Competition Are we playing for 5th ?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Unbeaten in the league.

No goals conceded.

Beaten the best team in the league in 2025 at their place. Stroll in the park for Thomas’ lads.

We have Brazils number 9 as our CF.

It’s very clear we are playing for the title. If we throw it away from this position of supreme strength it will be a travesty!!

Well I clearly did a whole lot of high grade LSD last week.

It's between us, Utd, Villa, Newcastle and forest IMO - looking at the relative squads I don't see why we shouldn't be getting 5th, we should be at least challenging for it.

Did Newcastle replace isak at all?

If they had kept him, I'd say they have the talent and coaching edge on us. If they didn't replace him, we have a good shot at overtaking them.

My real fear is bournemouth as a dark horse. But Nottingham seems weaker, and city seems to be continuing their march down the table. 4th is there for the taking if we click well and January surprisingly goes well with one good addition.

My head says after finishing 17th , 5th would be great and give us a good spring board for the season , however my heart Says if this squad of players can stay fit and it clicks with the new signings then lets dare to dream!
"Its better to fail Aiming high, then to succeed aiming low, and we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of Glory"

As the pundits believe that Liverpool, City, Woolwich and Chelski are finishing 1-4 , (not necessarily in that order), is the best we can achieve 5th ?
Of course this may be good enough for champions league or at least Europa Cup again.
Who should we compare ourselves to ?
The media + the Premier League is pushing Woowich and Chelsea. Chelsea looks terrible. Should've dropped 2 or all 3 points vs. Fulham but the VAR delivered them 3 points. City is a compromised club. Guardiola is sabotaged but he will probably pull through during the season. Chelsea have money but are all over the place. They seem terrible given how much they spend and how many players they keep getting.

If Frank qualifies for the CL again that'd be huge. He will need the first season to weed out and transfer out poor players. Hopefully more transfer work is done in January.

The team showed v Bournemouth that we still have a massive consistency issue and until that is rectified, even 5th will be a long shot.

We next face a West Ham side fresh off the back of a morale boosting victory who will be massively motivated against us.

We need a win there otherwise our start to the season starts to look quite poor. Imperative our new signings hit the ground running.

I think we should temper expectations this season. There’s a lot of work to do, however our team is strong enough quality wise so it would be an underachievement if Frank can’t get this squad into the top 7 IMO.

I'm surprised at the negative comments. Assuming there is not an injury crisis like Spurs had the past 3 seasons, there is no reason to think this squad can't win the league.

Spurs finished 5th in an injury ravaged season where they were forced to play Davies/Royal at center back.

Vic, Porro, Romero, VDV, Udogie + Paulinha has to rank as one of the best defences in the league. Spurs will no longer be playing out from the back, so one of Vic's weaknesses will be mitigated.

Spurs will be more conservative and defensive. Expect more draws, less losses.

Of course, up front there is no Son, Kulu and Madison - and Johnson may well have lost his place. So it's hard to see where the goals will come from. But if Spurs become set piece FC, there are plenty of goal scorers in the side. But, it's clear Spurs need a focal point and goal scorer so either Solanke, Richarlison, Tel or Johnson will need to fight to become that guy - and that competition makes perfect conditions for them give 100% to claim the starting place.

COYS

We just lost to Bournemouth at home and were completely outplayed. Your post is deluded to the extreme and shows how carried away fans can get with two wins

I don’t really know where we are yet. Will have to see what we look like once the CL starts up.

Hot take is that City have a big red flag over them for top four this year… One Rodri injury and they are in trouble.

Until we cut out the absolute stinking performances like last week we will fall short of top four,at the moment there are about five or six teams likely to finish ahead of us .A cup win and well inside the top ten is achievable at this moment .We need at least another good transfer window to really get going I think .

My stance is always that the minimum requirement for a okay season is some form of European qualification through the league. So ECL at the bare minimum. If we can sneak a cup on top of that then that's a bonus.

We have the 5th best squad in the PL. No doubt in my mind after the transfer window.

If Isak stayed at Newcastle then they would shade it over us but not anymore.

Now it’s all about form and fitness

Vicario
Spence Romero VDV Udogie
Palinha Sarr
Xavi
Kudus Solanke RKM

That’s probably the best 11 for the way Frank wants to play and I think that 11 can hurt just about every team/system in the PL.

Knockouts in the CL, decent cup runs domestically, dare I say even a League Cup and 7th + and we’d have had a good first season.

56-65 points is the range for 7th over the last five years with the average being 60.8, 61 for arguments sake. We aren’t losing 22 games this year, so we should be able to make up the 23 point deficit whilst still losing *some* matches.

Obviously our results against teams we are competing with for these positions are crucial and more helpful to getting an advantage come the end of the season.

I know they just beat Forest but West Ham are shite. If we can't beat them, then we are probably staring at 8th - 11th which will be hugely disappointing.
