If he was £40m at 18 then he should be equivalent to £80m at 25.
I just don't see it he is ok+
(all imo of course I don't give a flying fvck if you disagree)
Why is 40m at 18 equivalent to 80m at 25?

Purchasing him for 80m at 25 would mean 7 years less of a player compared to being signed at 18, assuming you can extend the players contract. And if you can’t extend, if hes purchased at 18, he’s still going to be at an age where he can be sold for value.

The downside of an 18 year old is that they are going to take several more years to develop. But that doesn’t outweigh the positives stated above.

Wanted to say exact same thing.

At 18 you buy a potential. You basically buy a player who's skillset at the time might be worth 10 million. And on top of that you have chances of
40% of chance of him becoming nothing special, so your avg EPL level player who is worth 25 mil
40% of chance of him becoming very good player (one day worth for example 50 mil player)
20% of chance he'll become world class and costs 90 mil

So in the end price comes out as
10 m current sklillset
+50%*15 mil =7,5 mil
+40%*40 mil = 16 mil
+10%* 80 mil = 8 mil
= total of 41,5 mil.
(this is extremely simplistic and could only be used as an example).

You cannot take assumption that "40 mil player at 18 has to be worth 80 mil at 25". If you would have guarantee player would reach that value, you'd be paying more than 40.

Thought he looked fine today

Tidy, won the ball, played simple, covered for Spence and Danso.

But he does need a boot up the fucking backside. No more of this passive shit. Bergvall isn’t passive so it’s not about age.

Start getting hold of games, put yourself about a bit, do some brave things with the ball. Stop being such a pussy who’s afraid to make a mistake.

...I wonder why THAT would be??

Tbh I don't give a flying fuck how much he cost, how old he is and what his favourite team is so long he puts a shift in and performs to a standard equivalent to holding down a starting position. If he doesn't and becomes a liability he will follow the well trodden path of many before him who we have paid over the odds for and struggle to give away.

Sadly I can’t see anything. After watching him at centre back I expected an aggressive midfielder who wins the ball back and can spray passes , unfortunately I’m seeing a weak , slow player who looks like a fish out of water .

theres no doubt that he is playing a bit too timidly, that can be sorted out though, frank can get hold of him and sort that out.

to say you dont see anything tho? you need to pay attention more, hes shown moments of class that you cant teach.

I don't normally debate with your type but to explain what most on here have understood.
If we were buying a 25 year old Gray today would we be paying £80m
I reckon £20m

I didnt watch us much last year. Who wanted to endure that shite. But what I've seen of Gray is exactly this.

Tepid. Not aggressive enough and a bit meh. Hes young, but what he reminds me of so far is like a Ben Davies, Justin Edinburgh, Dean Austin clone that lacks bite and looks ok without doing much.

Take the fee out of it. Gray is still a kid and has time to grow and learn the game but he’s relatively experienced in terms of playing the game at first team level but I don’t see any outstanding attribute that will dramatically improve. He’s an ok passer, mobile and fit. We need a very good passer who can dictate from sitting centre mid,but really be able to rat the opposition. My biggest issue with him playing in there is the lack of awareness in terms of where his next pass will be. It’s always a “get myself out of this situation and see what’s next “ scenario.
I really do hope he kicks on though.

Watch when we are winning. Why bother? You need to endure the lows to appreciate the highs.
Gray played centre half the majority of the time when he is really a midfielder.

But is he ?
He played right back at Leeds mostly.
If he was ready, there is a place as DM but he isn't !!

He didn’t play mostly RB for Leeds, I’ve shared the appearance stats so many times.

His MF appearances are nearly 3x his RB appearances.

His best performances were at DM as well. I.e., vs Chelsea in the carabao. He played no fear and took the piss out of Caicedo et al.

For some reason he’s developed a fear of playing at Spurs.
