...is this a good thing, or a bad thing..?
Hard to tell without a thumbs up/thumbs down smiley to accompany the graphic!

It means no teams are really creating many clear goalscoring chances against us and mostly having to take shots from the edge of the box.

Now, we've played Southampton and Wolves within those three games. So probably need a bigger sample size.

Good thing

Means we're currently the best in the league at not allowing teams to get near our goal and are reduced to taking pot shots whilst we are the best in the league at getting off shots near the opponents goal.

Obviously small sample size with 3 matches but quite encouraging nonetheless

Shock horror.

VAR finds Tuchel guilty and Conte largely innocent.

It's absolutely the correct decision, but I'm astonished the FA didn't bottle it.

Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel deemed ‘largely culpable’ for clash with Conte

  • Tuchel continued to grip Conte’s hand prompting a melee
  • German fined £35,000 and given one-match touchline ban

Chelsea’s manager, Thomas Tuchel, was “largely culpable” for his clash with his Tottenham counterpart, Antonio Conte, with his behaviour deemed “highly provocative”, the Football Association’s independent regulatory commission has ruled.

Both men admitted improper conduct charges after a flashpoint sparked by a handshake at the end of the 2-2 Premier League draw at Stamford Bridge on 14 August.

Tuchel, who was fined £35,000 and given a one-match touchline ban, said he continued to grip Conte’s hand because he felt the Italian had been disrespectful by not looking at him, prompting a melee involving players from both clubs.

Explaining its sanctioning decisions, the commission said the German’s reaction was “simply not justifiable”.

“It was quite clearly TT [Tuchel] who instigated the confrontation between himself and AC [Conte] by choosing to grip AC’s hand and jolt him back after AC had passed him by,” read the commission’s findings. “Had TT not gripped AC’s hand the confrontation between the two and the subsequent melee that followed would not have occurred.

“TT gripping AC’s hand for the reason he gave (AC did not look him in the eye) was simply not justifiable; cursory handshakes are a common occurrence at the end of highly charged football matches and there exists no obligation for one person to look the other in the eye whilst shaking hands.

“TT telling AC to look him in the eyes whilst gripping his hand and not allowing AC to move away was a highly provocative act.”

Conte was fined £15,000 but avoided a touchline ban. He and Tuchel squared up to each other several times during the heated London derby, before both were shown red cards by Anthony Taylor after the full-time scuffle.

Conte said he had wished to quickly shake hands with Tuchel to avoid “any further unease”.

“Due to his very firm grip my arm jarred causing me to be pulled backwards,” Conte said in his letter to the FA. “I was both surprised and unhappy that such handshake caused me to be pulled back with such physical force.

“I did not overreact to this provocation and with the circumstances was proud of how I handled myself. Had I made any reaction then I understand the situation would have been much worse.”

The commission largely agreed with Conte’s assessment of the incident. “AC did react aggressively to TT’s actions but the commission did not consider him to have hugely overreacted given the circumstances,” it said.

“Whilst certain aspects of AC’s behaviour could be considered as being improper, indeed he admitted as much, the commission considered TT to be largely culpable for the incident and unanimously felt that this ought to be clearly and definitively reflected in the level of sanction imposed.”

Tuchel will serve his touchline ban on Saturday during the home game against Leicester.

Now that's true ConteBall.

So not only have we scored more goals than any other team this calendar year, we're also possibly the hardest team to actually score against.

And we're 'desperate' for an elite centre back and a creative midfielder apparently.
That’s not what that means. It means we are the hardest team to score against per shot. If we give up 40 shots and man city gives up 5, our xGA will still be higher.

A quick look at the stats shows we are 16th in the league in shots conceded at 15.3 per game. However, as your stat shows these are low percentage shots, which is the trade off Conte is making. It’s noteworthy that these are still shots because if we continue to give up large quantities of shots, the opposition will score a few worldies this year and we will just have to deal with it.

Also xGA doesn’t take into account the goalkeeper and Lloris has performed below average in these stats in recent seasons. Alison is by far the highest.

Also worth noting that Forest is conceding 20+ shots per game which is last in the league and 4 more than any other club. It’ s a small sample size so far but something to keep an eye on this Sunday.

Players need to enjoy themselves on the pitch though surely?

I guess the enjoyment comes from winning if you're a professional. Maybe that's why players who have left have left when you look who is going.
I think, as Kulu said, that you should probably interpret it more as a behaviour you have to keep on the pitch in terms of not thinking about showboating or dilly-dallying but going straight for the kill.

One more thing to note (because my other post was getting long), is that city/Woolwich/liverpool/Chelsea are top 4 in both shots for AND conceded. United is also 5th in shots for but lower in conceded.

We are just 10th in shots for (13/game) and 16th in shots against.

However we have a much better xGD than Chelsea Liverpool and United (City are first and well ahead of Woolwich).

This means our Big 6 competitors are taking large quantities of low probability shots and conceding very few shots but they are higher quality chances.

Whereas we are the complete opposite. Once again, small sample size, but I found this interesting.
