Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I get that , on the money side.
But on specific players it's a different matter.

Manager says I want a WB (don't laugh)

Paratici and team identify a WB ( I did say "don't laugh")

Manager oks purchase of WB (don't mention Spence)

Manager then fucks off

New manager plays a back 4

New WB doesn't suit his system

Paratici then has to identify a FB and the board has to spend more money.

Continuity between managers and their playing style (to some degree) should be a consideration of the DoF also tbf

On one level, you can see the Levy logic behind appointments like Mourinho and Conte. There’s the spin that they are proven winners who guarantee success everywhere they go and I’ll have a bit of that please.

In Conte’s case, not strictly true in that Spurs are the 8th different club side he’s managed. He’s only really had success at 3 of those - Juventus , Inter and Chelsea. Those are clubs that you’re all but guaranteed success at anyway - Italy has more or less always been effectively a 3 club league and at Chelsea he inherited almost all of a title winning squad from 2014/15, who had downed tools the following season on Mourinho.

Quite apart from the negative style, likes of Mourinho and Conte are in my book just a wrong fit for Spurs, or where we were at when both were appointed. Neither have any great staying power or history of hanging around if there isn’t instant success and once things start going wrong. The best managers we’ve had over last 20 years and the best harmony and feel good factor about that place, have been Jol, Redknapp and Pochettino. Three appointments that were all heralded as underwhelming at the time, but three managers who played good attacking football and were project time managers in for the long haul.

That’s the template I felt we should have followed in each of the last 3 appointments since Pochettino. We are, where we are now though. I suspect it’s all a bit academic anyway. There will be a vacancy at Juventus shortly and I would strongly suspect that Conte will be off there like a shot.

Some next level b. c. right there. Conte managed to safe Bari from relegation and in the following season he won Serie B with them, which also give them promotion as it's obvious to Serie A.
Then he finished second with Siena and won them another promotion to Serie A.
Only after that he become Juve coach and lead them to a new glory.
He also done great things for Italy National team, and lost against Germany only on penalty. And that was beyond s.... Italy team. He has done great and everyone was happy with how Italy perform under him.
Conte is a world classz but our squad is dogy..... It's also not helping ghat Son is absolutely s**** and Kane pace is all gone.
No comparison between Conte and Pochettino as well. Pochettino was lucky as he find himself surrounded with players in their absolutely peak. Also a lot of the top side was sh***, and Klopp and Pep just comes to the league and wasn't established yet.

Were they good? Did they actually play well?

Sanchez looked dodgy as fuck. Did he do something monumentally stupid? No, but he didn't help or show he deserves to stay in the team. Emerson was same old, nearly cost us a goal & worked hard. No quality at all to speak of.

These players have proven their level time & time again. A couple of 5/10 performances won't prove anything to me.

As soon as Royal went into the back three he went from very poor to shocking

That needless free kick he gave away towards the end when we were chasing the game thus allowing them to waste even more time typified him!

Everyone knows that conte has certain patterns, my main worry is that everyone else seems to be improving and we're apparently a deki injury away from being painfully average.

Truth is our players are average and we need Kane and Son and Deki being on top form for it to work. Conte can turn it around, I just hope he understands how long it might actually take and is willing to stick around.

Counter attack football in the form of stats, big fucking deal and I'm tired of people perpetuating this myth as if we're struggling in matches and nothing worse that Spurs fans actually buying into this nonsense, honestly this is Woolwich fan properganda.

We play a different style to the majority of Premier League managers, so what - it doesn't mean we're not in control of matches, don't let the media run the narrative how of football should be played, just because it's different doesn't mean it's wrong

Of fucking course counter-attacking team is not high in the list of winning possession high up the field, nor in possession stats nor in final third passes.
FFS some people seem almost braindead, swear to god.

Only two issues in this list are duels won and shots faced. Latter also with pinch of salt cause in some games (before ManUre and Newcastle) opposition could have had 10+ shots but if 75% were super-speculative hits from 30 meters, then who gives a shit really... We have played 1 game more than most others and we have conceded 4 goals more than best defenses in the league. And this includes two absolute brainfarts by Lloris... So we are hardly a team against whom it is easy to actually score.
