Am i the only one that doesn't think he's been "fantastic" this season?

I think he's generally been fine/decent but nothing more and nothing less. He's got a high ceiling but i do think we are overpraising him quite substantially and if it was an academy kid putting in these performances we would be saying he's been decent but would still prefer someone better was starting in that position.

In this instance; more than ever, context is everything.

Age, team predicament and played out of position; he been superb.

No-one's suggesting he should be our first XI CB when everyone's fit.

Posts about call ups for England are weird.

That would depend A LOT on who else there is.

Nah, England call up is a bit too much. For me he has still been sensational.

Played right back and midfield at Leeds and centre back or left back here, always being shifted whenever a player got injured. We have been shit, although that is still more on Ange and his system. Gray at his age has been really solid. And he seems technically gifted compared to some others like Dragusin or Bissouma.

Romero isn't back.

Don't lose sight of his age and relative inexperience.......... A little consistency (in terms of position and what he's being asked to do) will go a long way.... Until we decide that he's not needed at CB any longer then (imo) we should just have him do that.
I don't think Romero will be too far from first team football now. But whether at cb or further up I think he will play a pivotal role for us this season.

He is getting a crash course in defending in the Premier League. When he moves to midfield that is going to be really valuable. He could turn out to be an absolute diamond for us.

He has done amazingly well but he is more impressive for his capacity to adapt and focus. Needs to develop in his given position carefully over the next few years. Way too early for international football talk. Djed Spence now, if there's a better more complete RB in England playing now I missed it. He has to be in the next squad.

While I agree it is, Kobbie mainoo made the euros last summer playing only like 20 games. If Gray ends up walking into the starting 11 at 6 over the next year, with his versatility, it would be very, very hard to see Tuchel leaving him out. Agreed on Djed, especially with tuchel being a back 3 boy.

Our worst player this season according to the “experts” at WhoScored/Football365
Hojlund stinking up the joint for Man Utd as Merino, Cucurella, Akanji criticised: Every Premier League club's worst player

Even Stevie Wonder could see that’s he’s far from our worst player - much nearer the other end of that scale in fact, been mighty impressed with Archie this season
That's a weird list because they seem to be using a algorithm to make it. But they also point out inconsistencies in it.

Just look at their Bournemouth piece, hey have Smith as their worst player, but point out that he is only playing so much because they guy they brought in to replace him has been worse. Yet he is not the worst player in the team, Smith is...

Think my biggest take on Gray is that he's constantly looked more impressive and assured than the 22 year old Seria A team of the season international centre back next to him. That's not to slag off Dragusin, I think playing right centre back in this team is probably up there with the hardest positions in World Football how we set up with Porro and Bissouma/Bentancur both naturally being deep slightly left sided holding midfielders when Kulu is playing (an argument for another time).

Really hope he can finish the last 20 games this year in midfield just to see what it looks like.

We really do seem to be setting up the right side of the defense to fail with how we played. Even with Romero in the side a lot of our goals conceded earlier this season came from that side.

Last season Sarr used to drop out on the right flank as cover when Porro bombed forward. This season we don't see nearly any of that.

If it does transpire that he doesn’t possess the quickness of thought to play the 6

Id like to suggest he does but until that moment

It’s easy to see a filled out Archie dominating his opposite number, winning tackles and expertly marshalling defences

Then stepping out to showcase his ability with the ball being the first playmaker

To be outperforming in that position with all the responsibility that comes with it aged 18 speaks to what a talent he is

I’d pick Archie over the recent edition of Romero
I just don’t see him at 6. I think once he fills out his frame he should be deployed exactly like Rice is at them lot. Sometimes sitting back with the 6, sometimes given licence to go box to box and dominate the press and duels. I think he’s the closest thing to Rice there is. Funnily enough Rice started at CB and there was talk Lampard wanted to sign him back to Chelsea to play there a few years back.

I think he'll be intelligent enough to be able to play any number of roles all over the pitch. I personally think with his temperament and composure you'll see him at his absolute best as a deep lying playmaker.

He came to us as a MF who has played most of his senior minutes at RB iirc but it has been the position he has looked the worst in.

Been a great surprise at CB, played decent for the most part at LB but every time he gets a chance at RB he looks totally out of his depth.
