Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

4/5 of the cup exits have been against lower level clubs where quality of squad is not a credible excuse.

Mura (effectively what knocked us out)
2 x champo teams (1 of which was their bonafide B-team too!)
A Forest team that was bottom and an utter clusterfuck of 20-ish new players.

Yep. And beyond an FA cup for Chelsea, Conte's cup record is really quite poor. Straight up rubbish in Europe, and never even won a Coppa Italia for Juve or Inter. Never come close in the domestics for us.

There are managers with much, much better records in cup competitions that we could go for ... hell, Unai Emery would be more likely to get us a trophy. Conte's thing in the league, and its not a competition we're likely to win.

At the moment, any competition is a problem for us, and that includes playing solitaire.

What gave me hope is that he got Inter to the EL final the year they won the league.

I mean fair enough but why? He's sent us out early of every cup we've been in under him. Lost to Mura, lost to Sheffield, lost to Middlesbrough, lost to Forest, and then lost in the first round to a very poor Milan team.

We're not winning the league under Conte, we all agree on this right? And so far his record in every other competition has been objectively awful. So I don't get where the 'our best bet at a trophy' sentiment comes from, I can see an argument for our best best at staying in/around top 4 but winning something? No.
The best arguments for Conte are continuity and avoiding having Paratici involved in hiring another manager (for those of you still suffering from hysterical amnesia from the experience I am referring to Nuno).

We need an identity, a way of playing football that we can fall back on when we don't have a whole week to prepare for the next game. We don't have this now. We only adapt to our opposition and that pragmatic approach is soo fucking boring.

I don’t even think we adapt to the opposition. Conte has his set way of playing, and if the opposition has an effective way of countering it, we’re buggered because he doesn’t have a plan b

It's seems that you are right. But we should be able to play two games a week playing the same way always, without too much loss of quality. But Conte teams can't.

That's fine. Not my cup of tea but hey ho, you do you as a fan.

But my original post was a response to someone saying Conte is our best shot at a cup. Considering how we've done in said cups, I don't see how that's true. Again, maybe he is our best chance at staying in the top 4, but winning something? Not really getting that, we've looked further away from actually winning anything than ever under Conte.
It's not really accurate as you say to suggest Conte is our best chance of winning a cup. Who knows what who's out there waiting for a chance ? . I would say Conte is a high calibre manager but not necessarily our best shot. Mind you plenty have tried and failed and the big mystery is why ? Although is it much of a mystery when considering who's at the helm overall. ?
My point was it's too easy to blame Conte without considering all the contributing factors.

It somewhat states the obvious, but whoever the next manager is should be someone who wants to be at Tottenham, not someone who settled on Spurs when other jobs didn't come his way. Preferably someone on the way up and not living on past glories, someone who wants to build and sustain success. Someone who will hold players, and himself and his staff, accountable.
