Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

This is complete bollocks. You could immediately sense and tangibly feel Bale’s star potential. His wand of a left foot and physical brilliance jumped off the screen. He was a bit unlucky at first but such a great physical talent that you knew he’d have the potential to be something.

Gray does nothing at a high level. He does everything at an OK level, but it’s all caveated by “for a 19 year old playing out of position”. He does nothing special. Completely forgettable and not in a good way.
Yeah I was at that 3-3 Fulham away game early in his first season where Bale already looked like he was going to be special. Just glided away from everyone from the half way line, gave the keeper the eyes and passed it in the near post. It just looked so easy for him even then.

The u21 game last night, I turned it on and watched about ten minutes of the second half, in that time saw gray struggling to gain ground back on the left winger who was little more than jogging after the ball got turned over. I really want to see something on or off the ball(he’s very basic on the ball as well) but Iif you don’t you don’t

Let's see what the boy can do under a proper coaching set-up. Frank and Cochrane very well known for their development skills and of course we know Frank wanted Gray at Brentford so he already has a level of understand of the player and what to work on.

As quite a few have rightly said on this forum, lets not judge the players, especially the youngsters, too harshly after a year of being coached by the mighty minds of Raymundo, Jedinak and Montgomery.

We are now going in on a just 19yo…. Comparing him to fucking Bale? Compare him to Kane at 19, how’s does that stack up? Even better against King at 19? You’re as fucking transparent as glass boys. Have a word with yourselves, You’re all supposed to be actual grown men. Do you have any actual sense at all?

Then what were the Leeds fans pissing themselves over?

You could see bales potential right off the bat?? Really? Don’t retighten history. Bale struggled majorly, as did Kane, as did Modric and as did King. You are talking a lot of mad dog shit to suit your agenda.

A lot of it was similar to what people were pissing themselves over here. Maturity and adaptability. He could play numerous positions seamlessly and without moaning. And there it was in the championship where he was actually pretty good so it was turbo charged.
And of course was 17 at that stage.

I dunno, him starting for England at the U21 Euros is yet another example of a manager looking at Gray and seeing a rare and special mix of composure, game-reading and technical quality at a much younger age than the players around him and sticking their neck out to put him in the team.

Bergvall definitely overtook him in performance as the year went along last season and is a very promising player, but it seems to me that the status of their reputations around here is a bit too high on Bergvall and a bit too low on Gray.

Ehhhhh.

He’s a young player who has solid PL experience. That kind of match experience in an area England are terrible at producing players means he’s nailed on a spot.

I think Gray is tidy and mature and could grow slowly but there’s definitely sort of two options here and the other one is he just settles as a decent prem utility player.

I share that fear, but if and when he comes good as a classy senior England regular, the breadcrumbs leading there will have been pretty obvious.

I'm definitely glad the managerial change is happening for his sake. Ange obviously rated Archie a lot, but his philosophy was not a great fit for Gray's gifts and Frank has done great work with players of that age and experience profile.

They saw one of their own from a prestigious Leeds footballing family playing high level football at 17. But then when you actually dug down into what made him so good it was basically “he doesn’t have a weakness”, which is kind of the issue. Sure he’s not terrible at any part of the game, but is he good at any of them?

He's reportedly on £75.000 pw, probably more than double most 19 year old's annual salary.
Exactly my point - if you can't criticise someone making THAT much for sub-par performances, it's ridiculous.

I love how people find it easier to criticise kids in the service sector than a footballer - Oh my food isn't hot take it back! blah blah blah no one goes buh buh they're only 19 making £5 an hour...only in football do people use a WORKERS age...

It makes no sense to me, absolute hypocrisy!

Well even in the context of our own players wages, apparently Bergvall is on £65.000 pw, so why is Gray on £10,000 per week more? I work that out to be a difference of £520,000 per year.

NGL that aspect of football in IRL is the least I care about in football manager I do :D

5 members of my team are on different salaries, 1 of them is useless but gets paid the most not my decision innit...

I don't work in HR or Payroll, I just want the job done - same with football ;)

I doubt these sites that estimate players wages are very accurate. I don't see what all the fuss is about Archie Gray? When we were first reported in the media about possibly signing him, I thought he was going to be some sort of wonder player.

Younger players always get more attention...
