Competition Are we playing for 5th ?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

People do need to keep their feet on the ground. Notwithstanding ManC away we’ve had a pretty decent run of fixtures through to end of October. That means we get tougher once’s later.

I’m not getting carried away yet but I’m liking what I’m seeing from Frank. Every game we seem to set ourselves up tactically different. It’s fascinating.

After seeing the Simons display from midfield and on the results so far (Bournemouth apart and Frank admitted tactically he got it wrong) we should be capable of top four, even Liverpool after spending a fortune didn't look that impressive in the second half against Everton and not that great at Burnley.
Should get a better idea of our capabilities when we come up against teams that we have mostly lost too in recent seasons like Woolwich, Chelsea and Liverpool.

I agree.

I can't see Woolwich, Liverpool or City looking forward to the games at WHL this season.

Spurs problems are always the same.

The London derbies.

We have already taken 6 points from West Ham and Manchester City away; two of our hardest fixtures.

We are still in it until we play all the top teams at home in my opinion.

I'm gonna play "swap the results over but keep the points the same" game to make myself feel better about yesterday... Here goes:

Our actual results:

Burnley (h) W 3-0
*Man City (a) W 2-0
*Bournemouth (h) L 0-1

**West Ham (a) W 3-0
Brighton (a) D 2-2
**Wolves (h) D 1-1

11 Points/3rd Pos.
Swap the Man City & Bournemouth results, same with West Ham & Wolves and look how it reads:

Burnley (h) W 3-0
Man City (a) L 0-1
Bournemouth (h) W 2-0
West Ham (a) D 1-1
Brighton (a) D 2-2
Wolves (h) W3-0

11 Points/ 3rd Place!

Swapping some of the more unexpected results (Man City & West Ham away) with the disappointing ones, (Bournemouth & Wolves) and it gives you a very different picture...

Losing away at City and drawing at West Ham wouldn't have been SO out of the ordinary, in exchange for comfortable & expected home wins against Bournemouth & Wolves and we're in EXACTLY the same place as we are right now!

Yes, I realise it's all Auntie-Balls-Uncle bollocks, but in an age of gender neutrality, I think we can make a good case for it!!

Newcastle, Palace and Bournemouth remain our rivals for 5th, Chelsea I reckon could get dragged into it.

Think if Palace didn't have European football then they'd definitely push for a top 4 place, incredible well drilled side.

Top 7 and I’m fairly happy - I’d have no problems if we did a Seville and won a load of Europas in a short period of time - and we’re def capable

Bournemouth will tire and slide like they did last year, they have some excellent players but the squad overall is punching at the moment.

Palace - should be winning that conference league, will be interesting if they get to April and have a real chance of CL and the Conference to see what Glasner goes for - he won’t be there next season so he might go for another cup. It’s ridiculous that United haven’t moved for Glasner already. Final thought on Palace, it would be hilarious if they qualified for the CL before West Ham did, let that tin pot club know their real place.

Horse punchers - we will lose up their and struggle at home to them, but I think we will finish above them. They struggled last time they were in the CL and I think their squad is weaker this time. Eddie loves a draw as well.

Brighton - bloody good side, hate playing them

Chavs - I don’t rate Maresca at all, I think they could easily finish outside the top 6

Sadly, seen enough to suggest we are not a top five team. If you cant put away Wolves at home then it completely negates getting good results against your perceived rivals on the road... we are probably 7th - 9th and for me, thats not good enough.

Think the club can get fifth at best.
Results though. Bournemouth and Wolverhampton, even Villereal show how shite we are at home.
No decent striker up top is harming the teams potential along with, no decent LW option.
Wtf is up with solanke and Muani. Both of them seem be made of tissue paper.

They are our bogey team.

Man City don’t claim they are not good enough to win the Orem and CL because we beat them consistently - some teams are just perfectly suited to playing others and it’s always been the case.

Solanke went 4 seasons without an injury before signing for us.

I think currently there is a malaise from the Ange period at home. Frank likes setting up on the counter and we look very dangerous in our away games. At home we seem to lack ideas because the opposition isn’t flying out against us and leaving space in behind. Missing Maddison does not help, but also this where Xavi was brought in.

It will take time

Doubtful. We've been ordinary. Our attack is clueless and we've had a very easy schedule so far. We keep playing like with this imagination and vigour in November and December, and we're in trouble.

With all due respect, City losing to us, a perceived rival is nowhere near the same as us getting a fortunate point against Wolves who are not a perceived rival.

Yeah but our recent record against them is abysmal - rival or not. Even Poch was losing at home to them at Wembley with Kane, Son, Alli, Eriksen.

Win the next 2 and we’re a shoe in for CL knockouts and will be on track for 2 points per game in the league. We’re also still in both domestic cup competitions.

I’m not understanding the doom gloom after struggling against a side we seemingly always struggle against. We’ve lost once all season in all competitions

We’ve had Solanke, Maddison, Kulu, Muani all out. Sarr has missed the last couple also.

We’ve failed to score only once this season across all comps and we’ve kept 5 clean sheets in 8 games.

We’re doing fine

Other than City who had played in the world club cup and probably not on full throttle who have we played. 3 relegation candidates and Brighton. We struggled against Wolves not because we always do but because we showed them too much respect. Team selection and tactics were wrong and when Wolves changed formation it took Frank way too long to react and when he did it made no difference. We have to improve massively if you think we are going to get anywhere near 76 points.
