If my Aunt had balls, she'd be my Uncle.

And she did.

Hello Uncle Catherine

We all knew we were punching above our weight when we got Mourinho and again with Conte.

Mourinho had quite a few issues to contend with. Covid, extended injuries to Lloris, Kane and Son, Ndombele/Lo Celso failures and of course Rose, Aurier, Dele, Gedson & Lamela still stinking up the place.

Conte has now run into some challenges. Son's loss of form and injuries to Richarlison, Kulu, Romero and Bentencaur. Bissouma has failed to hit the ground running and Lloris is winding down.

This lends credence to one of my main criticisms of Conte. We don't press or counter press in a organized way. Just middle of the pack.

Sitting back and letting the opponent have the ball for periods works if you know how to press. But we just let the opponent walk through us.

Yes I'm a Conte fan and want him to say but I say this as a nuetral

We're limping because we have/had big first team players missing throughout the season. Players who make a difference when they play. At various points we've had no Romero, no Bentancur, no Kulusevski, no Bissouma, no Moura, no Son and probably others. Even Doherty was injured early on, possibly the reason Royal played too much football.

Without all of those players coming back and probably 2 in this window, I don't think we can put blame on Conte for our woes. Possibly a small share yes, but nowhere near as much as some seem to be.

Loosely speaking X & Y are effectively the same thing.......

Not the most profound of graphs. It's essentially a list.

How many games have we been without Bissouma and Bentancur for? Thats just small, fairly standard injuries. Kulusevski yes Romero to an extent but he's not missed many either. We've not been poor because of Lucas Moura being injured.

The football all season has been terrible. As bad as AVB's first season and not much better than Mourinho's. We've just about hung in there with late wins against the likes of Bournemouth, Leeds. We've lost to Newcastle, Liverpool, Man Utd and Woolwich without really laying a glove on any of them.

I thought Conte was great for us last season but i think he's been poor this season. Too cautious, stubborn with certain players and tactically inflexible. I wouldnt be handing him a new contract until we know where we are after the AC Milan games. A lot of big games between now and then will probably tell us more. I'm not anti Conte, i quite like the bloke but i am anti boring, stodgy football. I really hope we improve get top 4 and win the cup but we need massive improvements on this season so far.

Not having an option in Moura has hurt us. We've had to keep playing Son despite his drop in form. When Kulu has been out at the same time, and Richarlison as well, we've had to call upon Gil
It's an accumulative effect.

Bentancur missed 2 in August/Sept and 4 since the return from the WC
Romero missed 3 between Aug and Sept and 5 between Oct and Nov so 8 from 18 missed.
PEH has been over played because we can't afford to rest him. Compounded by having to play with Skipp instead of either Bentancur or Bissouma. We saw how much PEH benefitted from having Bentancur to play with instead of Winks. They're a good combo.

With our fairly limited squad, these injuries are and have been a big factor.

The blame for Conte really is his utter refusal to see an unknown Djed Spence is a better bet than a tried, tested and failed Royal. He could have seen Diers head isn' straight but then his alternative is Sanchez or Tanganga.

Is it Conte's fault Son has fallen off a cliff? It's like someone has replaced last seasons prolific Son with a tired, confused clone. Pretty much half of our threat has hone with Son's form. Scary but how does Conte get blamed for this?

Matt1882 to your point around Son's form, I do think Conte isn't without blame.

He works with him every single day and must have some sense of the why. Players don't drop off a cliff to the extent we are seeing with Son. If he is knackered then it is on Conte to drop him and give him time out. If it is tactical then address that.

It is easy to say it isn't Conte's fault, it is the player(s) but if that is so why do we need a £15m per year coach?

Knowing why isn't his fault.
I know why I went bald but I can't fix it.
Many people have seen this sort of form in Son in the past but it's been 2 or 3 games, not half a season. I think a lot of people saw it coming and now it's come.

And Conte can't even drop him as the competition is all injured.
