Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Very far from a tap in

But very Ange ball

We’ve scored about 6 of those goals this season. Brennan either assisting or finishing a few of them.

If you can’t see why Ange wanted him, I don’t know how better to explain it to you than that goal.
This is the thing look at how many goals we get when we go wide and to the byline. Porro cross for og v dippers. Think Johnson pulled across from near the byline for Richie. Which makes it puzzling we have everyone crammed in the middle. Even yday so many occasions where cuti or someone in midfield could pass it wide kulu or timo but turn into the middle. Ffs get out wide and get the FBs overlapping to cross the ball! Good enough for dippers and city then should be for us. In fact KDB is not averse to crossing the ball into pen box from anywhere.

If we’ve scored goals from it then we do it. You’re wanting us to do it everytime?

I guess all the top teams want to dominate the middle areas as a foundation because it makes them harder to beat on the counter. Once they get that locked then they can pick the moments to go outside and score from it??

Not all the time but to in game try it. The only time we seem to do it is when in the last few mins we need a goal. What I am saying is we have pacey wide players except kulu and that when we done it with overlapping FBs we have looked generally far more dangerous than keep going through the middle.

I think we do it more than you might think but we could definitely do it more.

The team is still learning the balance of when to risk control of the middle for a chance to go wide.

Heung-Min Son on Brennan Johnson:

Brennan is a fantastic guy and also fantastic player, we have a very close relationship, he’s still young & I want to help him as much as I can because we play almost the same position.

I want to share my experience to him because he can be one of the greatest players I think for his country but also for Spurs.

He’s always asking me questions on what to do and this makes me very proud & happy.

How impressed have you been with Brennan Johnson?

Yeah, again, I’ve always said it’s harder with attacking players because invariably people measure them against just one thing. And Brennan’s a young man and there’s a big transfer fee attached, but we didn’t bring him to the club just for this year. We brought him for the long-term and I know he’s going to grow a lot more.

He’s played more, and certainly started more games, than I thought he would. But again we’ve had real issues with injuries during the early part of the year. But he’s tackled every task really well and he’s got a couple of goals.

People forget he’s been unlucky a couple of times - he’s hit the post here and there. But ultimately he knows that the measure for attacking players at any club, especially at the big ones, is output in that final third. And I’m glad for him he’s been getting those rewards.

Interesting quotes and the remark "..we play almost the same position" underlines that a reason to think long term with Johnson at Spurs is he could same day have to step into Son's role when he eventually leaves.

Another prime example of the English 'scarlet' theory in action.

Winks, Bostock, Alli, Mason, Zeki-Fryers, Bentley.

The list goes on, when will we ever learn?

If his last name was Johansson, he'd never be getting the usual apologetics.
