Good on the UK government, it's never ever been a secret that Abramovich is neck deep in shady business with Putin. Shocking it's taken this long to address.

I hope this is a wake up call to the Premier League on who they allow to own teams, there's really no reason shady characters and sovereign governments should be allowed to own teams, there's plenty of rich people out there as evidenced by the interest in buying Chelsea. Though unfortunately the Saudi sale has already gone through.

And the blind eye to the horrible shit that the Saudi government did when they invaded Yemen. Got to go after Newcastle as well
Hmmm. I have a feeling that very close friends of members of our Government (and our Government itself) make a lot of money from selling lots of lovely guns and bombs and stuff to the Saudis. So it's a bit complicated.

It’s a cunt thing go tap up brands for cancel culture but for the chavs, I think we should make an exception to the rule. Nike, Trivago next please. Starve them of their revenue streams.

I dunno. Unless there's some way of paying it to the people he stole it from it's not going anywhere. Chelsea can't afford it and nobody is going to cover it.

I know that's your original point, but I don't think it's as simple as them owing the funds.
As you suggest, it will get horribly messy.

I will not pretend to understand the complex depths of insolvency law and debt restructuring, especially when you throw in sanctions.

I'm not sure if his debts will be passed to an administrator who will recover monies owed on behalf of the Government?

Not to defend Roman or anything, but it does seem out of balance given the blind eye they've turned to the City owners who are directly guilty of a lot more than being associated and financially entangled with Putin. Roman/Chelea deserve this, but so do City. And if you're not going address the evil cunts in Manchester, it seems virtue signally to go in so hard at Chelsea.

Still worth celebrating, and their fans are pretty much despicable cunts down to the man, so no sorrow.
They are not doing it because its "bad money" but we are in effect in a war with Russia and he is a supporter of the other side. I wish we were more moral in ownership but we are not.

Wasn't there some dispute between John Terry and Chelsea over his stupid monkey pictures using Chelsea kits in them? Maybe Chelsea own those pictures due to imaging rights.
Please please please take his stupid monkey pictures off him
:contepray:
John Terry’s Ape kids NFT shares have plummeted 90% in last couple of days..

Either way it should be gloriously protracted and messy!

I think its more symptomatic of the fact that we, in the west, want to make a show of being tough with Russia over the invasion but we don't actually want to go to war over this and in the end Ukraine is going to be absorbed by Russia and we just don't want to look like pricks that didn't care about it happening. But when the rubber meets the road, we just don't actually care to the point that we're moved to action.

I'm in 2 minds about the whole thing, mind you. But I feel this is more a product of making a show rather than actual attempt to effect change.

From CaitlinCFC on The Shed End:

"This seems to just be political racism against Roman and the chance to create a big story. Stealing a football club will not make any difference to those getting attacked in Ukraine, neither is there any link. Why not do something that actually makes a difference."
Political racism lol, guess racists have a lot of terms and distinctions for racism like the Inuit (not eskimos no no no) have many words for snow

You are right and wrong imo.

We don't want to go to war but this soft pressure (sanctions /companies not selling etc) appears effective.

I hope that you're right, but I really fear that it won't be. I think Putin's bet, that the hard times will rally the Russian people behind the flag against the old foe, is likely a good one. And they'll stay the course and that will be that. Ukraine will cease to exist and our governments will just try to forget it happened and big up the yachts they seized as if it had any effect.

Neither here nor there, at the moment, as its celebration day for now.
