Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We just can’t seem to have nice things here. Our wingers can either score goals, but do fuck all else. Tricky dribblers with no crossing ability. Can hold the ball up, but can’t score.

Surely there are players out there, that are attainable, that tick more than one box?
Semenyo maybe? Bournemouth are leaking his release clause and our new owners looking to make a splash - looks like a potential go-er in Jan.

Could see end up him here if Pool decide to pass or can't afford him.

65M paid upfront in the first ten days of the window?

Now the bastard above has been sacked, what I really want is average players moved on quickly and decisively, and upgraded. Richy, Johnson, Bentacur, Vicario etc, just shit really - churn them out for fair fees

Unfortunately I'd suggest that wingers who can reliably beat a man, have pace, have a good delivery and score regularly are the absolute elite and gold standard putting them in the top price tier. Not many in the top leagues worldwide would tick all those boxes at the highest level.

I’d play 532 to be honest and not need wingers. Almost all are “luxury” players who have gaping holes in their skill set. There’s wide forwards like Salah that tick every box, but he’s one in a hundred.

Yeah I get what you mean. In a way I think a team who is ready to commit to a solid 352 setup could be very strong in the modern game with packed defences and tight midfield battles as it's a very compact formation which allows for crossing from deep positions into two centre forwards. It doesn't seem to be popular at the minute but the game is always evolving and I think there's for sure a gap in the market so to speak for a team that can do it well. You would just have to have a squad very well suited to the formation to pull it off (which actually we are not too far from with our current squad! A striker and a crossing LB would see us very well suited)

Our squad seems closer to 532 than it does for the 4321 we are doing now. But yes, with the addition of a LWB, a player we need anyway, no matter what formation we play.

I think 95% of the posters in here agree that BJ has serious flaws but can also do good things on occasion. In my opinion, the good things don’t happen often enough and it translates into him being a below average player, but a player that is still useful to the current squad.

This thread has basically one or two trolls on each side that intentionally wind up other posters instead of actually discussing the player.

You have to be an idiot to say that the goal the other day was not a good goal. You also have to be an idiot to say “assists. It’s what he does.”, when he has 0 assists this season and is in the 19th percentile over the last year for his position. Yet both of these were said.

Unfortunately, the idiots speak the loudest in here.
Better to say that the idiots type the hardest than shout the loudest.

This prejudice surrounding the back 5 belongs to a time where a fullback meant nothing more than a wide defender, someone who virtually never pushed forward in possession. So the reason a back 5 was considered more defensive than a back 4 is that in the former there was an additional defender staying back at all times. That's it.

It's hardly relevant to today's experience where fullbacks are full-blown attackers in possession. All formations these days turn into a back 3 in possession anyway, either via a holding midfielder dropping in between CBs or one of the fullbacks tucking in. We've already taken both routes in different games this season.

£65m is just a thrown around number these days. Seems to be standard for a good prem player though. Just want to see him doing well for longer before I’d cough up.

Doubt we’d get the Richie thing done. Exchanges never really happen. And why would they want him?

You can but hope but I hope he goes in January

It's very difficult to play attractive football with 5 3 2. You only play with three attacking players. That was the problem with Conte.
And Mourinho who only played with 3.
City play with 5 , Woolwich 4. Having Spence and even Porro as our wide attacking threat will make it very difficult.
It can work for specific matches - but it's not what we should be going back to

If a manager wanted to we could be a creative team quite easily.
Especially when Kulu and hopefully Maddison come back.

Leverkusen played with 5 and were one of the best teams in Europe.

Conte made it work in the Premier League as well.

There are exceptions, quoted above. But yes, a traditional 5 at the back isn’t ideal for flowing football, but our football is hardly attractive just now.

Everyone took the piss out of Amorim for continuing with his system last season without the players to play it. But we are watching the same thing happen here with hardly a murmur.

Our “best” winger is Kudus, who thinks he’s a 10, wants to be a 10 and played most of his career as a 10. BJ isn’t a winger. Tel? Fuck knows. Odobert? Hardly proven.

We don’t have a squad that can play 4231, so we should stop doing it. Maybe after a couple of windows, we would have, so can revert then. Meantime, go with what we have.
