Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Very excited to see what Conte can do next season, after January and summer signings and a full pre-season of training them.

I think we will be a frustrating team to watch until then, too many sub-standard players trying to implement his system. Fortunately he is a good enough coach that he can probably get the team playing to more than the sum of its parts. Two or three good signings in January and Conte might be able to get us 4th place.

Psst. Don't forget 9 months+ of Goji Berries, Black rice and Coconut water. By then...

my only concern is does conte (like Poch) only have one way of playing ?
is it all down to being fit and playing 3-5-2 (although we appear more 3-4-1-2, or 3-4-3)
That one way of playing has won him silverware everywhere he has managed, so we should embrace it….This guy is a Mourinho level of manager, only Conte is at his peak and not on the decline…..There is no excuses left at this club, the time has come to end the trophy drought….
Conte is a short term manager, he comes in, gets an impact, fine tunes his squad and then wins, that’s been his DNA…..Two transfer Windows is his norm, so this time next year we will see how that all developed behind the scenes…..

He has already had a huge effect. It looks like at the very least we will beat the teams we are supposed to beat.

One thing he will look to improve is composure and playing out from the back. Too often we panic. I know it is difficult with no elite passer in midfield - in fact the whole team apart from Kane. It wasn't helped by Tanganga being in RWB yesterday; what a disaster he is there. Royal has a lot of potential but panics too much. I don't know how Conte develops that but hopefully he will.

Also, I noticed our fantastic supporters getting on the players' back when we kept the ball in defence too long. We may need to get used to passing backwards.

Antonio Conte admits turning around Tottenham's fortunes is the 'biggest challenge' of his career as he says the club has been 'slipping'... but he insists diving into the January transfer market is not the solution

Antonio Conte admits the task of reviving this fading Tottenham team is the biggest challenge of his coaching career.

After a month in charge, Conte has revealed he wants to strip Spurs back and 'start again' with new foundations, plans not helped by the injury to Cristian Romero, which could rule the defender out until February.

'It is my biggest challenge but I'm not scared,' said the 52-year-old Italian, ahead of tonight's game against Brentford, the first of 10 fixtures in a month.

'The club has been slipping. When I was in Chelsea, Tottenham was very competitive and a really strong team. To lose important players, or because some became old and then to have a change of generation, I think Tottenham now is paying for this.

'We have to create, start again. We have to create a solid base and build to come back and fight for something important as in the past. We must be honest. But it doesn't mean we don't want to think great. We need to think great. But, in this moment, we have to know we are here.'

Conte refused to cast the January transfer window as a possible solution to his problems.

'I'm not a manager who arrives and says, "I want this and this and this" or "I want top, top, top". I didn't spend a lot of money with Inter, with Chelsea, with Juventus. I'm a person who believes in my work.

'I know that to improve and be competitive you also need quality but we need a little time, [and] also have a vision. The only thing I can assure a club is my knowledge, my experience, my mentality and my honesty.

'We need time and a vision but to do it like this is impossible,' added Conte, clicking his fingers for effect. 'But I think I'm the right person for this project.'

Tottenham are resigned to weeks without Romero who suffered hamstring damage while on international duty with Argentina last month.

'The news is not positive, not good,' said Conte. 'The injury is serious. It will take time to see him again. It will be next year. January, February, I don't know but, for sure, in 2021, he has finished playing. It is a shame because he is an important player.'

Meanwhile, former Manchester City star Yaya Toure, 38, is spending time at Tottenham's training ground, working with academy players as he studies for his UEFA A coaching licence.

He improves playing out from the back through precise tactics and constant repetition on the training ground. "Lookie here, Hobby, when Emerson has the ball in this quadrant of the field, you move to this quadrant, unless it is occupied by an opposition player, in which case you move to this quadrant, and if that is not available, you move to this quadrant..." etc. etc.

I'd like us to improve how we start games, I'm sure Conte is working on it. Apart from the first game in Europe, we seem to make quite slow starts in terms of team performance. I'm worried that will cost us against a good opponent.

I love these little videos of Conte on the touch line, it’s great to see his passion and enthusiasm for the game, but I always find myself looking at the crowds behind him.
I know this is only a 30 section snapshot of the match, but it’s similar to other little snippets shown when watching on TV where crowd are doing absolutely fuck all. Where’s the passion from the fans? The chants and the sing songs, the Mexican waves? More and more lately it’s seems (from watching on tv) that some areas of the stadium are really quite dull.

This has been a terrible appointment. Signs there for everyone to see but most are blinkered at our new, new, new dawn. At least under Mou and Nuno (hell, even Mason) we actually particpated in games. This joker comes in and we aren't even participating in those anymore. I'm tired Wobbie.

Not pretty? Don’t care. Signs are he has at least got us winning games we should be winning. That will do for now.
I don’t think this team can challenge for top 6. But those are structural problems with the squad and will take time to fix.
Bloody good start if u ask me.
