It will be interesting to see if Lankshear is kept with the club this year as he will qualify as club trained for UEFA competitions if he does.
Similarly, Bergvall and Gray can both become club trained if they stay with us every season until they are 21.
Question marks over Ash Phillips being club trained due to age (and him beng loaned out last season). Also, I think that Pape-Mate Sarr could have qualified as club trained if we had not loaned him out, and instead will now be a NHG player.
With Devine, Donley, Dorrington, Hall, Moore, Scarlett etc. all counting as U21 in league and B-List in UEFA for now, but will be club trained should they stay with us long term, the squad limitations are not really a problem any more.
The squad 'club trained' footballer rule is likely to ease a little this coming season 24/25 if Ange feels that a couple of youngsters are good enough and will play enough minutes (say play significant minutes in say 20 or 30 out of 60 potential matches so as to rest other players) - much less than this and whilst its good for player development it doesn't really rest the more experienced players.
In 24/25 whilst I'd love Mickey Moore to play a lot, its more likely that he's eased into the squad and it maybe the 2nd half of the season before he plays much - and indeed its vital not to overplay him when young as otherwise his career will be shorter than it should be (Michael Owen the classic example - star at aged 18, declining from age 25). Same will be the of the likes of Hall, and both are likely to alternate between training and playing u21 and first team football..
So the question will become whether Ange can offer some of the slightly older youngsters - Devine, Donley, Lankshear, Scarlett enough first team minutes in at least one half of the season 24/25 to make a difference or at least enough development minutes such that its a better career decision than a loan where playing time should be more plentiful.
Moving into 25/26 (season after the coming one) I'd like to think several of our youngsters can become real contributors to the squad and reduce minutes played of more established stars. And indeed there may be further candidates coming through including Abbott and Black.
I think Sarr joined Spurs on 27 August 2021, after the season started, and thus slightly too late to allow him to meet UEFA's Club trained rules.
Bergvall and Gray may become Club trained in due course - their first hurdle is to become a List B player (2 years at Spurs) as before then they will need to be registered as members of the squad like the more experienced players at Spurs.
But its a sea change from where we were under Conte to now in terms of the prospects for Club Trained footballers - from no chance of anyone to the question is how many can we get over the next couple of seasons.
The future is bright, and its lilywhite !
