Yes, I'm dead serious

Look at his play this entire season. First 3 months, he was one of the worst players on our team. Since then, he's been on and off. A great game, followed by a a couple stinkers.

Having 5 great games in a season doesn't make you an elite player by any stretch of the imagination.

Same thing as last year... started the season on fire during the first dozen games, followed by average/mediocre performances the rest of the season, despite getting goals.
Yes, the bloke on his way to being his club and country’s leading scorer, possibly the league as well.

I realise you’re on a wind up but I’m a sucker for responding to idiots.

Can someone put forward a genuine case why we are persisting with 5 defenders given we get run over in midfield all the time and also still concede loads of goals with 5 defenders?

Surely going to 4 and an extra midfielder makes us less predictable and allows Kane to stay up.

Kane spent more time outside the box than in it today. They knew Kane was going to drop deep. Except they cut out any passing options for Son by having their line deeper.
100%! Keep saying it he just plods out the same tactics. At least mix it up a bit.! The main thing is we don’t have enough quality CBs to play 3 and we have shit WBs. Yet persists with this and our defensive record is still crap. I said our current squad on balance prbly has better forwards than defenders albeit they are not great. However would still make sense to play more of our attacking players than play more crap defenders. Conte just doesn’t want to try it.

Our WBs are either equally shit as FB's or worse.

Sessegnon is a shit FB, Doherty is a shit FB, Reggie is no better as a FB or a WB and Royal just flat out sucks. Moving to a back 4 doesn't improve that area at all.

Dier, Sanchez, Davies are all much worse in a back 2 than a back 3. Romero probably could play in either but has spent most of his club career in a back 3. So not really sure why moving to a back 3 improve us at all.

As for putting more of our attacking players who do you think gets into the team if we move to a back 4? It would most likely have to be a 4-3-3 which would mean playing another MFer. Maybe we move Kulu back and put Moura in but that doesn't make us any better.

Yesterday showed some positives, even in a loss. We played decent football and didn't fold when we went behind and kept fighting. But the lack of a proper pressing system is obvious and we end up just sitting back when we don't have the ball.

I'm not expecting us to press like prime Liverpool or like under Poch. But Conte needs to put together a pressing system of some sort. Spurs can play defensive minded football, but we cannot play passive. We need to be aggressive when defending and on the front foot.

I’m not saying per se that it will improve us but at least try something different. Kane up top with 2 from son, berg or Lucas either side and kulu behind them and bent/skipp/PEH in a two. It may or may not work but at least we’d have a bit more pace up front. Plus reg was ok last season in a back 4. Royal was bought as fb rightly or wrongly but I think his prbly better defensively than as an attacking WB. Play two of Romero Sanchez or dier in CB. Sanchez is not great but at least he has pace and if coached properly may become a more solid defender. Surely conte and work on improving some of these players. To me he just sees his preferred 11 including playing davies as one of the cbs. His generally shit and can hide in a 3. We need some pace and power in the defence and davies offers neither. Plus his not exactly got great height for CB.

I guess I am not sure why would we switch it up if we don't think it will work better. I am not a fan of doing things just because.

Especially if. much like Klopp and Pep did in their first seasons, Conte is using this time to get his system drilled into players and seeing who can work and who can't.

If I thought it would improve things I would be all for the change but I think it is much more likely to have us playing worse.

Every top manager has his style. Guardiola has one, Klopp has one and Conte has one. They are all predictable in the way they play and set up.

He is using this season with us to weed out all the players that aren’t capable of playing his vision of football. The ones that aren’t will be shipped out and replaced with players that can.

It’s going to take at least 2 years for him to clean this mess up. We need to be patient.
Well he's only here for another season so how's that going to work? He won't even be here next season. Mutual agreement and gone in the summer.

I agree.

I think some people are just eager to see Poch (or the style of Poch) come back and are clinging on to the past hoping he (or someone else) can come and replicate what he did before with fast paced pressing football.

He won't because we don't have the team for it and even if we did, he never won a thing with that system and he had a lot better players than we currently have so what would be the point?

People should stop obsessing over the past and focus on the present, we need to back Conte, give him the players he wants and trust that he will be the world class manager he has proven to be throughout his career so far.

The other thing is, if we are stupid enough to let Conte walk or we sack him off, then what?

We spent months looking for a manager and ended up with Nuno, who the fuck is realistically coming here and improving us? Who would even want the job? Losing Conte without giving him a chance to build a team would set this club back for a long time imo.

This, this this.

If our glorious leader doesn’t back our mad Italian, Everton’s situation is within our immediate future.

And that scares the shit out of me.

Conte's system demands high performing players who are disciplined and do not squander chances. We play in a defensive shape and attempt to hit on the counter quickly.

Against united, we could have done more; with Son having a mare!

24' - Son with poor cross, fails to put it in a position for Kane to attack
43' - Kane intercepts the ball (in an offside position) with Doherty in perfect scoring position
46' - Kulu pulls the ball back to the perfect position on the penalty spot; and nobody is there. Arguably Kane should have taken up this position
47' - Excellent cross from Kulu. For some reason; Son is ball watching and makes zero effort to attack the ball. Of course, Son is not a great header of the ball and it is not his style.
48' - Fantasy ball by PEH. Son doesn't go that extra effort to get the ball and gives up on it. He could have thrown his body at it and tried.
60' - Son misses a sitter; and a chance that strikers MUST be putting away.

All very good but.... We scored two at old Trafford and produced a number of other good chances, the problem ain't at that end.. We conceded three shockers! Dier not getting out to block, wrong man for the corner and reggi playing people onside....

What team has Conte managed where he didn’t need big money? And what teams has he managed where he didn’t complain about spending?

Inter he didn’t need big spending, Chelsea he spent along the lines of what they always do.

Chelsea and Inter were more about how they spent than how much. Also don’t remember him complaining about spending at Juve but he could have.

Trying something different doesn't mean to change the system.
And for your insight he did change the system and we do play with 4 at the back against Chelsea, and we still lost, and people like you still come here and complain and were asking why he decide to play with a 4, instead of 3 in the back.
So there is no win-win situation for the manager, when we lost, you can always find something to moan about.

No elite manager will change his view of the game or play different system or so, than that, that he is known for, and he know the best.

Do Guardiola or Klop change their system and style ? Hell no !!!
Don't expect Conte to do so then.
