Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

You have to wonder who scouted him.

They had to have just looked at a highlight video or his stats. Because there’s absolutely nothing else to see.

Really concerning when we spend big on players that almost the entire supporter base can tell are just out of their depth. Our recruitment from other PL clubs has been a disaster.
Well, most of our supporter base can tell that now..but go back to the start of this thread and its a different story. Everyone thinks we’ve signed the next big thing.

Not just Johnson, you see it with Tel, Odobert, Simons, any kid we sign from anywhere has a bunch of cheerleaders saying how we’ve got a star on our hands. I find it massively tedious because 90% of the time these players will do fuck all. I lost all faith in our recruitment years ago and it’s not coming back anytime soon.

Yeah one good spin or god forbid a good match and it’ll be ‘generational talent on our hands’ and
‘will be world class’.

Said it many times on here, he needs to be at a totally counter attacking team like Nuno’s at Forest last season
- that’s the only type of football that suits him. A winger that has no flair at all, can’t dribble and doesn’t want to beat his full back with the ball at feet. Can’t cross and only has his stock smash it across the box without looking delivery. A product of modern football.

I’m grateful for the goals he’s scored for us, his record is pretty good. He doesn’t suit us at all and it’s painful watching him play in our system a lot of the time. Hopefully Nuno puts in a £30m offer in January:nunothumb:

He never wants to control the ball. Everytime he gets the ball all he does is a first time flick. We lose poccesion. Kudus when he came on fights tooth and nail to hold on to the ball so we at least keep the ball.

Should really only be played when we are set up in a low block and looking to hit on the counter. He doesn’t even look towards goal when he receives the ball in the middle of the park. It’s an atomic back bass which kills momentum. I like the guy, but he’s hurting the team at this point.

Can someone help me out. Trying to remember who scored an overhead goal against us in Anges first season where Johnson pulled out of heading the ball which gave the oppo player the chance to overhead it. Any ideas?

Yes!!

I clearly remember Pele scoring an overhead goal with Ossie on the pitch, Michael Caine running things and Sylvester Stallone in goal.

Hope that helps.

And people say I did too many drugs in the 90s!!

It’s amazing that when they do their player analysis he is not pulled up for those chicken bottle job fake challenges. Surely every manage can see that? Also that when he gets the ball at least hold it, turn and try to make something happen. I’d love to sit in on a session with the coaches with him and see what they say er ‘jonno you skirted out of that one’.

As said before, he's shite in his natural position. Playing him as a striker he would have lass space and will be contantly bullied by defenders given his physical. Considering his hability on the ball he would probably be even more anonymous a striker.
You're correct. Guy you're talking to is a dose. I want to see it tomorrow so that we can finally put this BJ the 9 nonsense to bed, and Richy needs a break.

I'm puzzled by Johnson's positioning! The boy is obviously not a natural winger.
He has pace and can finish. Therefore why we have yet play him through the middle as a "fox-in-the box" type baffles me?

Wasn’t he brought is as an option for the future? And then just ended up playing because we had no-one else? I seem to remember Ange trying to deflect flak from him with something along those lines. If that’s the case, and with two years of abject coaching, perhaps we can cut him a bit of slack? Yes, he’s lightweight, yes, he bottles challenges - but at best, let’s be honest, he’s going to be a Lamela, not a Ronaldo - at worst, he scored/bundled/bummed the goal that won us the Europa.

I dont think spurs spend 50m on an option for the future.
