Ex-Spurs Player Brennan Johnson

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

There were plenty of people moaning about BJ’s one dimensional play and lack of effort last season when he was contributing goals, so it’s hardly surprising we’re selling if he doesn’t fit the way the new manager wants to play.

Rather than moaning about the manager failing to develop him, we should be pleased he’s identified he’s not what we want and move him on whilst there’s still a decent value to him.

What we shouldn’t have done is spunk £50m on him in the first place.

Only taking a £12m loss on a 24yr old with proven assist and scoring ability is almost good for us.

As a forward, Johnson has a better goals per PL match record than other wide players like Garnacho, Neto, Grealish, Doku and Madueke, quite a good transfer price compared to those players if you want a proven PL goalscorer.

Immediately seeing the benefits of Levy going. Taking a loss on a deadwood player to still get maximum value out of him instead of letting the squad rot in the hope that he miraculously comes good.

I still hate ENIC, but getting rid of Levy’s rotted, centralised mess will improve us dramatically.

Whilst it’s been a challenge for me to watch us play this season, what hasn’t been a challenge is keeping up with all the goals we’ve not been scoring.

Whilst it looks like good business to sell Johnson, as he’s not getting a game, any semi competent manager would look at our top scorer from last season, see us in the bottom half of the table and maybe try to improve on what the player offers.

Show me another club that’s this fucked up. And show me another set of supporters that sell their top scorer for 35m and celebrate.

Limited he may be. The winger we appear to want he is not. But the manager should have done better with him.
We were lower down the league with him starting every game last season

How proven is he? Can't be arsed digging up the stats but 1 season of high scoring under a system designed for his back post tap ins doesn't necessarily mean he will continue to score at the same rate in a different setup.

With Forest played 41 PL matches scored 8 times with Spurs played 81 PL matches scored 18 , different clubs different sytems but almost identical consistency of scoring goals, a fraction better with Spurs but who has the better squad Spurs or Forest ?

1. Another player bought for top-dollar and sold for much less.
2. Johnson is bound to be great at Palace.
3. Johnson will score the first time he plays against Spurs.

Its not black and white though. Johnson is not a great player, no doubt. But he has great numbers. Compare to Kudus, who looks mustard but produces very little.

Johnson scores 1 in 3 last year in the premier league. Not many strikers can do that let alone wingers. Finished the season with almost 20 goals. That's almost elite numbers and he is still young.

Some players just have a knack for being in the right place and being able to finish. Alli was the same. Largely insignificant sometimes, but pops up with goals and assists.

Only tine will tell.

Do we say Frank can just sell any player he can't develop and be okay with it?
