0-1: Defoe (44)
0-2: Paulinho (49)
0-3: Chadli (86)
0-4: Defoe (90)

after what i seen tonight ,here we go, my ratings today (from 1 to 10)
Friedel (8) well done tonight, save 3-4 dangerous shoots, safe in interventions.
Fryers (7) ok today ,without any huge mistakes
Vertonghen (7,5) safe today, ministry of defense, almost to make a.villa player to remain naked in min.47 funny moment :)
Chiriches (7) first his game, his debut, a little nervous first 15 minutes,an error of him made a.villa being close to score min 15,but Friedel save the ball,Chiriches then he start to feel more confident in himself, making 2 ,3 good tacklings, then in the second half ,advance more in the field,in the middle zone of the pitch, in dribbling, without losing the ball (psychologically= that meant he was confident ,being many times in the midfield area (min.77 ran with the ball in the half of the pitch of A.Villa) from the min. 79 played right back, because Walker comes off,Dawson in...i see him in Europa League games in the first 11,definetely ,in this moment Dawson-Vertonghen are titulars in central defense area
Walker (7,5) he get a little injury ,but the he play 79 minutes,he played well,i like him, very good right back.
Sandro (7,5) working more today, good interceptions, running also back to help defense ,then advance in the a.villa half pitch trying good passes for his team mates
Paulinho (8) great asset for the squad, many good interceptions, scoring with a "kung fu" kick style for 2-0 min 49.
Lamela (7,5) technical player,he made good passes, entering in combinations, good effort today, well done.
Holtby (9) i choosing man of the match tonight, man responsible with assists, good vision with his assists
Kane (7,5) he played well today, fighter,he was dangerous for a.villa players,
Defoe (8) scoring 2 goals (Holtby assists) he gave what the striker had to do -the man responsible with goal(s)

substitutions: Dembele (7) min.63 for Paulinho
Chadli (7,5) (min 72 for Kane) =one goal tonight for him
Dawson (7) (min.79 for Walker)

Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park on Tuesday 24th September 2013 (KO 19:45) in the third round of 2013-14 Football League (Capital One) Cup.

Villa beat Rotherham United 3-0 at home in the second round with goals from Andreas Weimann, Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph, while Spurs had a bye due to European commitments. This is the first domestic cup tie contested between Villa and Spurs in 19 years.

The match at will be the 165th time the two teams have met. Tottenham Hotspur first played Aston Villa on 11th April 1896 when Spurs were still in the Southern League. The friendly match played at Tottenham Marshes ended with a 3-1 win for Aston Villa. Three more friendlies were played until the clubs met in anger for the first time in the old Third Round of the FA Cup (today's 5th Round) in March 1903 with Villa winning 3-2.

The first Football League meeting came on 20th November 1909 in the First Division after Spurs had been promoted after their first season of League football. Villa once again won 3-2.

There have been two Wembley matches played between the two clubs. The first was in the 1971 Football League Cup Final which Spurs won 2-0 with two goals from Martin Chivers - Aston Villa were in the Third Division at the time.

The second game at Wembley came in the 1981 Charity Shield with FA Cup Winners Spurs drawing 2-2 with Football League Champions Aston Villa. Mark Falco scored both Spurs goals and Peter Withe did likewise for Villa.

The last time the two clubs met in a domestic cup tie was in the 5th Round of the League Cup in January 1994 with Villa winning 2-1.

Both Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur were founder-members of the Premier League in 1992-93 and the two clubs, along with Woolwich, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United are among the only seven ever-present clubs during the competition's 21 season history.

Spurs did the 'double' over Villa in 2010-11 winning both matches 2-1 with Rafael van der Vaart scoring all of Tottenham's four goals. Villa's two goals both came from Marc Albrighton at White Hart Lane in October and Villa Park in December, after Spurs had been reduced to ten men after Jermain Defoe's red card after 27 minutes.

Spurs signed former Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel during the summer of 2011 on a free transfer. Alan Hutton made a move in the opposite direction and Jermaine Jenas joined Villa on a season's loan.

The 2011-12 at White Hart Lane last season took place on Monday 21st November and resulted in a 2-0 win for Tottenham. Two first half goals from Emmanuel Adebayor after 14 and 40 minutes were enough to see Spurs take all three points in a game marked by Harry Redknapp's return after undergoing minor heart surgery. In January 2012 former Spurs striker Robbie Keane had a loan spell with Aston Villa scoring 3 times in 7 appearances. The match at Villa Park in April 2012 finished 1-1 with Ciaran Clark putting Villa ahead with a 25-yard shot that deflected off William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor scoring a 62nd minute penalty to level the proceedings.

This fixture at White Hart Lane in October 2012 resulted in a 2-0 win for Spurs. After a goalless first half, Steven Caulker put Spurs ahead after 58 minutes when he deflected-in Jermain Defoe's close range shot and Aaron Lennon added a second in the 67th minute with
a powerful shot into the far corner of the net.

Villa were in a very generous mood when they hosted Spurs on Boxing Day 2012 with Spurs coming away with all three points after a 4-0 win. Jermain Defoe opened the scoring and Gareth Bale added a hat-trick.

Tuesday's game at Villa Park will be the 165th match played between the two clubs and Spurs have the edge with 66 wins to Villa's 59 with 39 matches having been drawn.

Eriksen-sen-sen Tottenhams number 23,
Eriksen-sen-sen came to play for AVB,
To the left, to the right,
He's our midfield dynamite,
When he plays for lillywhites,
He makes Ozil look shite.

:lennonlol: love it

Love this quote from a Villa Forum im currently reading.

We were finishing 6th while Spurs were midtable just a few years ago.
Now their reserves cost more than our first team. What the **** happened.

Great running of this club from top to bottom for the past 5 years. Pat yourselves on the back ENIC/Levy/Lewis.
From a very happy spurs fan.

This may sound really weird, but I feel sorry for Villa fans. They were up there with us until recently and now they will IMO always be hovering around top 10 / relegation places.
This is the big problem with football, that once a team establishes itself at the top it is incredibly hard to dispose of them unless a self implosion happens similar to Leeds.

The top teams have too much of a monopoly on trophies and i'd like to see some lesser teams winning it or having some glory like Birmingham and Wigan.

I feela bit sorry for them too because I can remember growing up and being in their shoes when we would get spanked by some team with lots of expensive players while our starting 11 were injured and werent all that good on the best of days anyway.
I agree that there is a bias toward the top teams and we've seen it today in that penalty decision. It was a stone wall penalty all day long. I dont think it would have changed the result, but that isnt really the point because if you're a Villa fan it is just salt in the wound and the feeling of being unfairly beaten.
But, having endured all that for endless years as a Spurs fan, I am not about to hope that the system changes. We have determinedly wrestled ourselves into the top bunch of clubs in the BPL without a big daddy gifting us a team, we have put up with our best players being nicked each year and just wisely reinvesting it and we deserve our time at the top. I am just going to enjoy every minute of being a really good club and genuine challengers. The great thing is that even if were to lose to Chelski this w/e it doesn't feel like it would be the end of the world, it's not essential that we beat them as it has seemed in seasons gone by. Oddly enough I expect that is part of the reason why we might beat them this w/e because the team know they are good. One wrong result doesn't matter because we aren't winning by luck but by merit these days.
