Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

But do you spend 40m on a wingback for a manager who won't be here in 6 months time? If he won't extend his contract and we bring in a coach who wants to play with a back four you're stuck with 40m Porro who probably makes a poor rb.
We should back Conte with quality players regardless of his long term future.

Even if he leaves and is replaced by a more progressive manager... that does not mean 343 formation will be abandoned.
If we have 3 ball playing CBs who can beat the press, and Udogie Porro at WBs... 343 can be an attacking formation. We've seen Potter at Brighton and Nagelsmann use it to dominate games.

The wing back system is dull as hell and it is disturbing how the highest paid manager in the world only has one system. We had Rose and Walker flying down the wings for a couple of years from full back but the system then wasn't built to emphasise them. They just looked good as one component of it.
And hell credit to Poch for having the balls to switch to the diamond when our midfield was shit. At least he tried

Believe in Conte or not but for a manager that builds on a solid defence to then get hard fought wins we ain’t going anywhere with what we have.

Lloris 5 years ago would have not conceded either goal, nor would Ramsdale. Dier and Lenglet are at best average. With reasonable fixes that game is 0-0 not 0-2. This club leaves holes that only get fixed when the whole thing is leaking, that’s not how you build a winning team.

Like Conte ball or not but with a good GK, 2 better CB’s and a proper RWB we are anywhere from 10-15 points better this season even if the football is eye bleeding. You can blame Conte for the lack of entertainment but the weakness in key positions that is constantly costing us points is another issue.

Let us down yesterday in a game that mattered so much to us fans.

I have no idea what to think now. I've been all for backing him, mainly because I'm sick of the manager turnover and just want us to stick with a horse. But time and again I think he's messing up.

I'm not expecting us to batter big teams when we have the likes of Sess and Dier on the team, an off-the-boil attacker, or an ageing and fading captain. But this constant capitulating to the other big teams is embarrasing.

If he was the sort of guy who liked the FA cup then I'd still have faith that we could aim for that trophy and get something out of this weird season. But the other day he admitted he didn't think it was worth it. Levy doesn't either and nor, no doubt, do some of the players.

Right now, I'd give hard cash to a manager with their eyes on that cup and a squad full of youngsters like Gil and Sarr that actually give a shit and want to prove themselves. I'm so tired of watching a team with mentally flatlined 'stars' play for the pay and not the glory.

Not sure what I dislike more really, the terrible football or those weirdos in our fanbase who deify him and drive the narrative of us not being worthy of having him and that he's doing us a favour being here.

Yeah yeah there are wider problems at the club, they might affect how he can do the job, but for 15m plus a year we're paying him he's taking the fucking piss at the moment.

Actually, I have a feeling that the rot emanates from the dressing room and the profile of player (and likely the supporting staff) we sign.

How on earth is Hugo Lloris a club captain? He is a shy, mild-mannered Frenchmen. Kane as vice-captain? The guy can barely speak clearly and has the personality and charisma of a wet towel.

We lost our best player when Eriksen left, and never replaced him.
We lost our club captain when Sissoko left, and never replaced him.
We lost our dressing room 'fun guys' when Dembele, Vertonghen left and never replaced them.

Our dressing room is void of personality, and we have hired an entire squad of introverts.

Brining in Sissoko was the start, his technical inability lowered standard automatially

Yeah so try something different. We dont have those players so earn your 15 mil and come up with a solution

Fuck this useless cunt off now.

Somebody list me one, just one, positive thing that can be attributed to Antonio Conte based on his work this season.

Forget ENIC, forget transfer windows, what exactly have him and his coaching staff done with the squad of players who finished 4th last season, which also had seven additions made to it in the summer.

For 15 million quid a year, somebody please educate me as to how this absolute cunt is earning his money.

I love the personality of Conte but I’m not sure his footballing principles really work at the top end of the PL. 3 at the back is a perfectly functional system and it’s a good thing to have up your sleeve but no other top team plays with that system as religiously as Conte. Our problems in midfield are so obvious and our wing backs so mediocre that persisting with 343 to this extent doesn’t make sense.

It is so clear that the players do not enjoy this system anymore, they are always tentative and never seem willing to move the ball quickly when the game is 0-0. Opponents do not have to suffer when they play us.

When it went tits up at the beginning of his Chelsea reign he quickly changed system, he has to do it now. Let’s sign a new RB who has some pace and attacking nous and we can at least go to a back 4 with Sess/Davies at LB and use Perisic as a forward instead. Our defence is not good enough to keep going with the back 3.

Look, we have been down this road before many times haven't we though?

The last season with Poch (CL run aside) we were all saying the same thing "He doesn't change anything" "Shit formation" "Never makes a sub" all the things we are saying about Conte.

We were getting dominated by teams towards the end of his run. Then skip forward a few, Jose comes.

Started well and as time goes on, same complaints, same EXACT complaints.

Now Conte, started well, ended last season in the top four, this year, same complaints. Isn't flexible, bad subs, shit formation etc.

Look, the reality imo is this, every recent manager we get seems to descend into some form of madness after the first season, shit starts going haywire and all the fans start throwing barbs at the manager and players and yet the thing that is CONSTANTLY overlooked is what impact things behind the scenes are having on everything.

Our owners don't know how to run a football club, that much is evident, they have no plan, they have no solution and I imagine that behind that curtain the lack of any cohesion creates a pretty poor foundation for success.

If I was a betting man I imagine it leaks on to the manager and the players and I think the number one priority is to remove the true rot from this football club and that rot is ENIC.

We are not an entertainment venue or an infrastructure project in the main, first and foremost we are a football club.

So yes, whilst I agree that on a micro scale, game to game, the manager and players should and could be doing better but I think the bigger picture is more important and has more impact than people care to admit.

Levy and Enic ARE the problem.

I get what you are saying generally.

But the thing is - Poch absolutely was found out and his approach was too fucking simplistic. He played it too naive and had no plan B. For some time his plan worked, and then it was found out. This is legitimate critique towards him. With Conte this happened lot quicker though. It was West Ham game, it was END OF AUGUST.

Since then, he has had no answers whatsoever. And it has become lot worse in fact.

Just the way we surrender midfield in every fucking game and how he keeps picking Son - it is spitting fans into face.

It is SO convinient to blame it all to owners and chairman, but I very much doubt Levy was the one forcing him to start Sessegnon or Son.

I mean there are just absurdly idiotic decisions in abundance this season. And all we hear is "oooohh, but our ownership plan is poor". YES, yes it is but that does not mean everyone around the block have free pass to just act like a top notch imbecile.

Club absolutely should have clear direction and plan. Our footballing strategy and long-term plan should be thought through lot better than it has in previous years. All that is true, but ffs it does not give an excuse to shit onto club and supporters.

When I read your answer, it almost felt like COVID pandemic and global warming could also be spun by "being down to poor club leadership by ENIC and Levy".

He knows Son is not playing well, (has to play because no one else)
he knows we get over run every game in the first half
in games when we've had 3 in midfield we did control more of the game

surely as a manager he see 343 is not working for us this season (or at least in the first halfs) so why not play 3 CM's to hold/controla game then change it later in the second half ?
