So why was Rennes so good for Spence and he could not be loaned to an English club. They had all month to find him a club as he was not playing and Porro replaced Doherty and not him. If Spence had not gone abroad then the loan to Madrid would have been ok. If Doherty is good enough for such a good team as Atletico then he is still worth something.

Pat Jennings didn't leave Spurs for Woolwich on a free transfer.
I know.

He was out of contract though.

In those days the clubs still owned your arse regardless of your contract situation.

Spurs took 40k from N5 for Jennings and implied he was greedy.

He didn't want to go.

Almost all of the posts on these threads don’t take into consideration that players are people with their own preferences.
It’s the same if we talk about Skriniar’s transfer or Gil’s loan — my guess in that case is that the player strongly preferred Seville as opposed to Everton or Southampton.

Maybe Spence had a strong preference to join Rennes based on conversations with their management which may have guaranteed playing time and/or formation.

Edited to add; Fab Romano’s tweet indicated it was indeed Spence who made the call.

I think they are petrified of the teams around us and especially below us that could be interested in any of our cast offs being good for them and thus potentially affecting our chances of qualification for European football.

I think the point is that the club forgot about FIFA loan rules leading to a quick termination. It was a fuck up and will mean a few million lost in capital. Doherty could have been sold for at least £2m. You're right the expenditure is reduced because of wages but it is negligible in this case. Overall loss.
However, I think we have to take a hit on other players out on loan.
We could have been loaning to Atletico and paying some of his wages, this could have been the best deal we could do. We could have expected the same in the summer. Doherty may have agreed to a mutual termination because he fancied Atletico. That option may not have been on the table in the summer meaning another subsidised loan.

Lots of maybes and mights there but the point is we are all guessing how it went down.

Atletico are shit at the moment and very poor, no cash at all.

…peers when ENIC took over 20 years ago. You didn’t get that?

Got it.

We're too big now to worry about the pittance lost on cancelling Doherty's contract like how other big clubs act. But we're not big enough to compare ourselves against the spend and investment of the big clubs now because we've only recently grown to the size we are, so we need to compare ourselves against team positions from 20 years ago.

Sounds awful convenient.

Generating a healthy, regular flow of outgoing sales is an important part of being a top club now.

Levy's investment in the academy had an eye toward that goal, and there has been some success there, but getting healthy wedges of money for first team players will need to be part of it too.

Our ability to make deals just isn't robust enough, and can't and won't be with Daniel Levy at the helm, period, full stop, end of.

It doesn't even matter if he is touched by an angel and has a sincere change of heart in his behavior, his reputation is such that every club in Europe relishes fucking with us on every possible opportunity.

Of course we care. You know we are tight. In the past that has meant we’ve held on too long and not been dynamic clearing out the old. It is a pragmatic decision which saves money and aids development of the squad.

When City became wealthy did they hit the hights right away? Or did they have to sign and let go of players often losing money? Now we’re not in the same money league but the premise is the same. We are now in a position to sign Porro. Sack off Doherty, and push forward.

They are 4th in La Liga, a Champions League place. Since the resumption after the World Cup, they have played 5 LL matches, winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 1 to top of the table Barcelona. Hardly shit and very poor?

Where is he?

Buying you and the other regime enthusiasts a few Beavertowns?

Make sure nobody has dipped their cock in your glass while nobody was looking.

Hahha... You are so funny... You really think you have all this shit wrapped up nice a tightly with your imagination, conspiracy theories and pre-conceptions about other people don't you.

Anyone that doesn't think like you is just some middle-classed-Charlie aren't they?

......What ignorant bollocks.
