outstanding in what sense? A spirited performance v Chelsea agreed and unlucky with the goal, but I think we all know he will let us down once again. He’s simply not good enough.
Outstanding in the sense that he came on at a difficult time and barely put a foot wrong. It was a great performance, 8+ out of 10 if I bothered with the
ratings thing.

Seems to me like you and some others want to cling on to an image you have of him. See also Winks, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Hugo, Davies and loads going back further. Beats me why people find it so hard to give credit where it's due.

I was never Sissoko's biggest fan but was delighted when he did well. My mate and I got to our feet and applauded him at the Nou Camp when he helped us turn the game around playing out of his skin and out of position.

Things don't have to be black and white, there's room for all sorts of shades in between.

One thing that can't really be denied, the "kid" is build for it. Far from a skinny little kid.

He's actually got quite an imposing frame on him.

Given the way we seem to set up, does it really matter "that" much if we only have right footers? We seem to play on the halfway line and try to beat the attack back if they manage to break. Dier won't do that because he's slow and doesn't tackle, but Phillips is apparently rapid so does it matter what foot he uses?
When chasing down an opponent who is on your outside, ideally it is the opposite side foot that swings around to clear the ball from in front of their feet. The chances of connecting with the opponent's feet before the ball a marginally higher when you're using the near-leg to clear it.

I’m really excited about didn’t expect to see him so soon but im ready for him!

Does anyone know if England U21s have fixtures in nov? Ange to get 2 straight weeks with Ash could be amazing! But he’ll prob be on international duty

EDIT they do… of course they fucking do

Well that’s your opinion. My opinion is he’s a liability and give him enough games, he will eventually cost us as seen time and time again. Doesn’t need to be black and white when i see it with my own eyes with him almost every game last season. Simply not good enough.

Given enough games? Liability.
Romero is one of our best defenders, and yet HE was a liability on Monday...
EVERYTHING changed the moment he got sent off...
It shouldn't have happened, but it DID!

I don't recall Dier getting a red card, and putting us in it...

Had to check, admittedly, but here it is;

Point is, Dier, for all his defensive limitations, has never put us in schtick like Romero has...

It's not a case of who is the better overall defender (clearly, Romero is) it's about giving credit where credits due about who you can depend on in a bleak situation... Which we currently find ourselves in!

Mate

I am gonna put my faith in the lad and he is going to step up.

Gonna be Udogie 2.0, the CB version.

Looking forward to it and not worried at all.

This selective reasoning overlooks the fact that Dier gets less reds because he rarely challenges for the ball. He's been a very busy traffic cone for a while now and no longer has a superior defender to mask his limitations - diminishing recovery pace, anticipation and positioning.

Romero's issue (besides his occasional red mist) is that he goes to ground too often and invites the chaos - great when it works out, invigorating, but should be more the exception than the rule. Maldini needs to have a word in his ear!

All that being said, I think Eric will enjoy the way we play under Ange and perform competently until Romero's back.

that's the fools hope we all have right now, that he's just an absolute beast and we forget about VDV/Romero
More like, give him a taste to aspire too and wait for Romero to come back and he can cover VdV until he comes back or January, which ever is sooner.

He is young and hungry, and quicker. If he doesn't work, replace him in January anyway, if he does, then that saves us a bit of money to spend elsewhere. Like right wing, or another magician in the middle.

Hands up who else had totally forgotten about him...?
