Ben is the kinda guy, if your daughter brought him home and said he's my boyfriend, you wouldn't even mind if he also shagged your wife.

Ben Davies sums up where we are with our squad currently.

For years he was the one that wasn't ever good enough to start but now he looks like one of the better players compared to some of the ones we have right now.

Hate this narrative.......

Timely reminder...... When Poch's team were at their 2017 performance peak...... Rose was out for nearly a full year. It was BEN DAVIES helping with the clean sheets and tearing up and down the wing; often twice a week.

Wonder if he'll follow in the Mason path and go into coaching.

We'll need an in-house interim I'm sure
:davieshmm:
Absolutely has coach written all over him!

We need a great ex-Player to come back as a Coach...

Not since Bill Nic have we had a GENUINELY great player also a great manager... Maybe he set the bar TOO high, never to be matched?

Cos the rest - though popular - have all been a bit, Meh!
Hoddle, Ardiles were unmitigated disasters .... and Mason, Hughton, Clive Allen as assistant or interims weren't MUCH better, though hard to tell with Allen, as he never really took charge.

Perryman was always the one I thought would come back as (and be a great) manager, but he only came back as Ossie's assistant, so was hard to tell what impact either of them had!

The way it's played out before, if Davies turns out to be any good as a coach, he'll end up managing Wales one day...
if he's shit, he'll manage us!

We don't GET good ex-Players as good managers!

You forgot to mention Ray Clemence.

Yeah, the reality that skips people is that Ben was pretty much our starting LB for several seasons, in between Danny being made out of glass and generally being an infant

Ah, but gentle Ben is too much of a Gentleman to even ask...
Romero and Vicario would already be spit roasting her before you even got up the stairs to film it!!! :romeroshock::vicarioconfused::richtongue:
The fuck is Richie doing there... Get OUT you animal!!

You forgot to mention Ray Clemence.
Yeah, add him to the list of not so great coaches/managers...
I know Doug Livermore never actually played for us at any point... but will always associate those two with eachother in the dugout..

...in their oversized Umbro Coats!

Actually, you got me there... Totally overlooked him for some reason (maybe I was thinking "alive") and would they STILL be able to come in and do a job... Sadly that rules Venables and Clemence out unfortunately!

I never saw him play, but don't think he was a particularly spectacular player...
I heard an old boy over at the Lane years ago refer to him as Very Terribles when he was a player... Made me laugh, but dunno how accurate that was
.. but boy, what a manager, and even more importantly (in this day and age) a man manager!

Yeah, I'd say he was the best of our ex-Players to come back as managers since Bill Nic.

Came here to say exactly the same thing.

In initial post the "For years he was the one that wasn't ever good enough to start" should be edited to " For years there were idiots for whom only understandable quality was speed that failed to understand Ben value .... " :D

Peak Davies was better player than peak Rose. By some distance. Unfortunately football fans are not the brightest bunch and main attribute they can universally understand is straight-line pace. Which to be fair, Rose had better. But pretty much everything else goes Ben's way. In his best season Ben goals+assists combined is better that Rose's best season. Yes. attacking contribution.

But Benny was not flashy nor super fast runner. So lazy thinking and inability to account for other attributes have taken their toll.

I absolutely love Ben Davies. Role model professional. Intelligent footballer and clearly someone who cares about the club. I am not saying that he should be starting LB at close to 33 of age, but I am saying that if I would buy a shirt with name on the back, from current squad I would put on "Davies 33" !
