Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We couldn't get Conte because we weren't able to match his needs. Showed us up for being a nothing club.

Now it's the wrong type of manager because Woolwich and Newcastle are doing well.

I may be narky but fcuk me j just want success.

We should be closer to that rag tag outfit and for sure Conte can do more with his resources but this isn't a straight line analysis.

Watch Arteta next season or Howe, even with his dirty fcuking backers probably struggle if they get into the CL and have to deal with all manner of expectation at club and country level.

16 effing games - shameful.

We need increased performance from players number one. If we can get a couple of quality additions as well then what's the issue?

I have no idea why Levy has a hard on for managers like Jose or Conte. They only work with vast investment and don't play attractive football, they win you titles with elite players/squads (Jose not so much these days though).

We go shopping at Harrods paying Tesco prices. Nothing wrong with Tesco’s we just need managers suited like Potter or Poch or Ten Hag not managers that need world class players in every position.

The vision and the money is out of whack, if we ain’t dropping 300-400m then let’s be smart. Quite frankly unless we serious back Conte with elite CB’s, RWB and attackers this project isn’t going to have a happy ending.
Are you telling me chequebook managers don't work without a chequebook?

Yep. I said the same yesterday. Not being able to get rid of Hitchen’s shit is really holding us back. Saying that I think there will still be plenty to spend.
firing off 100m bullets that dont hit the target is going to have repercussions to a business. luckily since then weve struck gold really. bentancur and kulu look like absolute bargains, bissouma at 30 looks like good business too. hopefully richarlison will be good value too. but especially bentancur and kulu look like real jackpots. kulu has the potential to be a 100m player in a few years.

Season 17 Omg GIF by America's Got Talent

I was shocked I tell you.

Conte and Spurs looking more and more like a mismatch with every passing month.

An elite manager who needs clubs to show ambition to get what he wants and needs at a club that's not going to give him that.

At this rate, we're best off doing away with trying to lure in top class managers by reputation and signing someone with a track record of getting the best out of its team and hoping that we hit lightning in a bottle.

Yes, he absolutely is a mismatch here.

But reason is totally different to what you are saying. He is a mismatch because HE HAS DONE PATHETICALLT SHIT JOB this season.

If this club want success and to move forward then let's start ASAP and sack Conte. He had 1,5 months to do something about us starting with totally limp dick every game and concede first goals - we have done it in SIX games in a row. But no. Look at how we started AGAIN. Nothing fucking changed.

We get outplayed in the midfield every fucking game. And it puts our defense under a lot of pressure. OK - I get it, he cannot bring in new players right now. But then maybe fucking look at the reality of the situation. This defense needs more protection. Start with 3 CMs. Specially given that from 3 attacking players he started, Son return from 13 starts in EPL this season has been 0 goals and 2 assists. But no. With well established stubbornness, lets pick players based on historical merit and... play like we did yesterday for first 60 minutes.

We got some nice results in the start of the season, but all of us saw that everything was so very fragile. But since the defeat to Woolwich we are on a roll 9 games, 4 losses, 1 draw and 4 wins. That is 1,4 ppg (or 53 points per season). During that spell we have conceded 15 goals (!) that is 1,66 goals per game and scored 13.

But worse than being on track to 8th place finish (reasonable to expect with 53 points) is that there is no logical pattern of play in the team anymore. One player does not know where to pass and move. Prime example being attack on 46th minute - all components were there to score before the break, and pass just went nowhere.

All the fightbacks have been rave and all. But it is dead-certain that all half-decent sides will already decide games within the first 60-70 minutes. If our benchmark is to go toe to toe with Leeds, we are fine continuing how we are. But if we aim top4 it is blatantly not good enough.

Conte game and steadied the ship last season and got us to CL. It was brilliant contribution by him and fair play - with that he has deserved the pay he will receive for 1,5 seasons already. But this season everything has fallen off the cliff. We did not lost any key players and in fact number of positions were strenghtened. But we like shit despite bringing in likes of Bissouma, Richie, Perisic and Lenglet.

He is currently out of contract soon, so maybe lets stop burning money with him and make purchases that will suit our long-term future and stop alienating young players like Sarr, Spence and Gil. He does not have the vision or skill that he seemed to have last season and even if he signs new contract, he aint gonna be here more than 1 more season. So lets thank him for that CL finish and start building for actual future, not for the past.

