Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What narrative, the one where when we beat City we weren't in total freefall like we were by the time he was sacked? We lost 3-0 the last time Jose went up against them. Zagreb just pumped us 3-0 as well because Jose was totally done at this point and his 'tactics' weren't working, cup tie or not.

The idea that massive freefall would've halted for a one off game is baseless.

The narrative that we beat City twice under Mourinho and had a better chance of beating them in the cup final with him in charge maybe?

Not even sure what you're going on about here or what this has anything to do with the initial post though...

So if he's not signing and being announced until tomorrow, can we still expect him to take training?

Not really sure how all the timing works.

Ah yes fairly comfortably.

1st win - City red card in the 60th minute at 0-0. We scored 2 goals shortly after and won 2-0. Fairly comfortable win as we were only outshot 3-19 even though they had 10 men for a third of the game.

2nd win - Scored with our only 2 shots on target. Final shot total was 4-22.

Both of these were home games. Let's be honest, we got lucky.

The more recent game we lost 3-0 away to City and that was a generous scoreline. Outshot 15-7 but going from memory I believe almost all of those shots were once we were down 3-0.

It's possible Mourinho could have won the cup final. But based on his recent performances, it was not probable at all. Trying to say otherwise is not brave at all because no one can disprove you. He was shit and should have been gone weeks earlier.

That 2nd game, I had a lifelong City fan texting me saying how they were out of ideas, having pot shots from range and could play all day and not score
Towards the end they looked fucked and we missed chanced to increase the scoreline.

The first game was ages ago now but I remember it being a decent match.

You're saying the decision to sack Mourinho before a final was wrong, I'm saying the only wrong thing was not sacking the utter prick earlier.

And you can cite the two times we beat City all you like, they were when the team was in some kind of form, and not when we were losing every single game, including to farmers in Europe. Jose was totally done and we weren't turning it on for a cup final. City took us apart in the last game we played vs them.

Maybe keeping him gave us a slightly higher chance, but nothing more. We've certainly made far, far worse decisions than slightly worsening our chances of winning a league cup final.

I don’t agree. I was never really a Jose fan, although when he started with us he was very charming and convivial, & I thought he’d got his mojo back.
Sacking him before a cup final and installing a caretaker rookie was a horrible decision to make and by all accounts it was done so as not to invoke any trophy bonus. He should have taken that game.
Penny wise, pound foolish. Always the same with Levy. How much has his Nuno adventure cost us, & how far has it set back the season, when we could have had Conte in the summer had we met his demands? Or, as I said earlier, did Conte refuse us at that point because he was expecting better offers from bigger, more ambitious clubs?

The thing is, we didn't sack him when we should, so one more game to try and bring a cup home wouldn't have hurt.

This is the right manager at the right time for us he will take no shit from anyone.
Many other candidates would be ruined by this club but Conte won't be he has the mentality to kick this club on, and maybe if he can sort the team out by Christmas then January could see reinforcements to kick on.

I honestly think we lose that final regardless. The atmosphere in the build up was dour, our results terrible. Maybe he finds his mojo back for a one off game but it's a huge if, and personally all the faith I had in the man had been totally eroded by that point, so I wasn't bothered by it.

Decisions like hiring Nuno have been far more damaging imo. That was pure incompetence.

It’s true we defended valiantly but there was certainly some fortune involved. I remember early in one game, de Bruyne struck a bullet heading for the top corner from about 8 yards out that hit Jesus who was in an offside position.

Those games definitely could have gone the other way.

What a bloody signing , this will Brie the best signing in decades. I though conte was cheesed off with us in June and would never sign. It must be grating with the manc’s, stuck with Ole by the looks of it!!

Bold is certainly true. I dunno, maybe I was just so done with him that honestly a league cup final was secondary to just wanting him gone. It felt like the whole thing had gone full Jose by that point, I honestly didn't feel he deserved to lead the team out. Bit spiteful perhaps, but that's the extent to which I disliked that man managing Spurs.

Nothing but a toxic bully who should never have been hired, same with Nuno except I actually do think he's a decent man who was let down by the club, just not a good enough manager. Hopefully Conte contends well with Levy's bullshit.

Who here has finally got their mojo back a little with Spurs ? Make no mistake there’s still major problems at this club, but this Conte is a massive coup. A fabulous manager, one of the best in the world and we have appointed him. Considering we are currently a Europa conference team, we done extremely well to convince him. I finally feel slightly excited with Spurs for the 1st time in 3 years. Welcome Conte!!!!!! COYS!!!
If it happens then it would certainly rouse us from apathy. For his faults, it would also give credit to Paratici - who I'm sure needed to be at the club to get Conte even somewhat interested.

It could all end in disaster but I think Conte is exactly what this squad needs as a firm kick up the backside. I hope for several useless bastards to be shipped out in January.
