The kid needs a rest. He's been flogged more than most.

Shouldn't be playing at CB now with Danso and Davies there. Give him 20-30 mins at 6 or 8 in the next few games and see if he can stake a claim for midfield starts.

Once he settles into CM ('cos Biss & Bentancur certainly haven't!) I think he'll cement his place and become un-droppable! He's surely the nearest thing we have to Rice ATM... maybe even future Captain material??

I still think Sarr compliments him best, but as both are kids, I'd have hoped one of the more 'senior' CM's would've stepped up by now....

Seems I was wrong!

Sarr, Gray, Bergwall would be great to see one day...
But right now they desperately need someone senior around them (like Biss, Bentancur or Madders/Son just ahead) to be THERE as examples to help guide them through games...

Instead it's the kids setting the 'grown ups' the example!

Can’t help feeling that somehow / someway this whole side will need to be re-Invented over the next few years

I get the whole buy young / low wages thing ; but / and eventually someone out there ( ? McKenna ) will know what to do with them .

Very flat footed and one paced, so naturally backs off of players when he shouldn’t. His passes are really telegraphed and played at bad angles into players as well. I think £40m is looking a big risk imo. We have some real potential with some of our young players. Honestly I don’t think he’s in that category

This sounds like it's gonna go down like the West Ham supporter who said an 18 year old Frank Lampard wouldn't amount to anything and Scott Canham (wtf is that?) is the better player

Just popped back into page 1 of this thread...
Will get plenty of game time next season. Depth for both Porro and Bissouma.

You don't sign a player for 40m and not play them.
Being in the Europa rather than CL means we should be able to blood the young uns - could be reminiscent of Poch's first season where our youngsters forced their way in to first team contention.
I doubt he would join without some assurances he'll play some games
Oh if only we knew just HOW much game time he was gonna get!!!!

Archie will get alot out of this season. As bad as the results have been, it's allowed these younger guys to gain immense experience in a short space of time. The benefits of this will reaped in 1-2 years.

One of the first times I've heard something from Merson and thought - wow I agree 100%

Tbh I’m starting to worry a bit because I keep hearing him say things that don’t sound like trash talk at the weekly scrabble tournament in broadmoor high security ward.

Obviously still has the odd ripper like Kane should sign for woolwich but either he’s been talking sense recently or I’m headed in his direction

Some people were expecting yesterday some minutes for him in midfield. But clearly seems his main role now is being 3rd CB and rotate with Davies/Danso - till VdV and/or Romero are back.

Given amount of bodies we can put in midfield at the moment, you cannot argue with this approach Ange chodzę for him.

I think Ange had him on bench for 2 reasons
- Like a few players he's been overplayed over last couple of months playing each weekend and midweek.
- Gray is a versatile player so ideal to sub on if necessary as any of 4 defenders or CM: nobody else fits that description.

He'll be back starting matches when Ange can have a planned rotation of players
