Who else plays CB with Phillips/Davies if not Dier? Not a lot of teams have world class center backs just waiting on the bench to deputize for a bang on starter.
I think if fit, Davies will be needed on the LEFT, seeing as we have literally Zero fit players for that position...
If anything, Dier will start, and Emerson or Phillips will partner him...
Maybe we'll get away with it against Wolves or Villa, but Man City will rip us a new one!

He might be the best fit of the options available for Ange's system but still he only turned 18 in the summer and coming in as cover for players missing so probably best not to judge whether he's 'the real deal' or not based on the next few games...

One thing that can't really be denied, the "kid" is build for it. Far from a skinny little kid.
He's actually got quite an imposing frame on him.
Given the way we seem to set up, does it really matter "that" much if we only have right footers? We seem to play on the halfway line and try to beat the attack back if they manage to break. Dier won't do that because he's slow and doesn't tackle, but Phillips is apparently rapid so does it matter what foot he uses?

At Celtic we had two right footers at centre half. In terms of defending it worked fine, although sometimes in the build up it was evident how useful having a left footed centre half would have been. Cant imagine thatt'll be too much of an issue on Saturday anyway, given Wolves will likely sit off us.

We surely need 101% from every single player ahead of the defensive line. To press, to take away the room, to keep possession, to score goals. Then there is less defending to do.
Oh and big Vic will have another test coming up as well obviously.
So if all other components do well, I could see even untested 18yo defender doing well. I would be pretty effing excited before the kick-off to see how he will do, I know that for sure.

Just give him a go at the weekend I reckon. Him and Dier together could actually be fine given Dier's experience and he will help him through the game.

outstanding in what sense? A spirited performance v Chelsea agreed and unlucky with the goal, but I think we all know he will let us down once again. He’s simply not good enough.

I don’t want to be right. I would rather Eric Dier put in MOTM performances every game, but I don’t think he’s good enough and a spirited Chelsea performance doesn’t change that mate. He lets us down time and time again.

My point is, like Hoijberg, he probably CAN'T do it week in, week out over an entire season... But no one is asking him to...
But give him a run of 6+ games (which this will probably be, with Romero banned for 3 and VDV out for who knows how many) and I think/hope/trust he might surprise a few!!
