Yet some will tell you a half decent gaffer would've that squad in the top 6 and winning the EL.

Also that all we need this summer, aside from a new manager, is 2 or 3 good players and we'll be cooking.

No they aren't.
They are shit, and certainly losing away to a side in the top 4 is par for course.

The players we have are far better than what we're seeing. They should walk the top half of the league and be in the top 6. Any manager with a clue about training and tactics would see that happen.
We are far better than what is being served up.
This is why Ange has no excuse to be down there with the worst managers we've had in half a century. They all had far worse teams at their disposal.

Fair enough; who was?
Well first, they're all guilty, the lot of them. In the vast majority of cases, whenever you concede a goal, it's cause the whole unit fucked up, albeit to varying degrees. That Chelsea goal is just comical when you look at what happened.

The forwards didn't press (hard enough), allowing Chelsea to eventually get that ball to Palmer. As for tracking back, Sonny is nowhere near Neto, clearly leaving Udogie in the shit...disgraceful from the captain.

Our midfielders were a joke, all out of position to begin with, and none of them bust a gut to close Palmer down. They also let a direct opponent have a free run into our box. Where's the leadership from Bentancur?

Djed didn't even attempt to get tight to Palmer or disrupt the cross...he actually turned his back like a right pussy.

Romero & Cuti didn't communicate as a CB pairing should, especially at that level. Cuti covers the near post, that's all well and good...but Jackson shouldn't be behind him, forcing Micky to take those fateful steps. Still, Micky gotta be able to judge the flight of the ball and keep himself in a position where he can head it clear...that's literally his role on such crosses.

I don't think Vic can come claim that, but did he even spot the fuckup between his CB and shouted at them? There was plenty time, the ball hadn't even left Palmer's foot they were already in a mess.

Udogie was sold short by his teammates, yes...but Enzo is still his man. How can you get beat by a man half your size? I'd be embarrassed. Do your friggin job. Be there, be proactive, put your body on the line...but we've seen time & time again how he just doesn't care about defending or fighting for the team. He literally just wants to have the ball in attacking areas where he can cross or shoot...the shiny stuff basically.

Utterly embarrassing all round, even more so cause we've conceded that same goal a thousand times. We're talking about a PL team not mastering basic stuff, the bread & butter of defending. Just shows we are not coached and that we have zero friggin footy IQ or bollocks, we're just a team of braindead sissies.

We aren't better than Liverpool, Woolwich, City, Chelsea, Newcastle or Villa at least, so we shouldn't be top 6.

8th - 12th is roughly our position in terms of quality I would say.

Well we've beaten City twice this season. And Villa handsomely.
The players we have are capable of much more than we're seeing. This is a coaching issue. Coaches get at least the minimum out of their players, if not they get them playing above themselves.
This fraud has everyone of them playing beneath themselves.

Are you being facetious?
We are not better than Villa or City. Also Leicester and Ipswich are not better than us.

The players are capable of a bit more yeah, but they are just not that good anyway.
Our attackers are probably the worst collectively I have ever known from a Spurs squad.

They are capable of far more. Far, far more.
The real problem is the coach. We're not gonna win a league. No.
But our squad is more than capable of challenging fucking Forest, Villa and Newcastle and a City team that has fallen off a cliff this season. Man for man there's barely anything in it. Forests top scorer is a 32 year old Kiwi ffs.

You can't possibly believe we are where we belong? Because if you do believe that, then by default you believe Ange isn't a poor/dreadful PL level manager.

I’d agree with a lot of that, but Van de Ven loses (or lets go) Chelsea’s 8 (I’m rewatching the video a lot) in the 2 seconds to the cross 1:01-1:03) who bends a run in behind him, giving Udogie more to mark. Should Van de Ven have just passed him onto Udogie without knowing Udogie’s situation? We are heavily outnumbered on the back post/far side.

He then, as you say, chases Romero’s player, leaving a massive hole. As an international centre half, all 6 foot 4 of him (our tallest player) you are correct he should judge the flight of the ball better. This was exploited. 2 centre halves in one spot, effectively reduced to 1.

In any event, the attention you have put into the move as a whole is, sadly probably more than our current manager puts into such defending. I’m not looking for an argument, I’m just very disappointed in another identikit goal against us.

We are being let down by Levy and Postecoglou (and his staff) and short may they remain at Tottenham.

Thanks for the detailed post. I’ll consider it at my (repenting at) leisure and try to analyse further.

I have said I think we should be in the 8th-12th ish area and we are below that. I absolutely think we would take most of City and Newcastle's players to be nailed on starters for us.

Son and Solanke have scored 7 each with Richarlison on 2. I don't care if he's 32 or his nationality - Wood has scored more than all 3 COMBINED.

I'm not sure Forest, Villa, Newcastle or City would have any of our forwards walk into their starting 11s. You seem to think our players are better than they really are.

So, the VAR incident with Sarr, that meant he ended up with a Yellow.

I reckon if he doesn't score that goal, there is no VAR to check the goal validity and the game would have played on, that is how stupid the whole situation is. Are we going to VAR every potential Yellow'ish incident now ?

I was against var from the start. There is no solution to this mess they created.

This is a good example if he doesnt score he wont get a caution. Also without var we could have watched a more entertaining game. 2 cracking goals called off. Instead we get 5 minute breaks in which we can all close our eyes and remember proper football matches from ca 15 years ago...

We're just not a serious club, from top to bottom.

Only the fans - well, most of them - are blameless.

Both Newcastle and Villa have better teams and better squads than we do. I mean just look at the business Villa did in January, signing Rashford and Asensio who have been superb, especially the latter. It means they have players on the bench that would walk in our starting 11, the likes of Watkins, Malen and Bailey.

Bad as Ange is, some people also need to get real at last and realise just how ordinary many of our players are.

Yes, Villa had a blinding window, while our only attacking reinforcement was an exchange student from Bayern.

To be fair, Rashford was a gamble, but that's paid off.

Agreed. I hated the first VAR as well. Switched the game off and didn’t bother turning it back on after the goal was ruled out.

Now imagine season 1, if VAR didn’t go back and send Romero off? VDV wouldn’t have been standing around for 8 minutes and maybe his hammy doesn’t pop.

It’s not even football we are watching anymore, its an episode of Eastenders.

Even if he didn't work out the way it has for them he's still an excellent option to have on the bench for just about any side. It's clear that things had gone toxic for him at United and he needed out of their.

Ultimately we're not as good as some seem to think we are, regardless of who is in charge.
