I´ve said for almost two years now we need three new defenders. Romero and Porro are probably world class going forward and in possession. Udogie would probably be really good at wingback. But all three of them are absolutely fucking awful defending, and when put under pressure! Either that, or our system are totally failing these players?!
I would be extremely surprised if we get top4 with this defense/system. and I would be slightly surprised if we get top6.
The first two games this season showed what we were in for this season sadly!
And Ange can´t keep playing Udogie now, he's been awful all season, and his confidence are probably shot to pieces, he's costing us points time and time again. The only thing is, I don´t see Spence as a solution there either. He is as bad defensively as the others.
I would probably go for a back4 with Porro - Romero - Dragusin - VdV from now on.
Wingers are NOT our biggest problem.

That second half takes some beating, in control at the break, but decide to stop doing anything second half.
This is why this club will never be successful, just hasn't got the stomach for it.

Spence for Porro????? Spence for Udogie. Porto gives everything for the jersey every game whereas Udogie plays at 60%
By a man 27 years his junior and who's never coached in an elite division prior to this season (unless I'm mistaken)
I already mentioned in a post on how we always struggle against big and pacy forwards. Add a tricky Mitoma and Minteh we were not winning those 2nd balls. The defensive shape is not coping with these energetic presses as our FBs are programmed to attack more than defend. We need more than 100% concentration from all defenders to withstand the pressure and see how the lapses from Udogie and Romero leaked us goals today. Understandably defenders will fold with such relentless pressure, but I really expected more from fucking Romero. Fucking captain but he could never escaped being culpable for our goals conceded.
This will be a big weakness of us if we don't address this ASAP. Newcastle and Brighton showed the blueprint to play against us.
We won't die by playing a back 3 some times ffs Ange. If Dragusin was subbed in early after we conceded the first goal for Udogie, we can still play the usual system with VdV playing like Udogie as the inverting FB. Another hiccup hopefully for Ange to learn.

We are fucking mid. And we actually have some really good players these days, we just play like fucking morons. Never feel in control of matches with any consistency.
It's particularly bad because who do you trust as a manager after that capitulation and lack of response? All the players I trusted were the ones who didn't deliver.
