Competition Carabao Cup

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Spurs fixtures :

Thursday 12 December @ 20.00 - EL - Rangers v Spurs (first game after International break)
Sunday 15 December @ 19.00 - PL - Southampton v Spurs
?????/ w/c 16 December - Carabou - Spurs v Man U
Sunday 22 December @ 16.30 - PL - Spurs v Liverpool

Seeing as Man U will also be playing a Europa schedule; doesn't this all balance out anyway?

+ Southampton will also have a cup tie to prepare for when we play them; much like Liverpool will have just played one by the time we face them.

Man City played Watford earlier in the competition on a Tuesday night, which was only 48 hours after their game against Woolwich on the Sunday afternoon. So whilst there is a precedent for a 48 hour turnaround to happen, would find it unlikely bearing in mind it's now the QFs.

Looking at the fixtures the way they are it could be that its decided Woolwich v Palace will be Wednesday night and us v United on the Thursday. We play Liverpool on Sunday so that's fine but would mean shifting Man United v Bournemouth (currently Saturday 21st, non tv game) to the Sunday 22nd.

I just cannot see the authorities allowing us and Woolwich playing at home on the same night, wont happen.

Wow, I didn't even think about Woolwich being at home too, though in my defence I try not to think about them at all.

I don't believe that UEFA would even consider moving one of their precious games for the English third tier competition, which most UEFA-affiliated clubs don't even have, so that's probably out.

I also thought that the PL don't move games for the Carabao, especially ones that have already been moved for TV, although I suppose they may if they come under enough pressure.

So it looks like one team will be shafted - and I think we all know which one it will be...

As far as Man City playing on the Tuesday in the third round, I seem to remember that they actually offered to do so, knowing that they would play their reserves, and at the time I thought that was a stupid precedent to set.

If we are forced to play on Sunday/Tuesday or Thursday/Saturday I think that the club should put out a statement that we will either put out a squad consisting only of players that will not be involved in the Sunday game or withdraw from the competition on the grounds of player welfare.

The only other option I can think of is that they may consider switching one of the games to become an away fixture for the "home" team. Palace v Woolwich would probably not be allowed on the same grounds as both teams being at home (and that wouldn't happen anyway when there's the option to shaft us), so Man U v Spurs at 20:15 on the Wednesday it is.

They should all agree that we beat them away in the league and our away form is shit, so we're definitely going to beat them at home.

Just call it a 7-1 win for us and we can all be Palace fans for the night.

That’s the easiest and most sensible solution

So definitely won’t happen

Our luck with domestic cup draws is terrible - fuck me Woolwich get Preston then a home game against Palace. Liverpool did well to win at a tough ground last night so I can’t begrudge them Southampton away - very jealous though.

Barcodes getting Brentford - if we get through we absolutely need to be drawn against the winner of that one. We won’t though, that will be Woolwich, we will have to play the Scousers.

I wish they would wait a day for the draw - give teams the chance to celebrate before finding out they’ve got another tough assignment
Woolwich ALWAYS get's the easiest draw possible.

And we ALWAYS get's the toughest draw possible.

And it has NOTHING to do with luck or bad luck!!

Just wanted a home draw as our home and away from is like chalk and cheese. Fancy us strongly to beat united at home and don't think it's the worst draw
I fancy us at home to United as well, but felt we needed Woolwich and Liverpool to have tougher assignments.

We just don’t win at SJP anymore and go back as far as you want and our record at Anfield and the library is atrocious - meaning any semi would need us playing at home in the second leg.

The Woolwich game annoys me, I fancy Palace at Selhurst park against their second string, but at the library I think Woolwich will get through. Southampton are just schitt, Slots B team will win that comfortably and then we will have to play their well rested A team on the Sunday having gone full strength against United.

Even the Brentford Newcastle game is annoying as I would have fancied Brentford at their gaffe, but they will fall apart at SJP.

I don’t understand how Woolwich were able to win cups where they got to play the likes of Hull, Wigan and a relegated Aston Villa in cup finals and semi finals, yet we consistently butt up against elite sides. Even league cup finals Woolwich have lost they got to play Swindon, Luton and Birmingham - our last 3 have been title winning Man City, title winning Chelsea and title winning Man United.

These cup draws never open up for us

There is no international break in December. We play Chelsea on Sunday 8th before the Rangers match.

Thanks, Its still a option (at least in theory) to play the Rangers game on Wednesday rather than Thursday (subject of course to Rangers, uefa and tv companies agreement) so as to allow us to play yhe next game on Saturday rather than Sunday etc.

Good luck to the guys that need to sort out the fixture scheduling -they'll need it !

Forget the idea of UEFA shifting games for our third level competition. Not going to happen. It’s up to the PL and EFL to sort out.

Apart from that time we fucked it against Portsmouth when we all had our hotels booked for the final.
That was a tough one to take.
