Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I’d like to see him at 6 too but the more I see him I honestly feel he could be swallowed up there until he develops more physically. Especially as a 6 in this system.

A very talented young player but far far too much is being asked of him.

Am i the only one that doesn't think he's been "fantastic" this season?

I think he's generally been fine/decent but nothing more and nothing less. He's got a high ceiling but i do think we are overpraising him quite substantially and if it was an academy kid putting in these performances we would be saying he's been decent but would still prefer someone better was starting in that position. Posts about call ups for England are weird.
not the only one, I’m not seeing the hype if I’m honest. I want to because he seems like a nice kid and I’m hoping he’ll be a player but so far he’s been overrated you have to say, just isolating what he’s actually shown and taking the name Gray and £40m out of it.

get that he’s 18 and maybe out of position(although he’s played far more games at full back in his professional career than anywhere else)but I see more potential growth in Bergvall and Moore

The fact we are regularly playing an 18 year old who remains a prospect rather than a ready now player speaks volumes in and of itself.

We cant properly judge Gray yet. Most players don't even break into the first team until early 20s

Don't want to be too harsh on the kid, but I think I could do what he does, get the ball play it back to the keeper or pass it about in little triangles in front of the box.

We desperately need the men back and let the kids develop.

No one should be criticizing this KID , has been asked to do way more than he should have since he arrived and has stepped up and shown maturity beyond his years .
I hope he spends his career with us , could be legend for us .

been decent at CB considering the shower in front of him in midfield providing no protection at all, then gets shoved back to RB when we have a RB playing at LB

I kind of agee - he has been alright
But is not good enough at the moment to be a starter.
Should be a fringe squad player - not his fault or even Ange's that he is not.

I'm just not seeing it. Sorry. He's clearly got some good attributes, just not seeing where those attributes fit positionally. He's not tenaciously voracious to be a 6, he's comfortable enough in possession but he's not exactly super pressure resistant or able to dibble out of pressure, his passing vision doesn't seem to be anything spunktatstic, just pretty reliable. Seems to get a bit of a nosebleed in forward ares - has been poor as a FB.

Surely to fuck with all the issues we've been having, if he was a big midfield superstar in the making he'd have got time there by now? Bergval has, Sarr did.

Maybe he'll end up as a decent ball playing CB, but he's not the quickest either?

I'm not saying he's shit, I'm just hearing people call him a future superstar, and I'm just not seeing it.

I dont think the bolded has anything to do with a lack of skill to be midfield superstar, more that we haven't had a fit CB pairing for months now, and Gray is actually more competent than Davies, who coincidentally was also injured for a considerable period of time.

Who else would you have played at CB with Romero, VDV, Davies all out injured? Spence? That would put you in a hole at LB then

Only time will tell if Gray turns into a top quality DM but DM is one of those positions it take time for players to develop into, which is why one won't see 18 years old DM in the EPL or any top league for that sake. He's not even played as a DM at Spurs, so it's hard to say how he'll do there when we've never seen him play there; so it's a bit futile to pass judgement on Gray as a DM for now. Let's come back in 1 or 2 seasons. And let's hope the difficult times Gray (and Sarr, Bergvall) will shape him into a stronger and better player.
Also, it may help to have a head-coach who's know more about how to shape a team both offensively and defensively than Angelos does

So if TFC were picking the team and Levy said "only 2 clauses chaps 1.Son must be playing Captain and 2. You must start Gray"
What position would we put young Archie in at?
I haven't a fucking clue but I would like to know where he would start

You haven’t seen him play #6 and he’s not tenaciously voracious?

Give it a rest

Don’t think it’s criticism in a pejorative way. The general feeling is he’s doing very well given that he’s probably not really ready for this level of football at his age. And without all the injuries would have featured less.

I think he’s got a good future, he won’t be Gerrard or Scholes but he’s going going to be a very decent player.

Very flat footed and one paced, so naturally backs off of players when he shouldn’t. His passes are really telegraphed and played at bad angles into players as well. I think £40m is looking a big risk imo. We have some real potential with some of our young players. Honestly I don’t think he’s in that category

He was poor today, no getting around it.

I'm also starting to wonder what his proper position is and why isn't he starting there when we had Davies and Kevin available at CB today.

He's 18 and playing every 3 days for 3 months now. Never hides, never ducks a challenge, always available, he's not one of the players not playing because he "doesn't feel right".
