I don't agree with that. Modric never got all of the praise that he deserved because he didn't score or assist much. Eriksen gets a ton because he does do that. They're different types of players and both very good. But it would be hard to find a midfielder better than Modric at doing his job in the world. Eriksen still has a ways to go.

I agree with that. Some players are untouchable.
Got some class players in Eriksen, Lloris, Kane, Verts who are top draw and would look good in many of the worlds best sides. But we have to show more ambition, why will Eriksen stay with us if Levy spends all day being cheap, you can see how it makes us look like a selling team and not a team destined for the top.
Modric controlled the tempo of the game, he's one of Real Madrid's best players easily, we do not have anyone like that in the side unfortuantly. He is like Cabaye and Schniederlin combined together, rare player. Struggling to think of a Prem midfielder as good right now.

Alll our best players that have left have wanted too, and have put pressure to do so.
Player/agent power goes a long way these days. Hell, players can get a manager moved on if they aren't happy.
I know people can reply and say "well Southampton kept schneiderlin" but he's not the same level of player that we have had to part ways with and wanted to keep.
Sometimes I feel that Levy's remoteness and limited announcements can really do him a diservice as we are just left guessing, often to a negative opinion of him and his motives.

Some fair points in there. Woolwich couldn't keep Fabregas (& couldn't even re sign him- rofl). United couldn't keep Ronaldo. The bin dippers couldn't keep the vampire. It just seems to happen to us more often than anyone else & almost always on deadline day. I think that's a big source of dissatisfaction. Particularly when we end up with the Louis Saha's & Ryan Nelsen's of the world. Or the Fraser Campbell's.

Dude, I appreciate your sentiments, but it's not a campaign against Joe. There's no agenda here at least on my part.
He's a cool contributor to the forum and most likely wears his heart on his sleeve and gets a wee bit too passionate at times.
I like a lot of Joe's posts and I genuinely feel bad that I was possibly the final vote that got him binned.
Perhaps I should have kept quiet about the vote.
I hope Joe accepts my apology and just eases down a bit on the personal attacks to some folks.
That's his issue, I have always felt that Levy is a very poor communicator you never really know what's going on other than Sherwood or AVB taking pots shots at his reign. The Moutinho deal partly fell through because we haggled over price rather than just accepted it. We could have picked up Bony or Remy for a reasonable price when we were fully aware we needed a proper forward, Burnley have slapped 10 mil on Ings who is easily worth that but apparently we offer 5 mil if rumours are to be believed.
My point is this, if you are a player and you see a lot of average players and key weaknesses in your squad and those issues have over quite a period not been adequately addressed is it any wonder that Bale, Modric, Berbatov and so on want to go up a level. I know Baldini fucked up with the Bale money but that doesn't mean Levy should never take a risk or not show ambition because he got burnt once. We massively lack a striker, maybe a top class midfielder and we have a good few players in need of shipping out pronto, we have had a good season with injuries but we could easily fall flat on our faces. If we show the ambition to go for top players and take risk like we have done historically then maybe, just maybe players like Eriksen won't have to leave one day to achieve their dreams.
Deffo agree on the communication bit. But to be fair it's a fine line.... too much info and we have another conundrum lol.
And yeah, class players want to see ambition from the squad/team. And I guess we have been at fault there, but we also can't just go out and but anyone we like especially with the stadium shenanigans going on..... and what sort of player would have been good enough to convince Bale we had ambition?
Could we have afforded that type of player?
Not so sure and there aren't any guarentees he'd have stayed anyway.
Right now I'm just loving the youth and enthusiam from a lot of our squad. Look at Man Utd with Falcao.... money well spent? I'd prefer we take more gambles on more youth and bring em up and then if they move on... it'll be sad but be will have a nice escalator of chaps coming up through the ranks.
