Player Ben Davies

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

10 years, excellent pro, good human being, reliable performer. I'll never hear a bad word said about Davies bit it is time for him to move on this summer. Or if he does stay, it's not because we haven't signed a player to perform the roles he has been needed for.

Might not be a spurs legend but for me is a Welsh one, and at least a spurs lad through and through.

Mad respect for Ben 'da brosef' Davies.

Llongyfarchiadau ar 10 mlynedd
I think lcb in a back 3 has always been his best position. I didn't think much of him at left back for Spurs then watched a few Wales games in a back 3 and he was like a completely different player.

And another blurb:
Time has not told on Ben Davies.

When he meets The Athletic in an air-conditioned room away from the scorching heat of the Japanese leg of Tottenham Hotspur’s Asian tour, he looks like the same 21-year-old who arrived from Swansea in 2014.

The hair is the same. His gentle south Welsh lilt has survived a decade in England. Around him, however, everything about Tottenham has changed — most obviously, the manager (four times, not including caretakers) and the stadium.

Davies has been a steady beat, but the 31-year-old has not simply survived at Spurs. He has quietly and continuously reinvented himself, becoming whatever each coach needed him to be.

An orthodox full-back under Mauricio Pochettino. A third centre-back for Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and, often, Wales. Last season, his first under Ange Postecoglou, he did a bit of everything, becoming an ‘inverted’ full-back along the way.

I hope the club treats him right at the end of this season. We need to keep him this year, he is a good depth player and a great leader. Selling him will not bring any funds worth it.

But at the end of the year, when it is time to split, I hope we treat him right like we did Vertoghen. He deserves it.

Free transfer, he can go and a make a few quid somewhere. He’s a model pro, I can see him moving into a coaching role quite easily.

I must have been watching a different match. I thought Radu was essentially playing as the lone CB covering all over for Davies.

Spence saved Davies on one of the most egregious failures to close space I’ve seen in some time.

I still have love for the guy and think he can do a job in an extreme pinch but I didn’t think he had his best match tonight.
