Players need to enjoy themselves on the pitch though surely?

I guess the enjoyment comes from winning if you're a professional. Maybe that's why players who have left have left when you look who is going.

Enjoy the process... Enjoy the outcomes.... But first and foremost you have a job to do.

...One can still express themselves within the confines of a tactical/systemic game, but if "enjoying" one's self (free-styling on the pitch) betrays the tactics/system then it risks undermining the efforts of the cohesive whole.

Conte talking about rotation during the upcoming run: almost everyone's going to get a crack.

Antonio Conte has stressed he will have no choice but to rest Harry Kane during the next few weeks due to Tottenham Hotspur’s congested fixture list.

Tottenham have to navigate seven games in 21 days, starting with Sunday’s game at Nottingham Forest. They will then face West Ham, Fulham, Manchester City and two Champions League fixtures before taking on Leicester City on September 17.

And Conte has said even Kane will have to be rotated in the next three weeks in order to prevent injury and fatigue. Conte said:

“I repeat, we are talking about a situation that we have to start to face — on Sunday we have to play seven games every three days. “After every game, I will have to check the situation with all of the players for tiredness and injuries. And one player will not be able to play in all seven games — it is impossible.

“I am not a magician! I cannot forecast this, but we go game by game to make the best decisions for the team and for the players.”

Richarlison, Tottenham’s £60 million signing from Everton, is one of the players who can fill in for Kane when needed and Conte has said the Brazilian and the club’s other summer recruits are raring to go after starting the season on the bench.

He added: “It’s positive for me to have players early because we can work with the new players and bring these players into our ideas.

“Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic — they are ready to go into the team and to play. We will do it because it would be crazy to think we can play the same team every game in 23 days (21 days) with the same team.”

Good.

We have a strong squad now and that needs to be used.

Definitely shouldn’t be running any player, Kane included, into the ground.

Yup agree rotation isn’t required and make better use of the 5 subs rule with earlier subs to give players rest.
Concern I have is conte last season said he likes big gaps between games to prepare for next match. Hopefully his pre season preparations means he doesn’t need to do too much work between games except some tactical work based on the oppo. When he said it did kind of explain why his record in Europe is not as good as it should or expect it to be.

Even our creative players don’t really freestyle per se…. Could argue perhaps Lucas does but Kulu etc have end product and make good decisions eg not beating an extra man, not flicking around a corner

Perhaps this is where we can be innovative and rather than putting Kane or Son on the bench vs West Ham, give one a full rest and take them out completely. 2 days recovery, 4 days hard conditioning and 1 days rest before the next game.

Benching or subbing is helpful with risk of overplaying but not as good as a full 7 day training block (to recover, get rid of niggles/bruises and then condition)

Maybe not now but in a few weeks and certainly when League Cup starts

There will be wholesale changes for the League Cup game anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if Forest themselves field a completely different starting XI to the team we face tomorrow

Agree. I think we’ll see the likes of Spence and Richarlison get starts in the league cup game (although I think Rich will start before then too)

I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to resting Kane for Premier League games.
A club of our size should be capable of doing so though.

As prolific and outstanding as he's been for us, imagine his impact if he'd been used properly over the years with some serious competition for his place! Frightening just thinking about it.

He may have even played more games having not missed a couple of half seasons through injury and would certainly have had fewer games where he looked fatigued and failed to make an impact.

I know my opinion is a controversial one, but one of our biggest mistakes of the last decade was only being prepared to invest peanuts in a so called back up for Kane, rather than serious competition for Kane......and has probably been the difference between Kane and Spurs winning trophies and winning nothing.

That tired old line "who's gonna come and keep the bench warm behind Harry" used to rile me up so much. I thought it demeaning and belittling to our football club tbh.

Hopefully, the signing of Richarlison is a major step forward in righting the wrongs of the past. I'm certainly excited by it.

Maybe we've only played 3 matches and Kane hasn't needed resting...

Do you think we paid £60m for shits and giggles?

I don't think we paid £60,000,000 to replace Kane with fucking Richarlison of all players, no.

We brought in someone with Premier League experience, a starting Brazilian international who fits the profile of someone Conte wanted and probably made clear and Levy didn't want to disappoint the best manager he's ever had the privilege of hiring.

Unfortunately, we overpaid but it is what it is and that's the climate of football. Again, we'll see.

I don't think (barring injury), we'll see Harry Kane rested in the Premier League. Now, we may see Richarlison come on for him in some games, depending on scoreline but that's about it.

Some top mental gymnastics there but okay you do you

Conte literally came out and said he's looking to rest Kane but okay believe what you want to believe

100%. I want to see Kane rested.

I'd love for us to start acting like a big club and not be frightened in resting players, adapting to certain teams and admitting that Kane and Son aren't undroppable. I'd have dropped Son after his performance against Chelsea as a way of telling him that it was unacceptable to perform like that in a big game.

We didn't. And he continued to stink up the place against Wolves too. Sadly, going off Conte's recent presser and comments it seems like Son will once again start this weekend. We're falling into the same mistakes of playing Son until he's in form. Why not just drop him after bad performances, bring in Richarlison and demand Son try and take that place back from him!?

He held Forest to just one shot on target today. Maybe not the prettiest game but it is clear what his game plan is.

Limit the other team to long shots and set pieces, and then attack in quick transition once we win the ball. Obviously there is room for improvement but so far we have picked up a good chunk of points early in the season without getting out of third gear.

This is also why we see better second half's. We let the opposition tire themselves out in the first half. And then as the game goes on we take over.
