- Emerson was average, yet one of our better players on the day.
- Dav isn't in a position to win us matches.
....And neither was remotely involved in the goals conceded.
They were and are part of a wider issue in the team in that we are poor on the ball playing out of defense and in possession when pressed and contributed to our poor play when chasing the game - when Royal was moved to CB he went from doing ok to one of the worst players on the pitch, his passing in this period was pathetic.
With Emerson he gets in good positions but the attacks breakdown with him and same on the other side
Still. Having one attacker pressing with two sitting back is not sustainable. That's my point. We can't have Kane and Son both chilling and one of Richie or Dejan running themselves into the ground.
If you want any form of pressing structure you need at least two attackers taking part in it consistently. Anything less opens up too much space for the opponent to exploit.
Agree with everything you are saying. We need Center Backs and we need them quickly the fact we have signed so few since 2015 when we signed Alderweirald is a disgrace.
Sanchez (Terrible ball player and sometimes lacks concentration)

Romero (Unlucky with injuries hope it does not become more of a problem.)
Lenglet (Loan from Barcelona which most the fan base did not want)
How have we not signed more Defenders in that period especially since we have known what our back line looked like for years.

In the last 12 months we've won plenty of games with either or both players in the team.
Pinning them with such blame (and absolutes like in the OG post) is just lazy and reeks of a keen-ness to batter one's least favorite players.
Neither are the future, but in an overall poor performance is it's weak to blame them for us "not winning" when it's individual errors elsewhere that were directly responsible for both goals. Davies has been unjustly rinsed too.
We've seen the same thing with Winks..... Good, bad, indifferent or not even in the squad; some players will get their weekly battering regardless.
My point here isn't to convince people how good he is......

Sanchez looked dodgy as fuck. Did he do something monumentally stupid? No, but he didn't help or show he deserves to stay in the team. Emerson was same old, nearly cost us a goal & worked hard. No quality at all to speak of.
These players have proven their level time & time again. A couple of 5/10 performances won't prove anything to me.
