Exactly that. His contract can be extended, unilaterally, by the board. The club can trigger a 12 month extension. How does that work .?

Your example was Bielsa. A nutter who suits smaller clubs or national teams. And even then it usually ends in tears very quickly.
What top tier managers have ran their contracts down entirely at clubs and then signed one? Has that ever happened?
Hmm. I'm not sure I get the anxiety. Did Alli G not say the club have the option to extent for a year? The difficulty is whether we end up with a load of players of the wrong profile for our next coach.
I’m sure he can go back to Italy for a bit and bide his time for the right rolemaybe conte believes that big clubs will look for him in the summer, but it will not happen.
juventus has judiciary troubles.
milan and intermilan have economic difficulties.
real madrid will never hire conte, and the same for barcelona, because of their game philosophy.
PSG is happy with galtier.
Bayern Munchen usually prefer german coaches.
atletico madrid is the only big club that could chose him at the end of the season, but they are not better than tottenham ATM
It would be better for him to stay another year at tottenham rather than to watch his colleagues from the tv IMOI’m sure he can go back to Italy for a bit and bide his time for the right role
I don't think Conte cares too much about waiting around for a bigger job. He's done it in the past.maybe conte believes that big clubs will look for him in the summer, but it will not happen.

Ok, the right job. I agree he’s not fussed about a big job, but I’m sure he would take Newcastle, Villa or perhaps Brighton as they all pull in the same directionI don't think Conte cares too much about waiting around for a bigger job. He's done it in the past.
When do any other managers feel a need to do this though? I’ve never known a manager to run his contract down entirely just to play chicken with the owners.
If he was loving life here I doubt he’d be doing this. And frankly the instability it causes isn’t great. How is the club meant to fully invest in him when he’s saying we’ll talk contracts when he has no time left on it?
TBH my gut impression after seeing that interview was that...yeah, he's gone in the summer. Just gave me that vibe tbh.

He might want to go but, as you suggest, if so, we could trigger the extension and then require 12 months compensation from his destination club. By the same token, it offers Conte a guarantee of more money, if things are going well.I'm having trouble getting my head round it.
If he wants to stay he would probably be offered a new contract.
If he wants to go, what's the point of extending by 12 months ? He would probably deliberately implode to get the sack.
Is it something to do with protecting an asset. ? Compensation if he goes to another club within the 12 month extension?
Yeah, doubt he will be here in six weeks - if he is, it will be with a decent extension and 3 new players. He might want to go but, as you suggest, if so, we could trigger the extension and then require 12 months compensation from his destination club. I suspect however, if there is a complete breakdown, we’ll simply part ways.
Im getting a little bit frustrated with this need for wide men who can cross, which seems to be the Conte system. The best teams use that as an alternative to unpicking the defence through the middle. I wonder if Conte is a bit out of touch wanting a midfield of ball winning box-to-box midfielders with full reliance on wide men hitting the by lines for forward play. .
