Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Call me old fashioned but the scoring thing is quite important 🤷🏻‍♂️

Important to note, as always, that the game is literally about scoring more goals than your opponents. So if you had to pick a football skill to have, scoring goals is probably the best thing you can choose.
Very true. I know we’ve got a shiny new toy on the right now and Kudus is a fine player. Just can’t see him adding, directly or indirectly, the goals and assists Johnson did.

Kudus certainly looks better on the eye as a winger. I’d like to see him threaten the net at some point though.

his goal was exactly what he should be used for, winning 2-0, teams left whole half a pitch to run into, slips him in and he finishes. thats his forte, stick to that and hell actually be a useful squad player.

credit where its due, hes actually a very good finisher in terms of being one on one or ball at his feet in the box.

Also happened to be making the run through the middle. I truly believe he is a striker more than a winger. He's not the hold up type but he can be a devastating finisher/poacher.

he is not a winger for EPL matches, playing Div 3 teams yes he can play the wing
think his real position is as second striker that means playing 2 central strikers, eg 70's style big man little man,

The thing that has frustrated me with Brennan is when we signed him, I thought we were almost getting a Lennon type - a guy with speed that will cause teams issue with that alone.

The reality is we got someone who seems to ALWAYS receive the ball and looks backwards.

Yesterday, albeit against Doncaster Rovers, we saw just how mad that speed is. A couple of runs down the wing and for the goal. Quicker than everyone else even with the ball at his feet.

His finishing is always good and calm - I wonder if maybe rather than getting the ball to feet out wide, he’s a more in behind down the middle type - Vardy didn’t make a bad career out of it.

vardy was also a spiteful mad little bastard who could give as good as he got. Brennan is lightweight and shirks challenges. He would get eaten alive by premier league centre backs.

That is surely more of you a problem though

Anyone who had ever watched him before we bought him would have known we were not getting a player anything like Lennon.

He excels at timing his runs off the shoulder of the last man and finishing 1 vs 1 chances/ changes in the box.

It's a skill not actually that many possess, and I'm pretty glad we have someone in the side who can do it. It gives us options, something people should actually want

Wing forward for me.... he is not someone who will hold the ball up, so pairing with a good striker who knows how to drag defenders with them and create space in behind is essential.

Definitely not a me problem. I wasn’t involved in the recruitment or am I involved in the match day squad in any shape or form. 😂

Saw him play there for Wales and offers even less than he does wide. As someone stated earlier he is a sub to bring on late on and make runs in behind. That’s it. He done ok last night but I think our whole team was ok. The guys that aren’t starters need to be much better than ok against a side like Doncaster.

Brennan when put into a shooting position in the final third 👍🏾

Brennan when asked to do anything outside of this scenario 😱🧟‍♂️

Said it before but he’s really made for the era of 25-30 years ago, when 2 strikers were in vogue. He’d be brilliant running onto a target man’s flick-ons

That is not really fair, coming after yesterdays game.

He put the ball on the plate for Tel 2 times. All Tel had to do in order to score was to make connection with the ball. But he air-kicked it twice...

So for me, yesterday he had a good game also before scoring that goal. So well done Brennan.

3 goals in 4 starts, there will be tighter games when we need someone who gets 1 chance and takes it.
Though regarding that - we still have to remain realistic. In tighter games he does not start.

Because in such game we have two options - either to have players on with whom we create much more chances and defense has easier working day. OR we have on Brennan who, I agree, is very good at finishing. But with him on we create less chances and defense has more work to do. So the question is - do we sacrifice some chances created and less control to have more clinical finisher on the field.

>90% of the time we do not. But there will be games where we can handle controlling the game with him too. Like yesterday. Then he will play and hopefully score :) .

Is there room for just that in today’s game?

In the old 442 days he's a striker. Today he's too lazy to play up there on his own and not strong enough.

What other players are like him in the league? Not many. Any?

Away at Woolwich or Chelsea or away at PSG, I could see Frank doing something like this:

Johnson Solanke Kudus
Xavi

The other 3 in that 4 can do all the things Johnson struggles with but the ability to be clinical with every chance you get will be vital in a game like that.
