether we get top 4 or not. If things improve and we start to play as we did last spring then thats a different matter.

Over the last 2 games conte has shown that (in the second half and chasing the game) he can get us pinning teams back and playing higher up the pitch. Imo it's stupid continuing to start up so defensively when our defence is so shit. Our attackers are our strong point get them closer to other teams goals and causing problems and taking pressure off of our brittle back line.

I didn't talk about efficiency but just stated the fact that Juve & Chelski were not a joy to watch under Conte - despite of winning titles. And Conte is all about winning.
But Chelski stopped being "brutally efficient" (they didn't even qualify for the CL after the 2017-18 season, ending 7 points below Spurs) - which lead to Conte getting the sack.

Am I the only one who finds watching Man City play incredibly boring. They have won the Premier League 4 times in the last 5 years have world class players and a world class manager but when I watch them it’s like watching paint dry. I watched them play Leicester today and Leicester didn’t get out there half for the first 20 mins. Give the ball away you don’t get it back. Whereas watching Liverpool v Leeds tonight is really entertaining. End to end game and both teams having a go. With Conte, the performances have been dire at times BUT surely he deserves more time. I think things are improving and we have two crucial players out at the moment. I think we have good times ahead with him if he doesn’t leave and is given the money and time to achieve.

You might not be the only one but surely you're in a pretty small minority. Since the season started its felt like all the major sports pundits have shamelessly wagged about major boners over Haaland doing anything.

City can be boring from a neutral POV because of exactly what you say. The neutral fan wants exciting, flowing end-to-end football. City play a style where they just squeeze the life out of you like a python until inevitable defeat.

I guarantee you City fans don’t think their style is boring at all because they have the ball 70% of the time and unlock defenses consistently. If Spurs were playing the same style with the same results, we’d all be talking about how we’re such a joy to watch every week.

Not having inevitable defeat narrative.

So far:

Lost to a faltering Dippers.
Drew v BVB
Drew v Copenhagen
Drew v Villa.
Drew v Barca
Drew v Newcastle
The post I quoted mentioned winning 4 out of the last 5 leagues so it’s not all about this year. In those 5 seasons, they have a W% of 77%.

Now, it’s all because of sports washing which takes away the shine for me but the results show that their system suffocates you to great effect.

Video at the top, I had to write his quotes because the article didn't include them, pretty telling though, reading between the lines and in the context of the question asked (about players that got subbed on) this was his response.

Conte - "I think this experience this season, we have to learn a lot, because I hope next season that if we play in both the PL and CL, we need to try with all our possibility to improve the squad with quality and also in the numerical aspect.

Otherwise you risk to play with the same players every game this is not possible because the performance of this player start to go down and today I decided, before an important game in the CL on Thursday to make six changes, to give rest to the players who play every single game and I think this is the secret to have an important squad if we want to play the PL and CL in a decent way, otherwise you lose points because the PL is very very difficult, the intensity in this game today, we lost a lot of energy, mental energy, physical energy.

Pretty evident he wants more quality in the first team but also more quality on the bench for rotation because the players we have that started the game today, he doesn't trust to do the job, he just feels forced to play them so he can rest the others for the CL game.

What he said at the end about

"My players know me very well and for sure the team that wants to give up, is not my kind of team, we have to fight until the end and try to give out best, sometimes you can lose but they know, in every game they have to give me their best because that's what I do for them and also today (but NOT also today) they showed me many circumstances that they believe what we are doing and that we will never ever give up, never.

I think that's pretty telling, essentially saying that the players who came on second half believe in what he is doing but the players he started the game with showed that they are not fighting in the same way which is what many of us highlighted here.

Some of these players are players from other managers and from past squads and it shows and not in a good way, we need a rebuild of players who are all in on Conte and his system and our fans more importantly need to STOP blaming the manager and get behind him and hope he gets backed in the Jan and Summer windows.

Conte will bring us success imo but we need to get behind him and realise that some of these players simply are not good enough.
