Player Archie Gray

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Last night's performance completely rips up my assessment of him probably being another winks/mason/Carroll etc. The guy was magnificent last night, a true all round mature performance
Yeah he was excellent. I was at the chelsea vs leeds cup game a few seasons ago (with clients) and watched him completely dominate chelseas midfield in that game and last night was the same kind of performance. He is a huge talent. If we stay up we need to drop huge money on Wharton and build a dynsty around wharton, gray and bergvall

Saw that game randomly and instantly thought 'we need to sign this kid'. Was so happy when we actually got him but it's taken almost 2 years to see the Archie in midfield that I saw in that Leeds/Chelsea game.

The talent has always been there, though.

Really good last night but as usual everyone is going way overboard

LEAVE ARCHIE ALONE ! HES GENERATIONAL

Yeah same mate. When we got it was so happy but its a shame hes been wasted, but we are now seeing him kick on and can build a midfield round what we have.

Under Poch (should he come back) I think in a 4 2 3 1 we could see some lovely technical football with simons in the eriksen role with Udogie/Souza bombing on providing the width, Madison/Kulu at 10 who i think would love the quick 1 2s pass and move with Simons, bergvall and Gray in midfield or wharton (my dream signing) if we can get him and Kudus on the right and Solanke up front. Young exciting Wingers in Tel and Odobert plus another winger signing (summerville?) And I think we can look like a very good team next season. Obviously need another goal keeper too. Sarr/bergvall or wharton for the bench, Souza/spence on the bench rotating at fullback, Danso and Vuksovic back up CBs, Richie back up striker.

I guess

Gray and Sarr has looked pretty good as a pair and the same idea about profile fits would have us believe they shouldn’t.

Move Bentancur, Bissouma, don’t sign Palinha, then I’m fine with Gallagher as long as the next CM we sign is a passing CM

That still leaves Bergvall, Sarr, Gray and Gallagher all vying for the same position as an 8.

I would sign Palhina. He's experienced and tough. And it seems his attitude is pretty good - one of the best in the squad. He's a very specific tool, JP, but one that a lot of PL clubs would want in the locker. Has actually been one of our best 3 or 4 players this year also. We might be able to negotiate down the fee of course. We need to avoid the mistake of too many young players again. We need old tough heads with the right attitude in decent numbers.

Biss and Bent I agree. Get rid. And yes, a passing CM is needed

The thing is, no top PL clubs do want a mid as limited on the ball as Palhinha. There's a reason Bayern binned him off almost immediately and we were able to sign him without any real competition.

He's great at a Fulham-level club but signing him on a perm will just create problems for us in the long run, especially given his age, wages, etc.

He's not a bad player, but we need to look past his eye catching leadership and strong tackles - whenever we're in possession he's a problem.

Palinha will need top wages and 25m in transfer fee with no sell on.

Has he really played well enough to justify that? Our midfield has been dysfunctional with him in it.

Bergvall, Gray, Gallagher and Sarr are 4 decent mids, but they still profile too similarly. We need better passing in there and, ideally, more press resistance.

For the sake of squad balance we're gonna have to let at least 1, maybe 2, decent midfielders leave the club so we can actually bring in some different profiles rather than just a sea of 8s.

He's not a bad player but I think we need to sell Sarr simply to create space for a different type of midfielder. Gray and Bergvall are the better talents imo.

And yeah, goes without saying we need to sell Bentancur, not renew Palhinha and bid farewell to Bissouma.
I think gray is being shown to be an outstanding passer, Bergvall is more a mobile dribbler both fair press resitent and will continue to improve, I agree sarr and gallagher are too similar. I would go all out for Wharton not that I think well get him but hes exactly what we need.

Yeah well generate money from biss and bentacur and should help fund a move for a top CM. I think its likely we have some money coming in from a bunch of other outs too, I think Solomon, Devine both have a 10m buy out clause, the Argentinian striker is going for 8m I think, Donley has a buy out clause, I can see couple more like Lankshear sold for 10m, its inevitable one of Romero/VDV will go, likely Dragusin too so that so should raise even more cash. Provided we stay up (with the windfall from Champs league too) should be plenty of money to spend.

IF kulu and madds look back to their best also, we really do not need many players, particular given well have no europe, so hopefully it means we just go big on 3 players, 4 (if cb is sold), a passing 6, a LW, and a GK.

Think the club might still look to develop Bergvall as a 10 even if he's currently better suited to being an 8.
I dont think they will. Its not in our benefit from a squad building perspective.

In theory we have 2 good 10s, (if maddison returns to form post ACL) , we have two of best academy talents at 10 in Moore and LWB, who hopefully in 2 years will be ready to take over from Maddison (playing back up to a hopefully firing Simons.

Bergvall needs to be developed for a double pivot really, he is good counter balance to gray IMO.

Im not personally as huge on Bergvall as most others, I think he is very overrated by alot of people and think his passing is veyr average, positionally is poor, his defensive awareness is poor and he is prone to a lot of mistakes. Now alot of this can be ironed out with coaching and experience but people overrate him because hes athletic and always does some nice dribbles which is obviously great, but a lot more to the game than that.

Why would you presume that? And in a 3, wouldn’t the other one be a more attacking player like Simons, Kulusevski or Maddison?

3 man midfield ideally for the best balance is a 6/8/10

6 -Passing 6
8- Gray/Bergvall/Sarr/Gallagher
10 -Maddison/Xavi

Neither of those 8's excel at attacking or defending, they are runners/ball carriers/box crashers albeit with different technical profiles.

Maybe Bergvall and Gray can grow into 6's when they mature a bit more but for now they are 8's

Bergvall's a rough diamond. He's shown glimpses at being good/excellent at almost everything - he's a menace off the ball, capable of box crashing and scoring improvised finishes, good technically in tight areas, a powerful runner and strong dribbler, and also has a pretty wide range of passing.

The thing is, he's also raw and immature so makes mistakes and lacks positional discipline (which is why I think Frank never trusted him as a CM) and his passing game is inconsistent.

Gray is the far more mature player of the two right now but if Bergvall lives up to his potential and can refine his game, the sky really is the limit. He could be a proper monster if he stays fit and keeps improving.
