Dier will never play another game for Spurs again.

I would say he's likely eighth choice. Behind Romero, van de Ven, Phillips, Dorrington, Davies, Royal and Jedinak

I really cannot see Phillips being thrown in to start a premier league game any time soon. I truly think we would use Davies or Romero before him at this stage.

Blackburn fans were keen for him to be a 4th choice this season and slowly integrate him.

I think he will get minutes but no chance he will be our 3rd choice CB at this stage.

The issue is it's tricky to get minutes for CBs.

Case in point, we're 5-1 up at Burnley and he doesn't get on. A young attacker would.

Nice to see him on the bench vs Burnley. But if/when injuries or suspensions take out Romero, it would still be a huge surprise if Phillips started. I can't think of any 18 yo CBs starting in the EPL?

Reality is that Dier isn't a bad character, so if he's still here once all tf windows close, he might come in as cover, at least until Jan. He didn't look fit/sharp to me in the friendly vs Barca, but assuming he's been working on that since, we may yet see more of him. Other than that, maybe Bentancur or Hojbjerg could play CB temporarily.

We didn’t sell Sanchez to play Bentancur or Hojbjerg at centreback.

You think Phillips gets picked there ahead of them (and Dier)?
I don’t know enough about Phillips. If it were me and we were playing deep for the last 10 minutes then I’d bring on Dier. If we had a high line then I’d play Phillips. But I appreciate we won’t necessarily have both on the bench… and doesn’t answer who I would start with if someone was injured or suspended.

Probably meant Royal

Sorry I meant Royal.

I think Phillips looks a great prospect and I think the plan is to have him train with the first team.

But honestly if you read the Blackburn fan forums (there are only limited posts) - none of them were calling for him to be a starter based on his limited appearances. Most say he looked like he had potential but they were very realistic about the level of opponent he was up against.

If he was ready to start Premier League games I feel sure their fans would have been clamouring for him to start for them?

Blackburn barely deemed him ready for the squad at all for the second half of last season, let alone starting games.

So how is he ready for us?

I think I trust Ange's opinion over some Blackburn fans on a forum. Time will tell.

Hopefully, he was just at such an early stage in his development that he wasn't catching people's eyes. Or maybe a case of a manager not seeing the talent, the same way Cunte didn't see the value of Bisosuma and Sarr.

That's up to Ange, not you.
