Pretty interesting to look at.
City being the only team to really committ to pressing in the opponents half is interesting. And the drop down to Brighton and Woolwich in second and third place in that category is quite steep.
I think for us its that we havent played it well and it always end up with us giving up possession and getting over run in midfield, granted we havent had proper Wingback so that might change when we do!Not sure why everyone has such a hangup about playing 4 atb. Brighton play WB's regularly, Brentford as well. Chelsea won the CL against City with WB's.
I can hear that for sure. We could play 3 in MF more and not have to waste 2 of our most talented players.I think for us its that we havent played it well and it always end up with us giving up possession and getting over run in midfield, granted we havent had proper Wingback so that might change when we do!
Reality is though, the players we are buying are very much tailored to 343. Wing backs (Perisic, Udogie, Porro), 'wide 10s' (Kulusevski, Danjuma) and hard working central mids. Conte is even less likely to switch from 343 with Porro and Danjuma on board.I'd actually like to see 4 at the back, so we could have Bennie, Bissouma and Sarr in midfield with Son (last seasons Form) Kane and Kulu up top

If you want to play 4 ATB you are always shopping behind City, Woolwich, Liverpool, Real, Barca and whoever else for specialist fullbacks and CBs. They will always have their pick of the talent before us but they aren't as interested in wingbacks.

You were right, he was already there!!
The way we play it's mostly is a 5 at the back with how deep he sets up the teamIt's because some people don't see it as 343
They see it as 523. They see it as a flat back 5 which they deem as defensive/negative football. They ignore the fact we have a career winger on the left most weeks and a serial attacker on the right from now on.
Fortunately in the real world, players move and coaches have plans for what to do with the ball and without out.
It's worse than that as at least the 2 CM's drop back as well. Often the front 3 are deep. The way we play it's mostly is a 5 at the back with how deep he sets up the team
We were good defensively second half of last season, so yes, it's not just a case of needing better centre backs. And his system might finally start to pay dividends if everyone does their job.
Just need the CB's and keeper to wake the fuck up.
I still think that a big difference compared to last season is that we don't seem to have the same defensive structure this season. We were good defensively second half of last season, so yes, it's not just a case of needing better centre backs.
I think Dier is the key. He sets the tone for the defence. When he's passive and off form, we struggle. So it was encouraging that he had a good game against Fulham. He was a bit more aggressive, dealt with Mitrovic well, and we looked a lot more solid.
I think that's true too. It seems even Conte isn't sure why the organisation has gone backwards though. Probable also that teams have worked out how to counter his system this season.I still think that a big difference compared to last season is that we don't seem to have the same defensive structure this season.
Last season we pressed in a more organized way. We made a lot of our opponents move the ball up the flank and made them take a lot of tough shots. We had a system that made our individual defenders better.
This season the system seems to have changed and doesn't look nearly as organized. And I'd say that that is a big factor in our defensive woes. The defenders are left out to try so much more than what they were last season.
So while I do hope that players like Dier can step it up on a individual level. I also hope that Conte can just set a system to help them.
Poch would increase the stupidity exponentially if he agreed to it.It kind of explains the blokes mood lately. We maybe better under Stellini. I do genuinely think he's gone in the summer though. And we will stupidly rehire Pochettino
Interesting to compare Tanganga with Romero. Romero can be a bit undisciplined in defence. I'm not sure how in tune he is with Dier. Tanganga though is perhaps more inclined to follow Diers lead.I still think that a big difference compared to last season is that we don't seem to have the same defensive structure this season.
