Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

After GW17 he was in the top 10 for take-ons, duels won, possession won, and assists.

He might not be playing that well on the eye, but on paper he's doing pretty well

Thats all irrelevant. Its about goals and assists. So far he has 6 goal involvements in half a season being a starter

In the right system he is effective, but he has a lot of limitations as a player. He's just not a Spurs player though.

I have no idea what system the current manager wants us to play, but it is clear that he does not want BJ. Selling him is an indication that the board, for now at least, is backing Frank. Selling him is the right call. Backing Frank is not.

The transfer fee we paid for Brennan had a lot to do with Forest needing the money and they were happy to risk the points penalty which they got to get the extra money, Ange wanted him so we paid over the top for him.
Extract from a report regarding Forest and Johnson.

Key facts

  • The club was found to have significantly breached PSR over the accounting period covering the past three seasons (2020/21 – 2022/23).
  • The transfer of Brennan Johnson was the key factor in enabling the club to comply with, or breach, PSR.
  • Atletico Madrid submitted a conditional bid of €50m for Brennan Johnson on the PSR deadline date 30 June 2023.
  • Brentford FC submitted bids for the player of £32,5m, £35m and £40m in July and August 2023.
  • Brennan Johnson moved to Tottenham Hotspur on 1 September 2023 for a fee of £47.5m

Goals win games. Its that simple.

I know and that's my point. Johnson, given a fair chance scores goals. Clearly not seen as enough, which is fine but if we replace him with some fancy dan winger who barely troubles the net, I will just shake my head.

I can only assume we have goals and more as an expectation in any player we are pursuing, because this is a Frank-inspired sale, so the club are backing his judgement, yet another club's manager is obviously in disagreement

Maybe he should play CM, because those numbers are nice, but let's be honest he's very been very underwhelming as an attacking player. Looks like the second coming of Lucas Moura

There were plenty of people moaning about BJ’s one dimensional play and lack of effort last season when he was contributing goals, so it’s hardly surprising we’re selling if he doesn’t fit the way the new manager wants to play.

Rather than moaning about the manager failing to develop him, we should be pleased he’s identified he’s not what we want and move him on whilst there’s still a decent value to him.

What we shouldn’t have done is spunk £50m on him in the first place.
Surely though if he is surpass to requirements for the new manager , it’s not unfair to ask how we are intending to replace his goal contributions for the team?
Getting rid of him is fair enough however To be half way through the season and have OG as our joint second scorer whilst binning off last seasons top Goalscorer just seems bizarre

I’m fucking amazed at this place sometimes. Do other teams forums argue about this too?

What about other sports? I don’t get rugby, but imagine the speedy wee fuckers are scoring the points and the big cunts are doing the defending? Are top quality batsmen in cricket derided because they can’t bowl? All US sports seem to have specialist positions, is it just us that now want every player to do everything?

Johnson is utterly shite at so many things, but seems pretty decent at the old fashioned scoring goals thing.

We’ve lost the point of this sport. I pine for the days you’d se an attacker doing fuck all except scoring. That’s his job.