Just because you have an extra defender doesn't make it any easier to defend.

Often with more defenders you end up leaving it to each other. This is why dier always backs off instead of going in for a challenge because he thinks his 2 CB partners will be there to cover for him. If he was there in a 4 and knew he had to make a challenge as the last man I think you'd find we would be better off.

It's a myth having more defenders makes you stronger defensively. Especially with our squad make up. We have shit defenders so why have more of them on the pitch?

Dier in a back 4 is worse than a back 5, the best majority of our defenders (Bar Romero) struggle in a back 4, which is the point here.

It's not an absolute either way..... Gonna depend on the individuals.

The fact is Dier, Davies, Lenglet, Tanganga are all better suited to playing in a 3..... I suspect as much of Sanchez & Romero too.

Which 2 would you trust?
I'd go with this:

Spence Romero Lenglet Udogie

Recall Udogie (even if we have to pay Udinese extra money, just do it), the FBs have speed to help Lenglet's lack of it. Romero plays in a 4 for Argentina.

Put Bentancur and Bissouma in front of them as they actually know how to play DM and have defensive instincts.

If you want 433 then play Bentancur, PEH and Bissouma. Or even throw in Skipp doesn't really matter.

Then the normal 3 up front or Perisic for Son.

And what happens when the next manager fails and the next after that. It’s a merry go round of falling short. Sacking Conte fixes none of our underlying problems.

I've see nothing from Lenglet to suggest to me that he can hold his own in a back 4........ Especially when paired with a live-wire like Romero.

Some fans genuinely don’t realise how bad a look it would be to potential replacement managers to have Conte walk over disputes about ambition, part of the reason the search for a manager went so badly after Jose was bc loads of managers have wised up to who ENIC/Levy are and steered clear. The search for Conte’s successor would be much worse, and based on some of the names that were close to the job before Nuno got it, definitely don’t expect anyone with even quarter of a clue, let alone half.

And what will it take for some fans to realise that apart from ENIC’s lack of ambition, any manager is already set up for medium/long term failure with this squad? Too many players in this team who either simply aren’t up to it or past their best. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve complained on here about decisions Conte’s made in the past and definitely will again but he’s one of the best managers in the game. If he walks, with the way football is now and the way it’s shaping up to be in future, it’s a wrap.

If you want a glimpse of the future ENIC are sleepwalking the club into, watch some of the Premier League Years from the early-mid 2000s where you only see the club when they’d show the bottom half of the table graphic, or in a half empty stadium getting smacked at home by one of the title/CL contenders or sacking a manager.

WHL was always full; even when Spurs were awful.

Tottenham's home and away support was truly magnificent while I was regularly attending games from 87 - 08.

The odd League Cup tie; maybe. Never a league game.

There were thousands of people waiting for season tickets while Spurs were dreadful.

Yep. Losing Conte is 100% the worst thing that could happen to this club in the short and long term. He goes, then kane goes next year.

Everyone may go, yeah but what about the stadium. Well, I remember Schalke were riding high in the bundesliga and qualifying for the champions league regularly in the 2000s and were then lauded for the brand new stadium (with retractable pitch). Now where are they? Nowhere after years of mismanagement.

Alas, it won’t be a wrap.

We will always remain an incredibly attractive team for managers. Great stadium, great pay, London and not too much pressure. Imagine sitting in the interview and trying to keep a straight face when Daniel talks about the importance of winning a trophy.

We’re a great gig - one of the best.

The problem is he's got a contract that expires at the end of the season. I don't think it makes sense to commit 200m to a defensive style coach to then have him walk and have an attacking minded coach come in that wants to play a back 4. Unless conte and levy commit to each other it I can't see us making the required signings needed in January for a conte system.
Another manager not settled & committed Under levy. We are going to keep going through so many managers with no success to show for it.

We had some low numbers In the league during the early 90s.
remember losing to palace in front of 19,000.

Conte is a winner and needs backing, I want him to stay but I don’t think it’s the right fit for him

We have a losers mentality from board to players and the only way we snap out of that is getting lucky with a young manager like we almost did with Poch

We have the best chance with Conte but won’t spend the necessary money to see it through

It’s like getting an f1 driver in to drive your Mazda
