Played well with Bentancur in the middle. I still think our midfield set up is wrong but his energy made it a lot less so today.
A future of Gray, Bergvall, and Xavi (if he keeps improving) is a good future to look forward too.
In comparison to what we've been served up this season it was positive.
Maybe. I don’t see that Gray is likely to be really elite if I’m honest. But he’s a good youngster to have in the squad

He is adequate on the ball and that alone puts him levels above any other potential DM we have.
I’m sure he’ll be getting the “all he does is run” treatment that others get after the new shine wears off but that’s a very important part of the game.
He passes the ball with care unlike so many of our other players. It’s with the right pace on it or into the right area where a team mate doesn’t have to break stride.
Think some of the praise I've seen in some quarters is a bit much - it was a solid, unremarkable performance - but I think having his profile alone over any combination of Bentancur/Palhinha/Sarr as a pair really helps. Having a player that bit more technical, that bit better at passing, who can take it on the turn, is a bit calmer is really useful. Vital even.
I still convinced he's playing within himself and there are these little glimpses of his true potential. I think there might be a special player in there but, naturally, he's still a kid so it will take a while for him to truly feel comfortable to express himself at this level. He's gradually getting there - he still hides a bit from the ball on occasion and I'd like to see him show more initiative and cojones, but he's a 19 year old kid ffs. He's doing amazingly for his age.

Gray can be a great player for us, I think his versatility could count against him in his career and used to “fill in” for us or a similar team. Could flourish at a slightly lesser team in CM, needs to be more brave and confident in the final third.
I like him, I like his style of running, handling the ball, passing, and mainly looking to push forward.
It all still look unfinished product though and one can tell this is a talented "young" fella. If this kid gets the minutes and more importantly the manager to manage his development, I see another Gareth Bale story. Not the position or style or speed, but the breakthrough and arrival on world stage as a superstar.

He reminds me of someone great but not able to pinpoint who exactly. I will figure it out. I wish we could get an experienced midfielder who can help him on the field and teach him during the match. Someone like Jordan Henderson (not asking for Henderson to be brought it, just giving an example of an experienced midfield man who can be a mentor for a season or two).

That's ok- if he's merely a solid all-around CM that can stay healthy and be available for us that would still be amazing. A lot of us think he can be much better than that though. Need to wait and see.
VDV does the same. Hugely underrated skill - so many of our players are erratic scrappers who don’t do the basics of this….. another issue we have is no-one can pass the ball first time, especially in CM. Can release forward players and create chances with a simple first time pass
Personally I think he has more potential than most of the young players, he'll never be a 'star' player but he can be important and consistent, kind of like Henderson in many ways.
That’s a better benchmark than Bentacur / Paulinha this season
